    Good work. It's also an opportunity to change the indicator bulbs for LEDs and to repaint the faded needles.

      Thank you S, im learning from the BEST!
      Great point on upgrading those "not easy to see" bulb indicators for LED

    Recommend those with air bag in steering wheel, disconnect battery FIRST.

    Just knocked this repair out on my 86' 560sl, your video gave me the confidence to do it myself and save $480 by not sending it off for a refurb - thanks!

      @MinkMood I have 560sl too with the same issue. Question for you guys, is it normal for the odometer numbers to be a little misaligned? It has 68000 miles and the 8 is a little higher than the 6. Just bought the car so wondering if it's been rolled back

      @@atlskyline1 With our cars being as old as they are, it’s hard to truly verify mileage without service records and consistent documentation over the lifespan. I couldn’t definitely tell you one way or the other based on what you’re saying. It doesn’t matter if you have a 20k car or a 200k car, those plastic gears all disintegrate with time.

    • @MinkMood
      @MinkMood  6 місяців тому

      @atlskyline1 it’s sounds normal tbh. As a matter of fact if was roll back or rolled FW the way it lands those numbers it wouldn’t chance from normal operation. If you are in the states a carfax will kinda tell millage through time.

    Job well done. I'd take this opportunity to add a ground wire to the cluster, just because when the ground goes, the cluster turns into the devil...

    Hi, I removed both of the small screws that secure the top of the plastic cage. But when I tried to lift it up, it seems to be caught on the small black resistor with the 3 wires on the circuit board behind it. So I stopped. Is there a trick to picking it up without pulling that resistor up with it. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

    • @berlant1
      @berlant1 3 місяці тому

      Ignore my last question. I managed to remove the cover by wiggling it while using a pair of tweezers to hold the resistor.

    How did I miss this video! I'm about to do the same on my channel. My temp and gas gauge keep flickering. I tried grounding a couple of screws but it didn't fix it. Any ideas? Once I figure it out, I'll post a video.

    • @MinkMood
      @MinkMood  Рік тому +1

      Sounds great! In my case I didn’t add extra ground but while taking the gauges out you will have access to the full circuit. Another idea that came out was painting the needles. Lots of things to keep making our classics better 👍❤️

    Having trouble with the trip reset on mine. Any advice? I've only ever worked on this one, and so I'm not sure how it should operate mechanically outside of the cluster...

    • @MinkMood
      @MinkMood  2 роки тому +1

      Not sure about it either. From what I remember the cluster will need to come out but you will have to see what’s behind the reset push link. The odometer gears work independently from the reset system. Lmk what you discover!

      @@MinkMood I did all that, in fact I had it out when I made that comment. That comment. For some reason I just can't mechanically get that to work, but I have bigger fish to fry on this car!

    Wondering if anyone can help me. I did the sprocket swap, it all turns nicely by hand (or as nice as plastic sprockets do) but the mileage still doesn’t work. Any ideas would be awesome. Thanks

    • @MinkMood
      @MinkMood  6 місяців тому

      Can you try testing the electric motor? If gears is not the issue, then it should be rather the electric motor or not getting the signal from the circuit

      @@MinkMood I was thinking that I just don’t know how I can test that, do you have any ideas? Thanks for the reply 👍🏻

      @@MinkMood ok so found the issue. Everything was working fine just the gears I bought to change it over from
      Miles to KM were not running smooth enough. I took a very small file and made it run easier and now it works perfect.
