My favourite Lego set, ever. I got this as a gift when I was a kid, maybe around 1998-ish. I remember liking it a lot, playing with it and having fun. But of course, as time went on I used the parts at one point or another to build something else and that was that. Flash forward to around 2012 and I am going through my old Lego stuff in order to sell most of it. For some reason this specific set stands out and I actually re-build it together with my mum. I thought it looked cool and so I didn't sell it, just place it into a corner of my room. A few years after that my mum gets cancer and dies, but to this day this set still stands in what is now my office here at home and whenever I look at it, I am reminded of my dear mum :')
In Relation to the used bricks, that's a huge bataillon. Normally they would put 2-3 Guys, 1 prisoner and one Ghost or something more disapointing in it . A set with a simillar number of soldiers is the later sea-dragon set of the black knights (5 knights, i think). And i was often disappointed when i compared the ads and catallogues pictures with the actual sets.
I really think Lego could do a new, similar set that's memorating this build, by building it in a more modern fashion. Making the "tree" look more like an actual tree and so on. There is so much potential for this thing!
This is my favorite Forestmen set - not that it’s spectacular, but it’s so well-designed for its size. And has so many mini-figures for this sized set!!
I managed to score this set a few days ago and got this for $250.00 in Australian dollars. After watching this video a few weeks ago, after you mentioned how rare to the Minifigure with the black accent and the black plume was, I couldn't ignore it, regardless of inflation I still had to get it. Every pieces on my set appeared to be still box fresh from 1987 that even puts Rick Ansley "Never Give You Up" in my head even looking at it.
Oh I loved that set! All of it. I think the brown horse was a new thing as well. I miss my little green men. Oh btw all the castles were as ascetic back then. Somehow it didn't seem too funny 😅
Black Forestman is one I would love to get one day. I do think that Hideout is a better set (that is why we had it re-maked) but this one has better figures for sure and LEGO did realize at that time minifigs and story telling is what makes their sets so attractive.
Managed to build this today... jus missing all the minifigs apart from plain green guy. All their hats and feathers are missing too... Gonna be expensive.
One of the old castle sets that I have the most memories of. I’m glad I re-purchased it about 10 years ago when I had a bit of a Lego nostalgia trip. I think it’s complete but I best go check it has that black feather now 😂 With the alternate builds, as a kid I could never figure out how to actually build them given there are no instructions. I’m guessing they only ever use pieces from the set, so in theory you could build them? Or would you need other pieces too?
To me it seems odd to have 6 minifigs in such a small set with such a small place for them to actually hide. I would have changed some men to tables and beds. And then there could have been a set of four forestmen (like there was some sets with 6 spacemen) to have much cheaper feathers for future (and more forestmen for those wanting to build an army).
I think I have this set and it must have been one of the first sets I ever got because I don't remember opening it. I just always remember having Robin Hood and his merry men. I must been like 4 years or maybe a little younger. And this doesn't have any of the more unique parts from the forrestmen like bridge, backpack, shields, etc... so I knew I never had the other sets.
I'm wondering if my set is an error, I got 2 all green minifigure and 1 of the red minifigure. Instead of the other way around. This is the only forestmen set I have. It's been together since I bought from the store when it came out.
6:00 that's the wrong treasure chest for the set. It shouldn't have the slits on the back and the hinge for the lid is a little bit smaller. I checked my collection of like 20 treasure chests and I only had 1 of this type.
Shame about that black feather, I can’t find any of my feathers from like ten-twenty years AFTER this set so I can imagine how many older feathers went missing.

Aww cute, but so sorry for your loss. Must be great to have that set to remind you of your mom😊
I built this when I was a kid, and I still have this castle at my grandma's house.
Aww! You managed to keep it!
6 minifigures in one set is always awesome to see and even better having 5 that are unique.

Lol, the ghosts and skeletons were super cool! when you got the first one....
@@richardkryscin3223the sea serpent is a great set

I very much like the sound of the sets' being built.
Very relaxing ASMR sounds. :-) (y)

Annnd. Of course, I'm missing the black plume for "John Little". In fact, the ONLY piece I'm missing for this set. Dammit.
Yeah I'm not too surprised. These little feathers are usually the first to go, hence their high price.
So many sets on Bricklink are missing the plume, even some of the sets that are listed as "Complete". They're over $30 CAD 😵💫

Wow! These forest men are awesome and I’m surprised it has 6 figures. I really want this set know lol

Excellent review. Thank you.
this is the first castle set that I recall using the secret boulder door. The concept has been reused many times since.

Still have it. One of my favorite sets of all time
This is the only forestmen set I don't have. Bums me out that I missed out on this one.
Contrastly: it was the only one I had.
That's a great set!
the lego resell prices are ridiculous man
they pretty much doubled during covid unfortunately
nice set! No furnishings for the forestmen!
They only hang out here between heists, you see. Just until things cool off.
That's how they rolled back then 😁

I see there was abasket so i must have lost it pretty quickly

Yes the chest he has is the newer type. Should be the older.
The basket on his back is to carry his marijuana harvest.

I had this when it came out in 87 .
