What a fun and beautiful build. It's so simple, but elegantly effective. Good commentary
We do not have the box or the instructions, but seeing the target and other pieces, I realized we have this set, thank you. Now we can put it together.
I had this set as a kid in the 90's. It was my favourite set and I was so glad it got a much needed update last year as a GWP. Really sad to say I've sold the original, but it was the 88 version as I kept the connector for the studs and used it as an extra bit of gold.
I remember putting it together as a 8-10 year old. It was AMAZING. And now it looks great as a display piece (I even ordered autumn set of leaves to change the mood a bit).
Leaves arrived. Autumn version looks very cool!
Really funny pointing out the forestmen trees being black, and the DARK forest trees being brown, LEGO names be whacky sometimes.
Dark grey also first started appearing in the accessories, just like brown, before coming more widespread, seems related
My one and only forestmen set is the river fortress I also found with box and instructions at a second hand store! Very lucky on that
Yeah, they didn't use a lot of brown studded pieces back then. It always seemed to me that the brown pieces and accessories were a bit softer, less brittle and more prone to damage than standard colored pieces. Maybe that's just my subjective experience, but it could explain why lego was hesitant to use this color.
@Tony Sutton I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm trying it out now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Such a great set i love the forestmen theme
There's plenty more coming too!
Back then, they didn't have ANY brown construction pieces, only accessories really. Brown pieces starting appearing a few years later. I also think this might be one of the first sets, that the 3x3 big black diagonal corner piece appeared in.
Yeah, all new colour additives affect the properties of the plastic and maybe Lego hadn't really figured out how to get good quality construction pieces in brown yet.
That set's great! Where do you get all these vintage lego sets?
Either eBay, Bricklink, or Atlanta Brick Co.
Oh ok, Atlanta brick co is awesome! I've been twice and I loved it!
