  • Two years ago, Veronica Ewers was a name no one outside of her local team had heard of. Two seasons later, she’s earned top tens in the sport’s biggest races. But Veronica still feels like an outsider, and that gnaws at her sense of belonging.
Watch the latest Explore film “Finding Balance” presented by Wahoo to hear from Veronica as she traverses the relationships between identity and performance, solitude and community, and searches for balance before the Tour de France Femmes.

    About EF Education-TIBCO-SVB:
In 2004, Linda Jackson started working with a local women’s cycling team in Palo Alto, California. In 2006, Jackson asked a sponsor for $100,000 to get her new team to a few national races. The partner had $5,000. Her response?
    “I’ll take it.”
And brick by brick over the last 17 years, Jackson, a former investment banker turned Canadian professional racer, built a team to compete on a national level and provide meaningful support to the next generation of professional women cyclists.

We don’t talk about mental health enough in sports. Thank you for sharing this to feel like we are not alone ❤

Man EF, you folks are the most genuine and lovable team in pro cycling. I hope you can keep that attitude alive and I hope you'll have many decades of success ahead of you. Pro cycling needs a team like yours badly.

"I tend to isolate myself but crave wanting to be with people." Damn, this is me, too. Veronica, thanks so much for saying what I'm feeling. Your self-reflection on whether that's a strength of yours hits VERY close to home for me. You are amazing.

Veronica is extremely candid in this video--I think she's a champion. She should trust and believe in herself 100%---she definitely has all of the qualities of being a true hero and champion, especially in the hearts and minds of all her friends and fans! You are very much ❤ 🧡 💛 💚 💙 💜 Veronica!!!

I didn't expect to cry but her we are. This is achingly beautiful and the message is so important.
You've got a new fan, Veronica. Keep listening for the chering!

As someone who has a daughter in Moscow Middle School first let me say how excited she is to watch you race and read about you. That same daughter also likes to compete in sports and worries about many of the same things you express here. For her this video is very reassuring. Thank you. The one thing I'll add as someone who has watched this sport for many years, if you are there you belong.

The tone and pacing of the film is wonderful. It is such an emotionally vulnerable portrait of Veronica, and a compelling illustration of the feelings of isolation and loneliness that some of these athletes face. Bravo to the filmmakers and Veronica! I’ve become a fan and I’m rooting for your speedy recovery!

I can't believe how you guys and girls keep producing these gorgeous, intimate pieces of art, protraying the human condition within this polarizing sport of cycling. Truly thankful for your creativity!🙏

Hi Veronica, It's refreshing to see the actual human beyond the race, beyond the bike; and the human being that I see is strong, beautiful and inspiring... Thank you 😊

"I think that's why I fear finding balance of being happy or more happy & mentally in a better place or do I want to be the best bike racer in the world."?
She knows, Our greatest strength is also our greatest weakness.
Thus "Finding balance" is a great title for this.
That is what champions often ask themselves.
Bringing mental health to light is something which is needed however, placing it under a spotlight in hopes of normalizing it may in fact amplify it beyond healthy.

I think cycling is the most polarising sport, one day you're good smashing goals the next day you're down in the dumps. You can ride with a friend or a club or you can just be alone for hours on end. You can be in the most beautiful scenery or stuck on your trainer going nowhere and no one understands really. Great video

Another excellent video highlighting an EF Education rider. I have lived with anxiety and depression for years and it's not easy, especially as an introvert. I have to make the choice to want to be around people because I know if I stay to myself my mental health suffers. My husband works a crazy schedule so we don't have a lot of time together and I stay connected with my family, my church family, and I am a parttime caregiver for my elderly neighbor. It really is a choice and if I choose wisely I don't suffer from depression and anxiety, I simply live with them. There is a difference! Good luck the rest of your season, Veronica. I know you crashed out of the TDFF and hope you recover fully and quickly. Take care!

Women are not men and so women cycling has not to be like men cycling. I absolutely enjoy watching women races and I am happy that those strong women show other facets for cycling. chapeau!

Thx for honesty. We all have been there for sure. I and all my friends find prayer to Jesus to be a game changer for times of loneliness. Whether on a tough climb on the bike or a long walk or while having a hot cup of coffee, prayer to Jesus gives life in the midst of honest loneliness. Again, thx for your honesty

Let me say this the devil is a liar. This video while great it did concern me because she is so young. As people we’ve gotta bind anxiety & bind depression. I speak life over you and I’ll say GET AROUND SOME PEOPLE ASAP when you get a chance go to the mall. You also meet some others in the peloton just say hi and hey good ride find out what other ladies are in an area near you and start training with them. Also I’ll say this life passes fast so please enjoy EVERY MOMENT of it the highs and the lows. Because it’s over in a blink of an eye. I’m praying for your mental health you’re already great regardless if you ever win again or not bike racing. It’s a very difficult thing to do I’m a regular person who rides for health and fitness and it’s super tough 😂 so the fact you get to ride for a living trust me you’re in the 1% 😂 enjoy it sis 🫂🤗😊
