It can seem pretty overwhelming, but it's important to keep and open mind. There's lots of confusing stuff out there but there's no reason to try and rush it if you're interested.
There's also lots of people who will gladly explain all sorts of shit to you.
i don't follow politics at all, it's a fucked mess. if you discuss politics with people alot of times it'll just end up in a fight, people get so connected to their political agenda it becomes a part of their identity, fuck that. it's cool if you can talk with another person and disagree, then go for a beer but unfortunately it just doesn't end up like that, especially nowadays in the age of social media. how many times have we seen articles written about a single person, where one side is saying they're part of the other, then another article is saying the opposite. it just ends up being a toxic tribal cesspool, a "my group vs your group" kind of thing, especially in the US where they only have 2 people as viable options every election. fuck that

I do haaaaaaaate that every single thing is now labled liberal/conservative. Maybe its just how I grew up but we had opinions for each situation....there were plenty "liberal" things we agreed with and plenty "conservative" things so nobody was labeled. Is there a label like that if for example you agree abortion should be illegal, but you're ok with gay marriage...or just any conflicting lib/conservative viewpoints?
people's political preferences still exist on a spectrum. but since the US has a two-party system, the issues of the day get looked at through that lens. the idea that abortion should be illegal IS a conservative view. the idea that gay marriage should be legal IS a liberal view. whether you want to identify yourself as a liberal or conservative is totally up to you, it just comes down to which party you feel is most aligned with your beliefs, and who you end up voting for. i honestly don't think it's possible for someone to be split exactly 50/50 because the reasons for holding liberal views and the reasons for holding conservative views are just SO fundamentally different.
there are some people who call themselves "centrists" or "classical liberals" or but in my opinion they're really just conservatives who don't want to admit they're conservative for one reason or another
