    "Where do MULEs come from?" - asks every child in the Dominion at one point or another. Which is when a helpful parent points them to the Dominion Planetary Deployment Field Manual Section 3, Chapter 14: Deployment And Use of the Standard Issue Orbital Manufacturing Unit Mk II. It tells you all about how Orbital Commands gather and transfer energy to the orbital manufacturing unit, which uses that energy, as well as its own mineral cache, replenished from asteroids and the like, to quickly produce MULEs or extra supplies and lauch them down to the surface in an orbital drop-pod. Alternatively, the orbital unit can use its main reflector to direct that energy pulse down to a point on the battlefield, where the sudden energy shower reveals enemy units and structures.

    My theory: the players are commanders aboard capital ships. While they duke it out in an evenly-matched atmospheric battle, their ground forces below try to seize tactical positions. Thus, Terran ground forces can call down mules from the capital ship which is otherwise too heavily engaged to assist.
    Yes, I'm sure you could poke holes in that, but hey, best I've got.

    • @asdfasdf-mn8iu
      @asdfasdf-mn8iu 2 роки тому

      I mean, a ship in orbit around a planet can hardly assist the battle on the ground anyway, so it doesn't even need to be heavily engaged. Also, thinking that perhaps a lot of battles like these are fought in different locations all over the planet, they can barely do more than throw down a few robots here and there and scan some locations from orbit. Protoss also warp in their units from somewhere else.
      I never quite got the reasons for battles though. Sure, if you don't mine out the whole map, there are resources to be had there, but in a mined-out-map-scenario, you'd only win ground really, or perhaps the things in the background of the maps are to be conquered? Would be funny if you got extra XP or points or whatever at the end of the game for minerals and gas that were not used up during the match.

    • @johnnyspliff4900
      @johnnyspliff4900 Рік тому

      Very late but pretty solid argument actually, and it seems to be how Blizzard explains a lot of things in the campaign when it comes to orbital drops, the units aren't scaled to their actual sizes in the game for practical reasons too, if its a capital ship along that scale it would make sense to be just above orbit, not able to engage unless for defense but to have commanders, fire control, logistics, surveillance, communications etc. ready for ground forces and its air support. I imagine if we ever reach the point of star wars we will probably travel similar to a navy so a capital ship will be in a fleet or something like a carrier group today that will most likely have ships that can strike the ground, but munitions are expensive and will usually only be used when you fail, and your position gets overrun. even in the campaign sometimes I feel like a captain who who was voluntold to do Jims dirty work, the drunk bastard

    As for warp prisms, ever notice how they're not bulky like medivacs or dropalords? They don't need to be. They don't really contain all the units they're transporting. They just warp them in and out of the battlefield, as necessary. Warp them where? No one knows. Each time you load a unit in there, it gets warped to a random point in the Universe. This is usually quite safe, as 99.9999999999999999958% of the Universe is just empty space. There your High Templars can chill for a while, safe from EMPs and stuff until they're needed again. What happens if the warp prism gets shot down while "carrying" units? No one knows that either. Some say that as the warp field collapses, they get violently recalled and they die an agonizing death in the inferno of collapsing matter and energy. Others say they get left out there, all alone in intergalactic space... either way, it's not a nice way to go.

    Orbital command stations have an associated satellite (this is where the "orbital" part of the name comes in) with an automated factory and sensor suite which is how they perform both their scan and call down functions. This facility builds up enough energy and parts over time to eventually send down either a mule, a supply expansion, or to operate a high powered sensor sweep of an area.

    The mules come from some ship above not necessarily the Hyperion, as the lore between these kinds of battles are that they aren't exactly sanctioned by the swarm or dominion or daelaam. Each player may as well be a faction, so its a battlecruiser in orbit likely fighting the opposing fleet

  • @Fairnzelia

    8:16 Mules topic, I'd think that since it becomes an orbital command they call them in from orbit. Like a satellite that can drop missles in real life we have satellites that drop supplies such at depot attachments and mules once they have enough power to send a signal to request the support. or a scan from the satellite.

    • @Fairnzelia

      @lowkoTV if you read this, i think the warp prism (if you have ever wondered why you can't unwarp a unit back to Auir) De-materialises the unit to warp it into itself, then when it warps down it re-materialises it like Startrek warp ins, they're in a state of matter that the EMP can't touch em.

    My personal theory regarding where mules come from is that beside the battle on the planet surface there is another massive space battle, in wich there are a lot of other ships that players cant use becouse they are engaged in combat on the orbit, but after building an orbital comand center terrans can request backup from them by sending them coordinates to the places they want mules to be dropped. this also explains the suply depo and even scan, where orbital comands use energy to exchange the information throug the enemy radio jaming. this theory would also explain some of the protos shinanigance. It even has backing in one of the starcraft books, where they explained that all sides of battle start from scrath becouse the rest of their army is fighting in orbit.

  • @ThePeteriarchy
    @ThePeteriarchy 4 роки тому

    One can assume that the commander, executor, or brood mother are all flying in orbit on a much larger vessel with the extra resources like mules or the troops being warped into protoss gates, hence the players being able to view the battlefield the way we do, and that's likely why losing a CC, nexus, or hive doesn't cause an immediate defeat, since we're not in there.

    Regarding your vision, Lowko, men's vision evolved mostly to spot moving targets, as this would be more efficient in hunting. So if an object that's right in front of you isn't moving at all, it's not easy to spot compared to when it then starts moving again. Women, classically being less involved in hunting, have better peripheral vision as that helped with taking care of children, to make sure they didn't do anything stupid.

    Mules and Supply depot drops don't have to be from the Hyperion. But they are being dropped from some sort of support ship in high orbit. I mean, consider how the Terran marines arrived there... by ship. Why aren't they providing stronger fire support? They could be busy fighting/evading another enemy Battlecrusier/Carrier/Zerg Hiveship (or whatever they're called). It doesn't even have to be a Battlecrusier; one is free to imagine any large industrialized vessel that ferried those particular humans here.
    Dawn of War's Space Marine and Imperial Guard factions had the same thing (Tau to some degree); buildings would drop from orbit and be assembled on the ground. Unit construction often included a drop-pod or drop-ship landing on the building's pad just before construction finished. The story reason for why they couldn't provide more support was that each faction was still busy fighting for control of the orbital layer and if they didn't time their drops properly they risked being shot down by the enemy. Orks would just drop of a ball of scrap from orbit. Chaos would summon most of their stuff directly from a portal to Warp.

    Support it with heavy mining equipment and supplies.
    Ground force wins, because they are brave soldiers of the Dominion and require no offensive support from the fleet.
    Ground forces lose, because the commander was an incompetent hack and the battle would have been lost even with the fleet joining the fray.
    Just standart Dominion protocol and tactics.

    The MULE is still in the prototype stage and has a limited battery life. The Dominion Fleet deploys these machines via drop pod. Once deployed, a MULE will collect resources three times faster than an SCV-a fact that some SCV pilots don't take kindly to hearing. This was possible because they can haul loads of such weight that would bring an SCV to a standstill.
    The Dominion Fleet (a.k.a. Dominion Armada or Dominion Navy) is the space naval arm of the Terran Dominion military. A portion of the Armada's initial strength derived from former Terran Confederacy units.

    Sure it may be weird that mules come from nowhere, but I'd say turrets are even worse, since they're literally about the same size as the raven, and it can put out four of them.

    I think mules and depots are held as a contingency. You'd imagine the terrans know of whatever upcoming battle they're about to take part in and there probably just some miscellaneous ship of some kind designed to lend support. As far as the cc requirement for mules, orbital drops are an exact science I'd wager so they probably need the cc for pinpointing drop location. Buildings require far less precision, especially depots, because all they do is hold shit. There's a lot about the theoretical logistics of orbit drops in 40k XD

    Seeing and recognizing - is not the same. You see a picture, but it takes a while to recognize what is on it. Keeping track of stuff is harder for you - since you observing someone else game.

    Ver high templar you say? That unit would be too OP.
    Abilities: Can't attack (obviously)
    Shitstorm: Causing brain damage by nonsense gibberish. Higher damage output to more advanced (more intelligent) units
    Unstoppable hunger: Feeds on both live and energy of enemy units for a long period of time.
    "Want some ganja, man?": Cause erratic and unpredictable movement and attack of enemy units. Cause friendly fire.
    "Make love, not war": Stun units for short period of time. Spreads itself on enemy units close to unit debilitated by this spell...
