    Thanks, great vid.
    If you live in rust areas, coat the jam nuts and threaded rod with grease.
    Stay gold.

    If parking brake isnt up to par, go in reverse and use the parking brake. It helps readjust it.

    I can't figure out how to adjust the rear drum brakes on a 1983 Chevy k10 4x4 pickup. There is no slot in the backing plate to adjust the star wheel and my parking brake just barely holds. Hopefully you have experience with the old squarebody trucks because my service manual only says keep backing up and pushing the brakes which dosen't seem to be doing anything

      1 - First, make sure your brake shoes, mechanisms, drums, cables and pedal work properly and move freely and are not worn.
      2 - Remove the drums, clean, lubricate and adjust the star wheel until the drums barely slide back on over the brake shoes.
      3 - Put the wheel on with 2 nuts, spin the wheel. There should be SLIGHT drag.
      Repeat steps 3 & 4 until your parking brake works how you want.
      Stay gold.

      Mine doesn't have a star wheel. It has some adjusting quadrant, I guess it's suppose to self adjust? But there is a squeal when I release the brake pedal. The squeal is absent when the parking brake is applied.

    If I have to press my parking brake pedal too far to the floor to get it to work, does it just need to be tightened at the back there where those nuts were?

    I think you meant, "PROPERLY" diagnose and repair the parking brake. Let's go into the wayback machine, Mr. Peabody, and change the past 8 years ago... ha ha. Thank you Sherman.

    Was the original problem a break that wouldn't catch, or wouldn't release?

      Neither. It was just an instructional video that ended up being a real diagnosis and fix

    What if my parking brake seems to drag and get the drums really hot??? How do I adjust them?

    • @chrisnewell1609
      @chrisnewell1609  4 роки тому +1

      You might need to check the return springs inside the drum to make sure they are functioning properly. There is an adjustment you can make from the back side of the drum but I would start with checking the internal springs
