- The 2018 Planes of Fame airshow had a nice variety of warbirds represented during the pacific theater flight demo!! Jason Somes flying the CAF's F8F Bearcat dropped in on Sunday on his way home from another airshow, joined the group and went on to put down some high power passes, as well as some nice acro to round off an amazing weekend.
What a treat seeing two p38's flying together !
Flying examples must be incredibly rare
In the entire world there's probably only a handful
I would love the chance to fly ANY of these planes. The P-38 has one HELL of a cool sound to it and so do the other planes.
The P38s sound so smooth
Great to see these planes still flying, and not just sitting in a museum somewhere. I come from a Grumman family (my dad worked for them), but damn, P-51s and P-38s are beautiful planes.
My favorite aircraft have always been those used in the Pacific by our Navy, Marine Corps and Army Air Corps during WW2. Just wonderful seeing them in the air and hearing those engines. Thanks for posting.
Fantastic video of our historic warbirds. Amazing that they are maintained and keep flying. Much thanks to all that keep them flying for all to see. Such beautiful pieces of history. Thanks for the video.
P38 was a good plane for the Pacific
No music.............thank you!
The music is the sound of those wonderful engines.
Hardly any music any way, at least someone didn't butcher it by adding any.
The roar of those engines is music to my ears!
And no announcer screeching over the PA system. Much appreciated.
@@NazarethCityLimits Concour Eric.
If P-51's aren't the most badass thing to ever fly... Saw plenty of A-1's strafing in Vietnam, but nothing beats the P-51
The p-38 Lightning and all the fighters of world war 2 are my favorite planes
So that includes the Hurricane, Mosquito, Spitfire, Boomerang, i-16, La-9, Beaufighter, or just that American crap?
Forked tail devil 😈
MY FAVES TOO !
BEAUTIFUL BIRDS OF FLIGHT.
Everybody wanna see the 109
Dang love those P-38's!!!
oh man, i love the bearcat
Craigslist model A Ford cars
P40 warhawk
Right..
Japan had no chance.
It's like a Sports Car for the air.
Japan messed with the bull and they got the horns!
Awesome, no music just just piston engines converting AVgas to noise.
Ya mean converting avgas to music, right?
Cuando un sonido te gusta es agradable eso es como música especialmente cuando a un soldado venían en su ayuda
Exactly. And this, my opinion, comes from a full time professional musician and composer who has scored for film. (myself) The sight & sound of propeller aircraft IS the music. No need to accompany it with the usual sentimental crap or electronic syntho crap. I wish more videos like this would leave out music & let the intrinsic value of the subject matter shine on it's own.
I believe it was Gandhi who said "Truth needs no salesman other than itself"
Like beautiful women and bulbous automobiles from the 1940s & 50s, propeller aircraft from same era are stunning works of art.
This video makes me weep tears of joy.
@@VeganWithAraygun I have to agree. I watched an air show up in Santa Maria a few decades ago when Lefty Gardner (or was it Lucky?) performed at his home air field and the announcer wouldn't shut up. To make it even worse, he didn't know what the heck he was talking about. One of the crew finally ran down there and told him to shut up because he was making an ass of himself and ruining the show for the spectators. I was trying to record the passes with a stereo cassette recorder. I got nothing worth saving.
AV gas to music!!
Ah...Chino airport!!! I LOVE IT THERE!!! And...if anyone old enough to remember the TV show "12 O'Clock High"...they filmed it there, and the sets are STILL THERE!!!!
I remember that show. My dad and I loved to watch it together. Love you daddy.
Great Show!
Some beautiful warbirds!
dude what about the SuperMarine Spitfire F Mk XIVe and the F4U-1C Corsair!
Fantastic! Love to see the old P38s!
Absolutely wonderful! Great capture! Awesome sounds! Don't need music, the engines provide all that. Thanks for posting.
The F8F Bearcat sounds almost like the Brittish Hawker Sea Fury. But if I'm not mistaking, it never saw combat during the WW2. The production started at 1944, when the war ended in 1945 and only little over 1200 was ever made.
sanakassara You are correct, the Bearcat never saw combat in WW2, there was a carrier full of them steaming towards Japan to fight but Japan surrendered so that ended their WW2 debut. They did see some combat in the French Indochina war though.
Wow, that’s the first time I saw a Red Tail Tuskegee Airmen livery on a P-51D. I’ve previously seen a Red Tail P-51B before.
Damn, they're serious when they say P-38 is quiet, not much different than turboprops.
Yep, didn't hear that bird until lead was flying.
So much history in one perfectly condensed video - thank you!
Great video. Would have like to have seen a Corsair in there. In my opinion the best looking warbird in the Pacific theater.
Thank God NO music except the lovely sound of MOTORS...Pity...no CORSAIR.
I'm digging that Bearcat...sharp looking, and it hustles.
This is pretty cool. Although there are some planes missing, such as the CORSAIR. I actually saw one at a airshow, beautiful plane. Also I believe the P47 Thunderbolt was eventually in the Pacific.
Question, in US shows are aerobatic routines banned or solos from types? As good as seeing aircraft flypast I do feel these shows are a bit sad compared to European shows where the planes really get shown off. That said a fine collection of types and nice to see the Bearcat being flown at the end as it should be.
Great show but where were the corsairs??
That's what I was thinking. ;-(
And no P-47, No B-17, no B-25s, etc. What they had were pretty and sounded wonderful but missing some really good planes.
⛲🐓
@@chrisbaker2903 The roster varies from year to year. There was a P-47 in the Euro flight in '18. They've had as many as five B-25s and five Corsairs at times. Just depends on what's flightworthy and who's up for flying them in from all over North America... and sometimes beyond.
corsairs and helldivers.
How do you have a video titled "Pacific Theater Flight" without the F4U Corsair?
My uncle flew P-38’s in the pacific theater in WWII. He was the inspiration for me being a Marine Corps F4 pilot in Vietnam. Just think of the massive firepower of a P38, 4 .50 Carl’s with a 20mm in the center. The great thing was that those guns were not aimed tor 600 feet like most
The P-38 is so quiet compared to the F8F... Thanks for sharing!
Back2RL that is what the TURBO does, acts like a muffler !!!
Whistling death
F85
@@petionville9359 Corsair
jack tattis that’s right but their whistling didn’t come from turbochargers
Awesome, especially the F6F Hellcat! From it's best views, the Hellcat is one of the best looking WWII Airplanes! Combat proven, safe flying!
All of those beautiful aircraft bring tears to my eyes.
W0 nonunoz
NICE VIDEO !!!!! One of if not the best video on You Tube of an airshow !!! The type and sub types labels are a really nice touch !!! Good job !!!
To see these aircraft still fly is so beautiful 😍❤️
Did the Bearcat see much action during the war?
Stanley Baker No, the Bearcats just missed seeing any action, there was a carrier full of them heading towards Japan when the Japanese surrendered.
Great video, The Planes of Fame airshow in Chino is such a great show. I haven’t missed one in 12 years, and I think you captured it perfectly. Thank you
I was at Chino '86. Got to meet Greg Boyington and George Gay.
P38 lightning, just perfect
those lightnings are so quiet compared to the other planes
Does the P-38 still have its functional turbochargers? (so quiet?) or have they been removed/ bypassed?
No, neither of these two have working turbo's, I know White 33 has the working turbos, and I believe one other has them as well, but I can't remember which one. These two just have the exhaust routed through the same area, that's why they're so quiet.
Those General Electric B series turbochargers are extremely rare and expensive to obtain, operate, and maintain.
My favourite plane p51 Mustang only Dream (from India)
Plane Porn
like the Curtis being in this one
Outstanding video!! Thank you for sharing. Take care.
Damn do I love those Bearcats!
They are a speedy beast, no?
The p-38, p-40, and p-51 really made their names in Europe as well.
Stephan; The P40 was a second stringer not a main player in Europe
The P-38 has to be the best looking plane in the bunch. Also flew like a dream 😁
One Mustang was a Red Tail. He was in Italy not in the Pacific Theater.
My father sometimes spoke of the air support missions overhead as a certain sound. I didn't always understand...but upon hearing these well tuned air frames, i think I gather what he was speaking of.
Love the sound of radial engine,,,don't get me wrong love the lighting,,and mustang also
god bless america. stand beside her and guide her.
Curt Stand beside you better than in front of you. You have a tendency to stab friends in the Back Vietnam comes to mind
what?
Man! These planes are so awesome! I'm going to try to be at all these shows!
Very nice. Thanks for posting. That Bearcat can growl and scream through the sky.
That Bearcat is just plain Badass!
P 38 aircraft model! A very good war machine! I 'd be proud to pilot one of them!
I can see that Bearcat is a particularly good fighter plane.
Jet No it cannot get above 40000ft it cannot dive past 0.75 and 4 x50s are not very good

We were last out of the gate but we came back with a vengeance .... Huzzah!!
Beautiful planes
I love the sound of those reciprocating piston engines! It’s nostalgic! 🇺🇸👍.
The P-38’s Allison engines sound quieter.
Flak Jack Ed Same Engine as the P-40 but in the P-38 it was combined with turbochargers. Thus, the exhaust noise is much quieter.
Thorsten_Küppers , I get it now. Thanks! 👍
OMG! Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected to see these planes flying again and well captured on film. Thank You.
Paul Dasen there is a spitfire and bf 109 at planes of fame if you would like to see it
That's not an F4F-5, it is a F4F-3.!!
In the -5, the rear side windows, after the sliding canopy, had been eliminated.!!!
Kudos to you for such a good video,
AND THANK GOD, NO MUSIC.!!!
For us, the aircraft lovers, the engine noise it's our music.!!!
@ A Rodrigues. I think you mean F6F-5 / F6F-3.
I kept reading and hearing that the lightnings were quieter due to the turbo-superchargers, but this video really puts it into prospective. You can really hear those turbos sing though!
I wish I were there. What a GREAT display!!
I do believe I have died and gone to Heaven (tho I am sure it is a temporary placement). Great video, great sound, so many great planes. I know today's performers leave all of these in the dust, but the sight and sound is incomparable. Thanks so much.
Where were the F-4U's?
Shame the Corsair didn’t go up
that hellcat and the lightning had a lot of kills
Those Mustangs were still in use during the Korean War, right?
Indeed. The South Koreans used them. Watch a movie called " battle cry".
they used them in vietnam as spotter planes if im right BIRDDOGS

Is there anything cooler than an Avenger spreading its wings
one of my faves heavy hulking and wonderful radial piston sound!
My uncle flew one in WW2. Before Pearl Harbor he was in Burma with the Flying Tigers. A captain at 19 years old. After the war he flew in the Berlin Airlift. No airline would hire him when he left the Army, no highschool diploma. He joined up in 1938, 16 years old.
What a shame..sorry to hear that.. he survived wartime lucky him. Thomas, Denmark
Mike Btrfld flying tigers are all heroes!
My great uncle flew with the flying tigers!!!!
Looks like The Evergreen Aviation museum sold its P-38.
Νο Μusic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....too good!!!!!!!!!!............Awesome video!!!!
Hate those fake Japanese aircraft.
NOW YOU SEE I LOVE PLANES AND I LOVE HISTORY AND YOU SHOW ME WW2 PLANES
Thank you very much👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤤😇😂😂😂😂😂
Me too
bro you just posted cringe
Beautiful music to my ears.
Excellent video and sound!
Heavy metal thunder at Chino. Awesome!
Am I the only one that thinks a shiny warbird in the original paint scheme is wierd? (the FM-2) I don't mean the polished aluminum birds i just think the wartime aircraft wouldn't have been sun mirrors. Thank you for the video!
They weren’t but the gloss is way easier to keep clean.

All beautiful aircraft. Been to many air shows on the East Coast and never see the P-38 my husband's favorite. Perhaps someday we can get to an air show in Chino, CA.
Saludos hermanos frens'''! Broters! ALL family! Águilas de acero en los cielos 😂!!! Bery good! War thunder!!!the game and reality!! Congratuletions! Saludos de ARGENTINA!! BIRD OF STEEL'''!!! 💪👍👌😀
That reallytested my aircraft recognition, but at 91 I think I did pretty well.
Me too, and I'm 91 as well. In the ATC I could recognise 350 types of aircraft.
@@ianmacdonald6882 you two are the same person...
That was great camera work !
why the p38 is so quite?
Pretty much all other fighters from that era had straight pipes which made them pretty loud, you'll notice that the P-38 engine cowling is nice tight with no exhaust holes, the P-38 exhaust runs from the engine all the way back to the top of the 'tail booms' where it exits through a turbo, thus making it like a long muffler.
@@Voodoo1650 got it,thanks。
the P-38 is so quiet
Thanks. Great Video and Planes.
Love Love, Love Warbirds.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful!
Lots of PW-powered birds in the Pacific Theater! They sound beautiful.
This is a suberb footage, both visual and sound. Thank you for that! Wish I could fly one of those one day.
Only the sound is enough
Nice video. Beautiful warbirds. To think that back in the day they were lethal weapons piloted by brave men
I like the KittyHawk the best..but them P51s look sharp as a razor!
Voodoo1650: US planes of fame you mean The RAAF also flew Spitfires, Beaufighters, and Mossies in the Pacific campaign well S/W Pacific the larger conflict
Joper q bonito!¡!!
Great video, great Planes Of Fame Team I mean that!
don't you all find it amazing how all these lovely old warbirds are so eager to get off the ground?
We are blessed that so many people have dedicated a part of themselves so. They brought this into being so we can experience history. Beautiful .
Wow, a Dauntless no less, I doubted any where flying now. But that's not a "Replica" Zero, it's not the same airframe so it's a "Mock" Zero.
Yes, this is one of the Tora Tora type builds where they modified an AT-6 to look similar to a Zero. The museum does have and fly the worlds only original with original engine, but they didn't fly it for this display.
What a beautiful display of so many fine planes of W W 2, many types and varieties. They sound and look so good, noble, striking, quite lovely on the wing, free and full of purpose.
Nice videoing !
