R.A. the Rugged Man: Kanye is a Good Beat Maker, But He's Very Overrated
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 лют 2017
- R.A. the Rugged Man stopped by VladTV for another entertaining interview, and this time around he touched on his previous statements about Lil Yachty. The New York rapper said that Yachty fans are now looking up to him thinking that they don't need to learn how to rap in order to make it in hip-hop. He also added that he disagrees with Talib's sentiments about new artists, but R.A. said that he could respect their hustle without liking their music.
To hear more of what R.A. had to say, including why he thinks Kanye is overrated, hit the above clip. - Розваги
Vlad: So what do you think about kanye?
RA: he's overrated
vlad: really? so what do you think about slim jesus
LMAO
HAHA

When you put a real hip hop head in front of Vlad you see just how comical his viewpoints can be 😂
Ray Quan that shit was hilarious, when he spit the Kanye verse.
commercial ass nigga lmao PUPPET!!!
correction : When you put a "real hip hop head who stands his ground and doesnt regurgitate safe, politically correct,go-to,prefabricated bullshit he doesnt actually believe in" in front of Vlad you see just how comical his viewpoints can be .vlad interviewed many true hip hop heads over the years who were once honorable people worthy of respect...but they were all too fuckin pussy to tell it like it is.all cave to pressure, cause they dont wanna come off as "a hater".dont wanna be the old head tellin kids to get off their lawn.wanna seem hip, like they "get it".and dont wanna piss off or alienate lil yachtis stans.fuckin mollusks all of em.guess hip hop is not worth "rocking the boat" for
Ray Quan .. funny , half way through the interview I thought the same thing
Vlad is so goddamn corney my goodness
Vlad getting smoked by a walking hip-hop culture encyclopediac

One of Vlad's points is that "there's always been mindless party records" yeah back then it was 10% of the rap game. Now it's 90.
Dwight Davis not really. it just gets promoted more
Dwight Davis nah it's all of the mainstream but there's a lot of lyrical stuff in the underground right now... hell the new billy woods album is super lyrical
Actually in the beginning of rap up until like 87, like 3/4 of rap was party records (Kurtis Blow, Afrika Bambaataa, Run DMC, Newcleus, the Miami Bass scene, the LA electro rap scene, UTFO, Grandmaster Flash, LL Cool J). It wasn’t til the introduction of an alternative more lyrical and more hardcore artists that things became the “Golden era of 88-early 2000s” that all the old heads talk about. And even then all the alt hip hop and gangsta rap’s biggest hit of the 90s was party bangers

Speaking on musical geniuses: The one rapper i have to say is a musical genius when it comes to rap and sound is KRAYZIE BONE. Not talking about punchlines or metaphors, i am talking about SOUND.

Just sound-wise he can make a simple instrumental into an orchestral piece. He is very different than just a rapper.

Kanye started falling off after My Dark Twisted Fantasy (a masterpiece). Yeezus let me know that he started making trash.

People always cloud Kanye into the last 5 years but forget to mention making beats and actual hip hop from Jay-Z to Mos Def to Cam'ron. College Dropout is a great album.
I don't think anyone denies this. Actually, the rea hip hop heads prefer the old college drop out Kanye. His rap skills have always been unimpressive but he was making good songs with a meaningful theme. We are saying he is overrated. He is good at what he does but certainly not a musical genius whatsoever.

R.A always comes through with the Faxxxx
"An intellectual says a simple thing in a complex way but an artists says a complex thing in a simple way."
JUST CAUSE YOU CAN RAP EVERY SYLLABLE VERY TECHNICALLY DOES NOT MEAN YOURE A GREAT ARTIST.
Facts
Eminem alert!
That's an oxymoron, to be technical it takes getting to a level of artistry to a point where you are able to be technical with it. You literally and philosophically can't say technicality doesn't mean you aren't a great artist. It would depend on what you mean by great and what I mean by great. Which would spark another debate in which we would argue who's version of great should more value, yours or mine. We would never agree so there's no point. You don't seem like one who would comprehend that you're even losing the argument
I didn't know this man and I'm sorry, because in just 10 minutes he earned all my respect.
Go listen to his music. He’s a Sick lyrical beast. Lyrically Top 3 EVER imo

Why does every Vlad interview now involve him squeezing Lil Yachty into the conversation. He gets these talented MCs that he can ask anything, and chooses to keep talking about how Lil Yachty is relevant.
2020... where's Lil Yatchys career now lol?
He wearing a dress.
I agree with RA that the respect for the craft isn't what it used, but it's really debatable whether rappers could have become even more lyrical than they were in the mid to late 90's without totally alienating potential fans in the process. If you listen to Ras Kass, Canibus (1999-2003 especially), or some of the stuff that underground rappers like Sir Menelik and El-P were doing in the late 90's, you will probably reach the conclusion that that whole ultra lyrical thing arguably went as far as it could before it simply became a chore to listen to.
Don't get me wrong, I love lyrical rappers, but they just aren't as marketable. Kendrick and Cole in some ways built on what artists in the last decade like Common and Lupe Fiasco started, mixing lyrical, socially conscious rap with pop hooks, and those guys are killing it right now commercially, but it's an incredibly difficult balancing act and most fail at doing it. Not even Kweli pulled it off on a mainstream level (e.g The Beautiful Struggle and Eardrum) and that guy had strong critical support and love from the hip-hop community. And both of those guys are much bigger than Common, Lupe and Kweli ever were. They are huge exceptions to the rule that aren't really indicative of anything in particular. They are talented guys that managed to break through and sell a shit ton of records, but it doesn't happen often.
In short, I think the problem with mainstream rap being dumbed down isn't as big of a problem as the new underground rappers lacking innovation. That is a much bigger problem in my view simply because the underground was traditionally were the lifeblood was, where the most original ideas came from etc.
i agree man. i love lyricism but you don't have to be, to be a good artist.
The real problem is i remember when Blackmon, Smif and Wessun Mobb Deep, Wu and the likes of Nas WAS the underground.

There kinda is, Em ran out of topics after MMLP, Pac would have been a great Writer, like Novels and Poetry, and a great Actor, he wasn't the best on the mic, people who rate him high don't even listen to Pac that much, it's just about his personality and potential, not as a rapper.

Kanye makes good music but he is an extremely overrated RAPPER. The only reason it works is 1. He has good beats to back him up and 2. he's part of this dumb down generation where people assume you're a good rapper if your beats are good. R.A. would shred Kanye into pieces it's not even close.
Listened to Young Dolph for the first time yesterday also my last time. Hilarious how untalented "rappers" make it today.
Idk YE did john legend album common's be you don't know my name his shit too diverse to say overrated his catalogue is crazy
johnnycage435- Kanye is not the only one who did John Legend 1st project! My man William aka Will-I-Am. Did several songs on that project including co-writing "Ordinary People"!!! Speaking of which, Kanye has mad respect for Will as a producer-musician/rapper/beatmaker Will was a big influence on Kanye's decision to become a pop artist, even though it wasn't Will's intention initially to be Pop!!!
his engineer pretty much produced Kanye's first album, read the Scratch magazine track breakdown, he should have got co-production credit.
While you dont have to respect the artist, you as an artist have to acknowledge their movement if it is gaining significant traction.

I mean they think they are and their fans think they are but they are not. They are just a retro act, like an all star game with old players on TV. Thats not the real shit or relevant in any form. Thats just some backwards ass retro shit. And no i dont listen to lil yachty
He's right when I was younger I was all over underground rap with lyrics you just don't hear anywhere else and now kids just go for the hype xxx was one of the only younger artists that had lyrics and would of been great to see the progression
RA is right. Kanye is a good producer but extremely overrated rapper who doesn't even write his shit.
Kanye used to be a dope producer and song maker but after his first 2 albums, he just fell way off. He just now has a few good ones here and there nowadays. As a rapper, when will you people ever realize that Kanye is in the same boat as Diddy and Dr. Dre? He's a producer first and foremost amd just like Dre, his rhymes were written for him
This is why DJ Quik is the best artist/producer of all time but bcuz he's underground he doesn't get the respect he should. You can not like his subject matter but he still a slick rapper that has funny and clever lines. Is he a Nas or top 10 MC of all time? No..but he still is above average and writes his own songs among all the rest of the many things he does in the studio that most people have to go to school to learn
