Remco couldn't follow in the first place and then destroying himself to get back isn't how you're going to win the Tour. He's still got a lot to learn from the 2 masters.

@@Dennis_510 because of the paris olympics, this years tdf is mostly not in france and will not be ending in paris for the first time since 1903. Like @Knofris said french riders have no performed this well for the last few years

Vingegaard has trained much better for the Tour than Pogacar. That is easy to see today. Thus, Vingegaard will win the tour.

And knowing that Pogacar has been 1 week off his altitude training due to corona + x days on a roller inside and x days off altitute training due to death in family, then its pretty easy to see that Vingegaard's preparations has been much better. Normally Pogacar would have went alone over the top today, and he expected it as well him self. You could also say though, that it is based on UAE team, as they suck and too many captains. If Pogacar had his Giro team with him, he would have taken 18 bonus seconds at the top. Just to also let you know, that this means that Vingegaard will win the tour.
@@narakdk So in short what you’re saying is: a short attack on stage 2 is enough to predict a three week grand tour and make assumptions about their fitness, got it.

There’s no way any other rider would be riding the way Vingegaard did today after such serious injuries and no racing at all for 3 months.

I will not accuse him of doping, but I will say the Pogacar put on a pretty good performance last year after not having raced. Different injuries, Vingegaard much more serious.

@@walkbox6596 Agree, thats why UAE have failed in their theory crafting. The only way they can stop being a global fool is that they dare to use them to attack Tuesday, but I dont believe they either dare or will do it.
Pogi flicked his elbow at Vingegaard there at the end (4:34), prior to Evenpoel catching the group, clearly wanting him to take the lead to hold off Remco. When Jonas refused, Pogi stopped hammering it, and that's why he refused to contest the sprint. It's unclear what Jonas' strategy was there at the end; either he doesn't consider Remco to be a real threat, or he is saving all of his energy for the third week of the Tour.
He explained it in the interview. He didn’t take a pill right then because pogi would have attacked him right after. So, he waited for the descent to take a turn b

Jonas just lets Tadej destroy himself for when he inevitably crumbles in the end. Same strategy as normal.

Jonas is too scared to race like a man. Though that is how he is going to win the Tour for the 3rd time. By using up Pogacar's own strength against him. The same story as the last two years. Very predictable and boring and I hate to watch it.

Bluff? They Said Jonas would not ride if he was not competitive - he is. This was a relative Easy mountain stage with only few hard kilometers.
Thank you people are acting like it was some HUGE climb. We will see what shape jonas is in when we get to those hard mountains and pogi start punching and accelerating one two three. This tour is by far pogis he will win in a dominant fashion but only because jonas situation.
What people dont realise jonas was in the end phase of his preparation going into the torm peak form when he got injured in that race. So being down with injury for a few weeks was not a huge setback as u dont lose those hours in the legs so easily cuz u havent raced or trained. So when he got back in the back the high intensity training for 1.5 months to 2 months is basiclly enough to kick him back into the 70 to 80 procent form with the hope.he can hang on and get even better in the end.
With such stupid tactics, Tadej cannot get Tura. Jonas outplayed him tactically like a small child.

@@davidbuck-y5y Tadej's attack made all his teammates lose time to Jonas and Remco. This is going to weaken the weapon of UAE being able to use them to attack Jonas. Also, Pogacar is in yellow now, which seems like a good thing but is kinda a curse at this stage of the race. Jonas has the same time as Pogacar but without any of the hassle.

Interesting that Roglic is not competitive at all. Remco will have nothing in the mountains. It will be a duel between Tadej and Jonas, let's see how well he recovered from the fall. This stage was no indicator at all. Wait for Tuesday.

Not sure why Tadej spent all that energy to tow Jonas. Also I thought GC riders didn't want the jersey early because their team now has to ride at the front to defend it.
They don't have to defend it. Tadej is still busy making irrational decisions which will cost him like normal.
@@drdumbo9124 it was a good call to test everyone on such a short climb, every GC rider had do dig deep today, not just pogi. Only mistery is why vingegaard didnt do harder turns at the front, if he had put more effort into it they could have left remco 15-20sec behind and roglic would already be down 40sec or even more. Now they are all still close together.
@@dynamo6735 His team should have pulled the break out in, thus he would have had 18 bonus seconds and perhaps a stage win. Now he tired himself while he pulled Vingegaard away from his own other captains. Embarrising UAE strategy, but thats usual in the tour, but boring and predictable. Thus, Vingegaard will win the tour easy.
@@narakdk why burn the whole team to only potencially get 18sec + yellow, maybe vingegaard can steal a few and then you burned whole team for visma/vingegaard which is the worst thing ever, just testing everyone on a short climb was totally fine imo. Turned out they had a solid gap over the top and could gain on others as well but vingegaard didnt want to.
The teams don't really have to defend the yellow jersey when a contender has it early. It is not uncommon for a GC contender to get the yellow jersey in the first handful of stages and then "give it" to a non-GC rider after a stage or two. The teams just hide the intention a little bit and don't ride as hard as they could rather than sitting up to let another team take the jersey.

tadej dropped two liege winners on that final attack both of whom raced the dauphine...jonas who doesnt race one days followed easily never breathing heavy...makes on sense if he can give that effort that he has never contested liege or lombardia which hes raced.. Like froome never won a one day but i july he could follow sagan on hilly stages
Jonas has been in those races? But that was before he really found his stride as a rider. He has also said that he plans to contest those races again in the future. He is expected to race Worlds this year if he's in good enough shape and his wife doesn't give birth around that time.
