Why not just try again next year? Why give up? Just try to improve upon your result next year and push for 75 in the qualifier. Take advantage of the years you are physically able to play well, that way you don't look back in a decade or two and wish you had.

@enzy6434 FYI I DID watch the round as I have most if his video's but at the end of the day on and around the green he's not good enough......I'm not slagging the guy off it's just the truth.....But the way they talk like what could of should of, is comical....most video's I've watched eg 10+ etc....he's been lucky to break 80 so what does that tell you?????
Again I've all the respect for Rick as a UA-cam golfer and his content but when he talks like he's up there to compete on the tour.....I'm sorry he's not. It's a different level ....totally ⛳️

@@TtvPhenrik1 +9 or +12, a distinction without a difference. Neither are close to qualifying by a substantial margin and neither player should be criticized for trying.
I can think of one case where I made comments about a player's tournament scores. In my large size city's amateur championship, one of the players with a +2 handicap didn't break 100 in any of the 3 rounds on different courses of the tournament. Vanity handicap immediately came to mind. I suppose the player could have been injured, but shooting 100+ ??? I think he should have withdrawn because he would be distracting and slowing down other players trying to do their best.

@@twostate7822 there has been a bit of back and forth. Especially in Peters camp. When they talked about the last golfbidder challenge, a turd in the rough cut studio laughed and dissed Rick. Now Rick posted a better score than Peter in the same open qualifyer. Peter has worked his ass off and gone through a while list. Multiple trainers and fittings. I've recently joined the Amateur Players Tour in the US. I've picked up golf about 5 years ago, this year I'm down to about 13hcp and the competition mindset (though I've played college baseball) is a whole different animal. It's still amateur stuff and nowhere near this, but the preparation and performance in those events is hugely different.
I've found a way to get a back-to-back win a week ago, but it takes dedication and practice.
Thanks for bringing this to us Rick!

Rick, you hit some pretty good recovery shots, but I’ve got a few tips that might help you get over the hump.
    1. Throw that driver in a trash can.
    2. Pour gasoline in the trash can.
    3. Toss a lit match in the trash can.
    4. Go find your Ping driver.
    5. Go play golf.
I know you didn’t like the Qi10 max driver because you didn’t get very good distance with it, but perhaps with a proper fitting you might be able to squeeze out a few more yards. When I had my fitting, I was able to get the most distance with the standard model as well, and the max was reliably straight like you, but I was only losing seven yards on average with the max. I opted for the reliability, and it’s now the club I have the absolute most confidence in off the tee box. I just get the sense that you’re wanting to make the Cobra work for you, almost a square peg in a round hole.

Good point on goal setting. I think with Open Qualifying no matter how well you're playing, or what you think your limit is you HAVE to go in with the mindset of qualifying for the next phase. Going in with "Break 75" as the goal was probably too low and then as you said yourself you start to accept or want 77, 78, 79 quite quickly. Good reflection, lets go again next year.

I play tournament golf and obviously casual golf. To me they are exactly the same. I have never felt more pressure playing tourney golf in front of a crowd than playing with my mates. I try to play the absolute best golf every time I tee it up. I also always make sure I have fun and enjoy every second of the round. I am a 3 handicap. Never understood the pressure people put on themselves...it hurts your game.

Golf-wise me & Rick are in a very similar position. I’m a former 3+ and now struggling to play off 4. I’ve had the yips in my chipping for over 2 years and I hit rock bottom. Fortunately I am getting better but the frustration of playing bad golf almost made me walk away from the game as I just wasn’t enjoying it.

I compete in many sports. Winning requires you to play the game on 3 levels. 1) Mentally - know the rules, strategies, your strengths/weaknesses, how to adapt, how to focus. 2) Emotionally - you must have the drive, determination, confidence, courage, guts, aggressiveness to go for it. 3) Physically - you have to have put in the time to develop the skills and be able to execute the desired strategies and shots. Anyone can learn #1 and practice to develop #3. Developing emotional strength takes just as much work as developing physical strength. This is the what separates someone who crumbles after a bad first 9 and someone who comes back to shoot -1 over the next 8 holes even though "winning" is impossible.

Would've, could've, should've is the trap that most if not all golfers fall into looking backwards to what happened. The challenge is often focusing on the most important shot you have which is your next one. A maddening game. 😅

For what it's worth, I would suggest to forget about the end score and create a course plan. Plan each shot for each hole that will allow you a birdie and try to execute every single one of those shots while minimizing risk. Don't just try to hit straight and play as you go. Plan each shot and make THAT shot. Get to green according to your birdie plan and you'll either sink the putt or 2 putt for par. If you miss a shot to the green hopefully it will be par or bogie. Make a plan, execute the plan and the score will come.
