I serviced several manufacturers and this is my preferred stove. The problems you described are more operator error and bad pellets than anything. Everything you described you could have corrected with the right advice.
We've gotten to where we really, really like the thing. You're correct on all counts. We did have an incredibly weird problem with the thing as a consequence of bad pellets. I just got it running again after a long time....long story. An enormous klinker warped the firebox, burned out the igniter and fused it to the housing, etc. Then, I had a stroke and we couldn't find a repairman. I finally got it all back together - it's humming along as I write, here. It's good to get input from someone as knowledgeable as yourself - thanks.
I've had the same problem with smoke from time to time. I found that if I open the lid when I shut it down, it works better on restart. The unit will dispense pellets after shut down if the lid is not open, then will dispense pellets again on restart. This can over fill the burn pot and it will smolder when it trys to light. Not the best fix but it's worked for me.
I've been running mine for a few years and other than a solid cleaning every so often and swapping the fire pot after two years of burn it works beautifully with little ash.
I know this video is old but i have this stove for about 7 years , i was a rookie with this stove and had the same problems, but i use better pellets, all oak stay away from mixed hard woods pellets, i use greenway pellets . they are the best and less ash, you want to round a out side cold draft if you can, but the main thing i did was take it off the auto mode and run you draft one higher the the pellet setting. So if you have your heat range on 2, run your draft on 3, hasn't missed a beat since, but after 7 years i am replacing the ignitor for the first time
Man - ours has been down for two years due to a - of all things - a massive klinker....long story. Plus, I had a stroke and we couldn't find anyone to fix it. I finally got the thing put back together. Interesting stuff about the draft and all. Thanks for the idea. Ours if finally hummin' along again. Gonna upload a video in the next week about what happened. It was crazy.
Alrighty . We have a gas furnace with electric blower and it runs both up pretty high in the winter time . Thats y we got the pellet stove hoping to keep the bills down some . Dept of energy says it will only run the electric bill up about $9 a month but we will see also I think that article was written a few years ago . Well I really appreciate all the help and info . And tell ur wife I said u deserve some brownie points for saying she sees all and knows all :-)
I HIGHLY suggest that you get a pelpro pp130. Had ours for 2 yrs and heats a 2 story house that is 1400 square foot on a low 2 to 3 setting for 20 to 30 degree days. And during the polar vortexes we ran it at 5 to 6 setting. It goes up to a ten on settings. Their customer service is A+. Have a problem they stay on the line to help you fix it and send parts out extremely fast.
been using it for 6-7 months now no issues....I like it alot worth the money only my opinion...the smoldering sounds like pellet quality ar damp pellets
+Leonard Lambert Actually, after I made all these videos the thing straightened up and has been very reliable for the last year-and-a half. I should probably add a video, eh? Also, their customer service was terrific. When we thought (and, they thought) we had a bad auger motor they sent us a new one via priority mail - free. It was making a deafening racket and I called them and asked them what was wrong. They listened, over the phone, and thought it had a bad motor - turned out is just needed graphite. I guess ours just has some bugs that had to get worked out.......
Try cleaning your burn pot daily at a minimum. Noncombustible minerals build up into "clinkers" which affect the airflow through the burn pot. Also, your exhaust fan and chimney pipe should be cleaned every other month or so depending on amount of pellets burned just to keep a good draft throughout the stove. As someone else said about feed rate, try adjusting it because it doesn't appear that you've got a proper burn in the burn pot. There should be a 8-10" tall flame out of the burn pot on your higher settings and it should be burning bright yellow to white in color. I have my pellet stove (Heatilator ECO-CAB50) in the basement of my ranch house in Michigan and it's keeping my entire main level (1800 sq. ft.) at approximately 70 degrees on a medium/high setting and it's keeping my basement at 75+ degrees. I use a couple of box fans to move air up my stairway into the main level and that's all I do to keep the main level heated. If you're keeping the stove and chimney pipe clean and still having trouble, try using a different brand of pellets. I notice a difference from brand to brand on heat output and how dirty one brand may burn compared to another.
Reduce the auger speed, dropping too many pellets into the burn pot. You need to adjust the settings. You can find a you tube video on how to get into the settings and adjust the lbs per hour. I use the stove very effectively.
I believe you - maybe I'm doing something wrong. Ours hasn't run in two years. I might make one, final video. We got some bad pellets and a klinker the size of the firebox formed....like a loaf of bread. The heat warped the firebox and burned out the igniter. I'm just getting the thing put back together, now.
This could be an issue with your pellets. I agree with the technicians assessment. The stove is functioning as designed. When it starts smoldering, you can also open the door a crack to equalize the pressure in the chamber. This will actually help clear smoke through the stoves normal ventilation. You also have an auger delay button that can be used to delay / meter the feed of pellets during the ignition process. I love this stove - but ya, it's not perfect.
I’ve had nothing but good luck with this stove had it 5 years now with minimal problems had one that I paid 4x as much and the king is just as good I think it’s probably the operator of it
The problem is it’s dumping to many pellets on the initial startup and the igniter can’t fire all those pellets ,so it smokes and smokes until it finally ignites ,it need computer running change on start up
I have a 5500M, and have been recently getting smoked out as well. Only when I turn it off, though. Not unplug it, just turn it off. I've had to start lifting the lid, and leaving it on until all of the unburnt pellets burn off. I also have to vac mine out before every light. Cheap brand.
Yep - ours smokes, lately, when you turn it off..... They're just kinda buggy. We've had very few problems with it, this year, compared to last year. And the smoking when you turn it off isn't anything like the way it smoked before - when the firebox would fill with smoke instead of lighting...
Talk about the pellets smoldering and smoke . I had to call tech help. They walked me through , and tweaked the stove settings so now the pellets burn clean.
I know it’s old post. But when you see FireFlies in the burn pot. There is too much air burning pellets too fast. Heat Level 3 Draft Fan 2 Works Great! This is a manual setting. Book says auto is better. Nope... MANUAL! Always run draft fan One below Heat Level(Auger Speed)
The auger might be stopping because lid is not down properly, which may also cause the smoldering in fire box. Husband had to put weight on the lid. When he wants to clean the stove opens lid and then smoke not build up inside as pellets just burn out. We like stove well enough for price
Ours started running without any problems, just about the time I made my last video... I need to post a little update - it seemed to have some bugs, but, they seem to have worked themselves out. Go figure! We have grown to really like the thing....... As far as the lid being all the way down: the lid was absolutely down, on ours, when we had the problem with the smoldering/smoke. So I don't know what was causing the problem. But it's only done that once, this year, and that was because we used some pellets which had some clumps in them - it was my fault.
I have this same stove. When it's doesn't start its normally because of leftover burnt material in pot. It's better if you let it burn out on its own rather than turning it off. Or you'll have to clean it for it to start right
Took me a while to get my 5510 tuned in. I only run it on level 1, that's all I need for what I use it for. First The pellets do make a difference. Mine don't like the 100% hardwood. The worse the pellets are the higher the draft fan needs to be. Don't run in AUTO mode. I burn a more expensive brand than Lowes or Home Depot Sell. Also I needed to turn down the auger speed by adjusting the min flow speed using the hidden functions in the control panel.
Jim, I just bought a (hardly) used 5510. Everyone keeps mentioning the hidden functions on the control. Do you have any data you could share regarding that? Thanks!
Thanks Guy for the great review.. Wish we'd found it before we bought one! UGH.. Our's did the smoke thing about an hour ago, only there was a very loud explosion that went along with it..Scared the crap out of us.. We turned it off and unplugged the thing and there's still smoke seeping out of it.. never occurred to us that the pellets might possibly catch fire in the hopper!! OH MY... Of course, we tried to call the company, but they're closed.. We're afraid now to even start the thing. We paid $2000 for this thing from Tractor Supply a couple of weeks ago, had a professional install it.. One of our sons has had the same stove for 2 years with no problems at all.. Thought we were buying a great product, MADE IN THE US... we didn't see the packing, the guy that installed it took care of all that.. How interesting that there was paper from China.. Geeze!!!!! We aren't sure where to go from here, but we won't be starting it up again till we get ahold of the company... Very frightning.. That manual is horrible! It tells you to do this and that but they don't show a diagram of what they're talking about, what the parts look like, etc.. Anyhoo...thank you for the review.. Made my husband feel better knowing it's happened to others, too...
Hey Karen.... Actually, I probably need to make ANOTHER video... Ours had a bunch of oddball problems and then - about 3 months in - it became fairly problem free.... Why? I have virtually no idea. And, when we thought the auger was bad (it was making a horrible noise) the company listened to the thing, over the phone, and sent us a new one which arrived in 2 days. As it turned out, the thing just needed to be sprayed with graphite. Anyway, when I called about the auger I got some young gal who was absolutely super - the best customer service person who I've ever dealt with, about anything. I feel kinda bad - we're sitting here with an extra auger motor! She listened to the thing, though, and that was her diagnosis. So there's some good news: their customer service (if ya' get the right person) is excellent. At any rate, these things are definitely kinda buggy. We haven't had ours smoke since we started using it this year - over the last 3 weeks. For some reason your comment just popped up tonight and it's dated as being written 3 weeks ago - not sure what's up with that.... Let me know how do with yours - I'd be interested to see if you get things sorted out.
Guy Merritt You're right Guy.. They do have good customer service.. My husband has been on the phone with them a number of times and they asked him to check a number of things.. After deciding everything was connected correctly, they decided to send someone to check on it.. They contacted someone semi local (we kind of live in the boonies), the guy came, really gave it the once over, checked on our hookup, said it was perfect, made a few suggestions, including telling us his stove also has this problem occassionally, and that it's the sawdust in the bottom of the bags that end up getting dumped on the fire, smoldering it. So the two of them removed all the pellets, vacumned it out really well, my husband is now filtering out the pellets before putting them in the hopper.. he also cleaned this every single morning very well before starting it.. We thought the problem had been resolved, but it just did it again for no apparent reason.. My husband is on the phone with customer service once again.. We really like the stove, it gives out a great amount of heat, but we just can't have this thing suddenly filling up with smoke and have it leaking out into the house like this for no apparent reason.. I see you paid somewhere around $700 for yours.. We actually paid $1099 for ours.. Kind of a big investment for something we have to worry about using.. Very frustrated.. Customer service just transferred him to someone else who was not available, and is suppose to call us back..Can I ask, do you remember the name of the customer service rep you talked to? Was it Amy?
Karen Challender OH, and first time around I said we paid $2000 for it.. I think I was dizzy from the smoke. haha.. We paid $1099 for it.. And after I wrote that first post, I went out and found the box waiting for the garbage.. It does say "Made in China" on the side of the box.. Man oh man.. is nothing made in the US anymore?
Karen Challender Ya' know, I wrote her name down and lost the darned file (on my computer). I think it 'might' have been Amy. My wife says we paid almost a thousand for ours, too - on sale.....just a bit less than you folks. And, yes, this company really promotes the "made in the US" story, and I don't know why - because they can get away with it, I suppose. I didn't even see the writing on the box, but the packing was definitely oriental newspaper! Shoulda come with a box of Rica a Roni. I don't really care - but I really don't like that kind of false advertising. Ours - for whatever reason - hasn't smoked up once this season...... Is yours still smoking up the house....???
Just fyi . Department of energy was wrong when they said it will run ur electric bill up around $9 a month . If u run the fan on high which we had ti because our furnace went our and this was our primary source of heat rhis past winter . It ran our bill up around $50 to $60 more . Living in southern ohio and having a 1100 square foot house. We went thru 4 tons of pellets this past winter . The only thing I dont like about this stove is the fact that it doesn't have a thermostat. The room its in gets really warm but the rest of house doesnt . It will run u out of the room if u turn it up too high trying to heat the whole house even if using ceiling fans . And also if its on 1 it uses 1 bag of pellets a day . If its on 2 it uses 2 bags and so on . Ive never had it on 5 because its in my living room and I couldn't stay in here if it was on 5 :-) just thought id add a little more info now that I have used it for a winter . Also be prepared to have a place thats guaranteed not to get wet to store a ton of pellets . 1 ton is 50 bags of 40lb bags . Dont store them outside under a tarp unless u just want to waste them . A ton in my area cost around $250 .
Same exact pellet burner and same exact problems! 4000sqf house smoked out! Smoldering pellets and had a blowback, I'm a Merritt as well , we always keep it on 3 in the basement with the furnace heating the upstairs as well, and yes we have a shopvack downstairs Lol this stove sucks
Hey manual says burn outside first to burn the oils off all the parts , I forgot and it sounds like what you went through, sift all u r pellets through a makeshift screen , get all the dust and saw dust out and off your pellet so it doesn't clogg ur auger! Sounds like u have a beginning of a clogged part. , and never put hot coals in a plastic garbage can that is on a wood deck attached to u r home or your house will turn into a pellet stove.
had issues with mine not the stoves fault, I would run it for a few hrs then shout it down, would not start back up unless I would vacume. its been on for 4 days and nights not the first problem we heat a 3 car garage not insulated, great heater
Hi Guy... Just wanted to update our experience with this stove this past winter.. Like you, suddenly ours started behaving and we haven't had another smoke episode. We aren't using it 24 hours a day like most people, though..We only use it during the day. We run 2 eden pures at night. My husband has been cleaning it out every morning before starting it, epspecially the burn pot, and about once a week, he removes those little doors located on both sides of the burn pot and vacumns that out really well.. One of us always watches it when it's going through the lighting phase because there are times we've noticed it's dumping, what appears to be, too many pellets into the burn pot.. If it's dumping too many and hasn't lit yet, we'll lift the top to prevent more pellets from dropping into the burn pot.. We're wondering if those smoking episode were created by so many pellets being dropped that it caused the flame to smoulder, causing all the smoke??? At any rate, we were extremly grateful for this thing this past winter with such cold temps here in northern Michigan. It kept the majority of our house toasty warm and cut our electric bill by more than half compared to previous winters.. We bought 3 tons of pellets at a local pellet factory and just picked up the last 8 bags..With the weather finally warming up, we think the 8 bags will get us through the remainder of the heating season since we aren't running it all day right now. 3 tons seems like the perfect amount for the heating season for our 2020 sq ft home.
Hey Karen: Thanks for the update....glad yours started working better, as did ours. I guess they're just kinda buggy. It seemed to have worked out the smoking problem and, as you said, maybe the thing was getting too many pellets. The odd thing is this: beyond cleaning it out, I haven't really done much different to the thing. Maybe I told you, but: we had an episode where the auger started grinding - it was crazy loud....sounded like car brakes when the pads wear out and metal is grinding on metal. I called the factory and the gal said it was our auger motor (hey...she listened to it on speaker phone). We got the darned thing in a day, as I recall - they mailed it to us. She was wrong: it just need to be sprayed with graphite. So I'm sitting here with a spare motor. I gotta say, it was great customer service. If yours ever makes a terrific grinding noise, be advised that it probably just needs to be sprayed. Anyway, glad we've all got things working better!
Hey GUY I have the same stove had it for 4 months you shouldn't be getting smoke threw the heat vent. I clean mine every two days but now it's leaking co2 into my house there could be a bad weld in the heat changer there shouldn't be smoke or co2 coming out of the heat vent period .A word of caution co2 is deadly if you start feeling strange with rapid heart rate get to fresh air immediately.
The stove should heat your whole house in Michigan. You can set the auger speed in lbs. per hour for each setting 1 - 5. You have to go into the settings and adjust the auger rate.
the biggest problem with these stoves is that when you buy them the factory did not cut the gasket at the bottom of the door glass for the air wash.. gotta do that yourself and the manual does not tell you this
I use a Quadra fire and after a ton of pellets they mean clean the whole thing out taking the inside apart your supposed to vacuum out the fire box about once a day plus buy some different pellets trial and error just saying
Has anyone had an issue where the room fan/ blower makes an absolutely excruciating whine a few minutes after it kicks in? Also, when you shut down, just open the hopper lid and that stops the auger via the safety switch. You don't end up with a burnpot full of unburnt pellets.
my husband went up to buy the 68000 btu until and this one was on sale for 9 something and with our house only being 1200 square feet we thought this unit should work fine. we also got a ton of pellets. we just purchased it a few days and i didnt read any reviews on this one because we had planned on getting the other one. i was really worried after watching ur videos but after reading the comments im feeling better about it. any advice for new pellet stove owners would be greatly appreciated :-)
+ella gregory Just a note: if you've read my comments, we had some issues early on and then - after I made these videos - the thing just started working fine. We had problems with it smoking up (as I've describe) and, to be honest, I didn't adjust anything - but after the first year it just started working with little or no problems. To be honest, we've reached the point where we love the thing. I think you'll be happy with the stove. If you look at the three videos I've uploaded you'll find some good tips. First and foremost: keep all of the parts (including the vent pipe) clean. As I mentioned in the video, the manual says you should clean out the fire box after you burn a ton of pellets. That's nuts - the thing will be full of soot after a couple of days of persistent use. Also, ours was making an incredible grinding noise and we thought the auger motor was shot - it just need to be sprayed with graphite. I'd keep some graphite spray handy. My wife wants me to add that some brands of pellets seem to burn cleaner, hotter, etc. Of course, keep 'em in a dry place.
If auger prob, make sure set screw is tight. Dirty burn..?...adjust the air intake(I guess u could call it). Haven't heard anyone talk about this. It is the main lil thing you have to practice and learn to adjust per pellet type ect ect. Some may burn different at diff setting ect. Get curious and picky with the lil air adjustment knob, it will lead to cleaner burn and more booklike stats(cleaning ect). After you get used to adjusting the air for proper flame(per pellet type and who knows...moisture) it wont seam you had to learn it and will be automatic. A tip, if you get access to intake of circulating fan, tape a flex duct to it and run it to another room or into the furnace duct(if you don't need to use it with pellet stove on)...this will help to circulate heat if that is a prob.
We run the exact same model in our house and it works great when one follows the directions in the manual to the letter. Proper hookup of the air exchange seems likely to go far in curing the problems had by the fella in this video with his stove, it was stated in the first troubleshooting video posted that the air exchange was disregarded. That is likely to be why he's having smoke problems as far as I'm concerned. The King pellet stove model 5502M is a fine product and will perform well if the instructions are followed.
I actually need to make a "Part 4", as I've commented elsewhere. After the initial problems we had - and I have no idea why - the thing has been almost problem-free for the last 3 years. It IS a good product......I owe the manufacturer an update - and, by the way, their customer service is great.
put one in a 3 car garage worked great for 2 days fire dies down turn it off and back on feeds pellets then dies back down cleaned it so many times to me its a bad unit now the draft motor stopped this stove would make a boat anchor called co same old bs did you clean it
My boyfriend and I just got ours hooked up yesterday. (same stove) ran great all yesterday and all through the night. got home from work tonight and the stove was out and the screen said error 2 so we turned it back on. not 5 minutes later the thing snoked out my house! i have no idea what to do. we don't have the air intake pipe hooked up.
i had a 5500m and had feed problem call usa stove and they tried to adjust the feed . no luck they told me i needed a control box at the cost of $520.00 are you kidding me. The stove only cost $1000.00 how do they come up with that!!!!!!!! went and bought a Harmon....
also pellets are a huge difference we are close to 2 different tractor supply stores both have different brands of pellets.... the white bags are complete junk burn real nasty the others burn well... however i have moved to getting pellets from menards and they are wayyyyy better
Yes....very easy. As I recall you just take off a couple of screws on the back of the unit and the auger is accessible. Ours was making an incredible racket - you could hear it outside...... I sprayed it with graphite and - boom - it was fine.
We bought our stove just a few weeks ago and up until yesterday it had been turned off for a few days due to weather being on the warm side. Last night we lit it up and it has ran for over just 24 hours. We thought we would turn it up to 3 which we usually only run on 1, and within an hour the room blower motor started surging on and off and finally the stove shut itself off. It indicated on the control panel and error 8. I'm rather disappointed in this development since our weather is now around the zero degree mark, plus this is a new stove hardly a month old. Does customer service send someone to fix these problems?
No, but I've had great luck with their customer service people. Ours was making a horrible noise and I played it for them, over the phone (unbelievably loud grinding sound). I suspected the motor was bad, and, the gal on the other end of the phone agreed. They sent me a new auger motor express mail - free. it came in two days. As it turned out, the auger motor just needed to be sprayed with graphite. Point is: my experience with their customer service was excellent. I actually wanna make a 4th video - ours has been perfect after the first winter. Hope you get it fixed - call them Monday.
+Joshua Collins Surprised about the 15-20 bags. We've really grown to love the thing (by all rights I should make an apology video) but it doesn't act right if we try to let it go that long without cleaning.
Did you ever fix your smoke problem? I had the same issue and it turned out to be those two little metal covers in the burn chamber. They have to fit snug or the blower will blow the chimney smoke back into the burn chamber. I know it's been 2 yrs but thought I would voice anyway. Jerry
Hey Jerry. This is almost embarrassing - I didn't do a damned thing and, after the first year, the thing never acted up like that again - seriously. I have no idea why - I need to make a video #4. We love the thing. It kinda healed itself, I guess!!
I see this video is 4 years old, I just bought the same stove but the newer model obviously is 2018, did you ever figure out what was wrong with your stove, are you still using it, mine seems to work perfectly
Thanks for the info . Does it run ur electric bill up much ? And also, we ran ours last night and there is stuff on the glass that wont come off with glass cleaner . What do u use or can u even get it off ?
+Ella Gregory Well, it's gonna run your electric up a little - because it has a computer board and a fan, an igniter, etc. I don't imagine the electric is gonna be anything like the gas or oil you'd use heating without the thing. My wife says she didn't notice much of a difference in our electric - she knows all, and, sees all. I just do the dirty work. As far as the glass, you can use something abrasive (like Boraxo) if you can't get it clean - you have to rub like hell, but I've always managed to get ours clean.
+Ella Gregory ... Tear off a small chuck of steel wool dip in a pan of water and lightly scrub off the tar. Keep dunking in water to clean and trow away when not effective. Even works on hard water deposits. Will not scratch the glass.
Eric Miguel thanks . I actually found a mr clean cleaner that works good . Been using the stove for quite a few months now and that tar or whatever it is doesn't get bad now . Usually comes off with glass cleaner now .
Donald Barnes thanks . I found a mr clean product that gets it off . It was bad when we first started using the stove and now that we have used it for months it comes off using glass cleaner . Thanks for the info though .
dont get me wrong..I clean the pipe with a brush after 20 bags and shop vac it out..I clean the burn pot after it goes out every day or two and the door glass on the inside
+Joshua Collins Funny timing: I vacuumed ours out Friday. We just turned it on and the pellets came down and it wouldn't start. Might be the brand of pellets. I had to vacuum it out, and it was fine. There was a small clump of ash that I think was blocking the igniter. But we never go more than about 5-8 bags without cleaning it out.
Nothing wrong with King 5500 series stoves, I'll bet only Englander has more stoves out there than Kings, IF you include all the King 'Clones' more than any.. Pellet stoves are "Hands ON". You have to learn how to burn them. In the video the stove has TOO MUCH Combustion air. A short overly excited flame is too much combustion air,few or in the extreme NO embers in the pot, hot flame out. In the narrative, accumulating pellets in the burn pot is not enough combustion air. A tall dark flame flame with blunt flame tips is NOT enough combustion air, unburned pellets will accumulate in the burn post . Extreme is smothered flame and cold flame out. Ash will be dark, making charcoal and not burning it. The DRAFT FAN buttons (UP and DOWN) control the combustion air. Ideal is a medium height BRIGHT excited flame with sharp flame tips. A good amount of burning embers in the pot some jumping around if possible. Ideal is; white ash deposits on the heat exchangers and window indicating complete combustion, the HOLY GRAIL of wood burning. You will produce grey fly ash as fine as powder.
I'm beginning to thing the cleaning issue (I just started using our old pellet stove this week; it was in the house when we bought it last spring and I have zero pellet stove experience) is about the pellets - fir pellets, the cheap ones, are bound to be full of resin and cause clogging/cleaning issues. I'll bet the more expensive hardwood pellets burn way cleaner. If I can find some that's my next experiment. (Once the house fills with smoke it really never goes away ...)
We love the thing (now) but, contrary to some videos on UA-cam, one of these heats our den and "kinda" heats the adjacent living room. There's one video, referring to this exact unit, where the guy says it heats his whole house to 80 degrees or something..... The guy cannot live in the upper Midwest (like us, in Michigan).
We live in southern ohio in a small I story house and it hept our big livingroom too toasty and the rest chilly so we had to use kerosene . We got a new furnace now so I might use it on 1 just to help the living room . Maybe it would have helped if we turned it all the way up but then u wouldn't have been able to stand it in the livingroom even with cieling fans going . But I do like it .
Yeah - kinda have the same problem. I just leave ours on "5", but, it gets too toasty in the family room (often) and the living room - which is open to the den with a large archway - stays comfortable or a little cool. I wondered about putting a fan next to the thing to help the hear circulate.......
Sounds like you are useing poor quality pellets I use tractor supply pillits Tryed one bag from walley world. That was a big big misstake. Talk about drama It was a misstake from hell had to drag a air hose through the house blow all that hard clay wood out of my stove It James my Alger like concrest. Do not use cheap pillits It’s a big big misstake
I have the same Pellet stove and I've had exactly the same problems! I thought it might be the pellets and we tried different types ..same problem. Also, running the stove just as the manual says..Piece of shit. I have a woodstove down in my cellar ( Thankfully!) and I use it as well, and thankgod or I would freeze to death!
i just got a king 5500m unit for 2100 bucks and it is junk my little space heater works better than this stove it takes over 1hr at times to start it is junk do not buy one waste of money
had anyone thought that maybe the pellets are damp or there maybe an issue with the pellets your buying just a thought bud sorry you have so many problems
Lately it's been doing' a LOT better....... I guess they're all a little buggy - I should probably make another video. It's really run well this year.....
The problem is it's made in CHINA... I had one that required 3 REPAIRS with the 1st Season ! THEY ARE TOTAL JUNK ! 1st it the Igniter.... replace it 2 times within 1 season 2nd Negative Pressure Switch 3rd a $500.00 Control Board, Best of all USSC want YOU to PAY a Certified Repairmen to do the repair and parts replacements ! Really So, after you wasted your money and not getting any heat, because it's BROKE DOWN, your out of luck ! Want to WASTE YOUR MONEY, THEN BUY FROM USSC ! MY WENT TO THE SCRAP PILE, IT'S AT HOME NOW!
We will never buy another one! Three days in we heard a pop and something fell inside...while on the phone with company they had us open the side and something fell and made a boom! They said they had 3 of them this week do that....they were assembled with counter pins that were too long. No one would come and fix it as they said the company is notorious for non payment. Finally my husband took a look and did what company suggested...shortened counter pin. Started the stove and it got so hot my son's shirt touched it and melted. My husband also burned his hand on it. Nothing but problems...am going to return it to the store and insist they take it back. We have operated pellet stoves for almost 20 yrs in our house, so we're not New at it. Buyer beware!
Had my kp130 for awhile now and not one problem. Works great!
Love our King stove, three years of trouble free use and we don't clean our as often as we probably should. Just a lil loud.
I’ve had nothing but good luck with this stove had it 5 years now with minimal problems had one that I paid 4x as much and the king is just as good I think it’s probably the operator of it
The thing acted up, in a multitude of ways, for the first few months....then it was absolutely problem free: ua-cam.com/video/icZc_emunhk/v-deo.html
Drill some extra holes in the burn pot at least 4 on each side will help alot
Heat Level 3
Draft Fan 2
Works Great!
Let me know how do with yours - I'd be interested to see if you get things sorted out.
..as I recall, this unit was on sale for 700 bucks... Is yours the same model?? We got ours at TSC, too.
I'm in New Hampshire and have same stove-Same problems.I wish I could just chuck the whole thing into the Forest!
Hey Guy, I saw that the stove finally works for you. Did you ever hook up the air intake? You really owe us a part 4! You are hilarious.
Nvrmd. I found part 4.
@@fran-gc4lx I was pretty non-hilarious in part 4........I've lost my mojo or something...... How ya been , Fran?
+Guy Merritt More than likely a small rock got into the auger area .
When I have some trouble I unplug it clean under and around burn pot .
trial and error man..hope it starts working good for you..should try a new igniter. .its either the pellets or igniter getting weak...
Can you post on how to get into the settings to change this?
i would also like to know how to get into the settings for this adjustment.
King Pellet Stove 🤟
Dude My King pellet stove igniter constantly stays on, even after shutdown mode completes it still glowing red-hot. any info much appreciated
You need to go with a M-55 by Enviro .
I have that same stove with no problems
the biggest problem with these stoves is that when you buy them the factory did not cut the gasket at the bottom of the door glass for the air wash.. gotta do that yourself and the manual does not tell you this
I use a Quadra fire and after a ton of pellets they mean clean the whole thing out taking the inside apart your supposed to vacuum out the fire box about once a day plus buy some different pellets trial and error just saying
FYI u should shop vac every stove once a day
Just buy a Harmon stove, my friend... you and your family's safety is worth it. Happy Home-Owning!
hello Guy's , i just want to know about the smoke outside !! it give smoke like the wood fireplace or less !? thank you
Has anyone had an issue where the room fan/ blower makes an absolutely excruciating whine a few minutes after it kicks in?
Also, when you shut down, just open the hopper lid and that stops the auger via the safety switch. You don't end up with a burnpot full of unburnt pellets.
Bearing in blower going bad.
my husband went up to buy the 68000 btu until and this one was on sale for 9 something and with our house only being 1200 square feet we thought this unit should work fine. we also got a ton of pellets. we just purchased it a few days and i didnt read any reviews on this one because we had planned on getting the other one. i was really worried after watching ur videos but after reading the comments im feeling better about it. any advice for new pellet stove owners would be greatly appreciated :-)
Is it easy to get to where the graphite is needed on the auger?
Yes....very easy. As I recall you just take off a couple of screws on the back of the unit and the auger is accessible. Ours was making an incredible racket - you could hear it outside...... I sprayed it with graphite and - boom - it was fine.
Does it run ur electric bill up much ?
Hope you get it fixed - call them Monday.
ok thanks
I burn 15-20 bags before I clean mine with shop vac..never had any issues..love it..same stove
+Joshua Collins Surprised about the 15-20 bags. We've really grown to love the thing (by all rights I should make an apology video) but it doesn't act right if we try to let it go that long without cleaning.
Here's a link to a video of this thing filling with smoke.... King Pellet stove problems part 2
Okay Guy, great . Glad to hear your up and running
I see this video is 4 years old, I just bought the same stove but the newer model obviously is 2018, did you ever figure out what was wrong with your stove, are you still using it, mine seems to work perfectly
I have the 5500m but has anyone had the auger motor break off the the auger shaft I have had this happen twice
Try wetting a rag, paper towels or newspaper, dipped in the wood ashes to clean the glass... been the best way I've found, works great.
Guy Merritt
Turn the Pellet feed down. They come from factory at 5lb per hour set down to about 2lb per hour
Update?
ARE YOU BUYING QUALITY PELLETS?
U got a dud, it can be fixed though by 3 things 1. move igniter closer 2 burnpot.
2. shave off auger 1/4 “.
3. install a klinkerking
How do u move igniter closer?
Nothing wrong with King 5500 series stoves,
I'll bet only Englander has more stoves out there than Kings,
IF you include all the King 'Clones' more than any..
Pellet stoves are "Hands ON".
You have to learn how to burn them.
In the video the stove has TOO MUCH Combustion air.
A short overly excited flame is too much combustion air,few or in the extreme NO embers in the pot, hot flame out.
In the narrative,
accumulating pellets in the burn pot is not enough combustion air.
Ideal is a medium height BRIGHT excited flame with sharp flame tips. A good amount of burning embers in the pot some jumping around if possible. Ideal is;
white ash deposits on the heat exchangers and window indicating complete combustion, the HOLY GRAIL of wood burning.
You will produce grey fly ash as fine as powder.
junk it get a wood burner I am sick of out stove omg clean clean clean and hes correct clean it every damn day
I'm beginning to thing the cleaning issue (I just started using our old pellet stove this week; it was in the house when we bought it last spring and I have zero pellet stove experience) is about the pellets - fir pellets, the cheap ones, are bound to be full of resin and cause clogging/cleaning issues. I'll bet the more expensive hardwood pellets burn way cleaner. If I can find some that's my next experiment. (Once the house fills with smoke it really never goes away ...)
Room blower doesn't start
we have one worst pos I ever had a damn boat anchor don't get one !!!!!!
And we also had to use a kerosene heater forthe rest of the house
It did use a lot of pellets though . We never turned it up past 3 and if it was on 3 we put almost 3 bags in it a day
Yeah - kinda have the same problem.
Do not use cheap pillits It’s a big big misstake
you are running poor quality pellets and misusing the stove.
Your problem is you cold air intake. Pellets will not burn proper unless you have air intake and air exhaust.
+Barry Pepin You might be right - the manual said that was "optional", and I've never hooked it up.
+Guy Merritt Hook your cold intake to a outside air source and that will fix you problem.
Berry Pepin I am having the same issue with my USSC 5500M... do you know where I can buy the air intake parts? Sorry I am new to pellet stoves.
Too funny with the newspaper comments. Made in Red China.
Stove chow hardwood pellets.
The augers r known to jam ,see my videos ,u gotta file down auger
And fix your draft issues . Mine will run me out of my house on high

Lately it's been doing' a LOT better....... I guess they're all a little buggy - I should probably make another video. It's really run well this year.....
The problem is it's made in CHINA... I had one that required 3 REPAIRS with the 1st Season ! THEY ARE TOTAL JUNK !
1st it the Igniter.... replace it 2 times within 1 season
2nd Negative Pressure Switch
3rd a $500.00 Control Board,
