  • It’s been 33 years since women last stood on the startline at the Tour de France. This year, they returned to show the race just what it’s been missing. With a powerful squad packed full of character, EF Education-TIBCO-SVB had six spots to fill. We followed the team behind the scenes throughout their journey to the Champs-Elysees and beyond, experiencing the ups and downs, tears and triumphs that surround the biggest race in the world.
    ---
    About EF Education-TIBCO-SVB:
In 2004, Linda Jackson started working with a local women’s cycling team in Palo Alto, California. In 2006, Jackson asked a sponsor for $100,000 to get her new team to a few national races. The partner had $5,000. Her response?
    “I’ll take it.”
And brick by brick over the last 17 years, Jackson, a former investment banker turned Canadian professional racer, built a team to compete on a national level and provide meaningful support to the next generation of professional women cyclists.

1:36 Hard to watch old footage of Jeannie Longo, winner of three Women TdF in the late 1980s, being so candidly and publicly insulted by Marc Madiot (French road champ that year) in the interview. And also present, top professionals Laurent Fignon, Stephen Roche, Jean-François Bernard and Pedro Delgado (who are all seen chuckling) ... you have to wonder if any of them had the courage to defend Longo and speak positively about woman's professional racing in that time, late 1980s.

I watched the women’s Paris Roubaix and I loved it just as much as I do the mens race.

Very hard to take Marc Madiot seriously after watching this. How is he still working in the sport?

The history of women in cycling is an embarrassment to society as a whole. It's a shame that a handful of self riotous men could make it so hard for women. I hope things are changing for the better and that old ideologies get buried. I didn't know how bad it was until I watched a few documentaries on the history of women in cycling.

Couldn't believe what I was hearing during the first couple of minutes of this video.😯 Someone needs to give that guy a good slap.🤨 'you are ugly' he said, the question is should he even be riding a bike with eyesight that bad.🙄

why do ppl think its the fans, spectators, or general public who dont and should support womens cycling? the difference between mens and womens cycling is the ppl who participate. you can assume the difference in the market is directly related to the difference in the men vs women who participate and are willing to spend 10's of thousands on cycling gear just to flex on ppl who done care. have you ever heard of a man making his wife sell her bike??? yea me either. so for all the women who want to grow their sport the key is to get more girls into it. its also very common to see the mens' side of the sport carry the womens' end...
