I restored one of these machines for a guy. They are awesome ! fun to ride and the sound they make is out of this world. I scared the crap out of some dresser rides with it when I was warming it up at a gas station . A Real Motorcycle that is what they are. Beautiful BSA you have . j-d

Many manufacturers have applied the street scrambler look to various models. It doesn't make them go any faster and I would never take a bike like that through any mud but it makes them look even cooler if possible. Lovely bike.

@@richardandrich9566 Probably was having been tweaked a bit. I bet you wish you still had it.

I have ridden a large number of British twins during their heyday, including my own much-loved Royal Enfield TT Interceptor 750, but I will say here that the best all-around one I rode that wasn't mine was my friends' 1970 BSA Firebird Scrambler. It had a 4 gallon tank. It had a buttery-smooth yet torquey motor. It had one of the best motorcycle seats I ever sat on. I kept thinking as I rode it, "If this bike had rearsets and a flat bar or clip-ons, it'd be a great sports bike". Sadly, my friend, after he had it for to years, put (1) a "king and queen" saddle on it, put slugs in the front end (6",) , ape hangers and painted the tank Captain America style. Ruined the bike, but hey, it was his.

Caribman ~ Get yourself a 1968 BSA Spitfire Mk IV. It's the same chassis and 650cc dual-carb motor as the Firebird Scrambler, but with low pipes like a Lightning, Borrani alloy wheels, alloy levers, and the same great seat. They came with "Western" bars which were a bit higher, but put a low sportbike type or clubman bar on it and you've got your dream bike! I have this exact model too!

@@HumberNorton Sorry, but most of what you note are actually drawbacks rather than pluses. The high pipes on the FBird gave you more ground clearance, and the FBird had a 4 gallon tank. I'd rather put the rearsets on the FBird myself! Too bad the BSA geniuses decided to put that peanut tank on the Spit rather than the 5 gal. Gold Star-styled tank that was on it everywhere else....or the Thruxton styled mufflers with the flat sides to give the ground clearance you'd get, well, if you used the Firebird....

@@caribman10 Those high pipes on the 'bird are gorgeous but impractical and do not breath as well as the downswept pipes. What you need is a Spitfire with the big alloy UK tank, Clubman's bars and a set of upswept Dunstalls or Gold Star "twitter" silencers on the machine. I'd not fit modern tyres as they look totally out of place. A fresh set of Dunlop TT-100 K-81s are more than enough grip and lean angle for this machine's chassis. If you drag your pipes with those, you've already gone off...
