If you enjoy the show, and liked what Rob described the comic version to be like, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you give his original comic series a try. By far one of the best series I’ve read. It is a beautiful masterpiece (imho) of story telling. Interesting plots and side stories with a varied and well developed cast of characters. The show, unfortunately, fails to capture the essence of the comic version of Lucifer’s character: an unrelenting force that bows to no one, and would (literally) cross heaven and hell to get what he wants. Putting him in a detective drama confines and limits what the show can show of the vast world and cast the series has to offer. Honestly, I don’t think the show and comic should be compared to each other. They only share the names of characters and a semblance of background settings. Everything else is MUCH different. Just by changing the names, you would not be faulted for thinking the two have nothing to do with each other. Apologies for the long rant. The show is kind of a pet peeve of mine...
@@entropyad to be fair in the comics, Lucifer does move to Earth and opens up a bar and there's no follow up comic book to what happens next so writers can just do whatever they want.
Lucifer remains my favourite ever comic book series. He destroyed one afterworld just by stepping foot in it, wiping out millions of souls as a side effect.
you only truly start to realise how dangerous lucifer is when you look at the instances where he actually is without his powers and the things he is still capable of doing by his intellect alone.
@ᏚᏞᎪYᎬᎡ X Eric Nick is referencing the Overmonitor/Overvoid and Source. The Overmonitor is a representation of ideas on a canvas, and the Source is where all ideas originate. However the current DC hierarchy is pretty wonky, and DC clearly want the Presence/Source as top dog (actually he was a dog for a bit in DC) in DC.
@@wildcard749 you clearly didn't read the comic. God chose to take a break after he warned lucifer to return to hell. The reason is never fully explained, until you read preacher. It's stated that when Genesis (half angel-half demon creature which was sealed in heaven) escaped heaven, God decided to leave all of creation which isn't to be taken seriously due to the fact that the presence is preordained meaning he knows everything that's going to happen before it happens; which also means he was trolling.
At the end of the series, the presence put things as... the whole creation purpose was to give lucifer a path to become a being beyond the presence plan... So..he is the reason for everything.
@@tiagostein4057 bro, how many times have you read the sandman run of lucifer???. When lucifer talks to the presence for the last time, it offers him a choice that both their beings become one and lucifer refuses stating that he is who he is and that will never change. The presence bids him fairwell and that it may never see him again and it states that it was not pleased by how they parted ways, for it loved lucifer. My point: During his talks with lucifer the presence states that " *there's no going outside of the plan* " for it, itself was shaped by external forces(implying the writers of the series). Don't get this confused, the presence might have been shaped by external forces by it, itself is the main reason for how the whole DC/VERTIGO line of comics work.

It's not so much about the powers as it was about the goofy premise or some of the derpy casting choices, lets be real the show wasn't really based on Neil Gaiman's Lucifer so...
But what people fail to see is that a show of him at comics level would be very very boring and the only ones who could fight him would be Michael and Presence which is probably Stalemate with Michael and death with Presence. The show wasn't meant to be an action show, just for comedic purposes. That's why Marvel and DC don't make shows or movies of powerhouses like The Sentry or The Batman Who Laughs without nerfing them to the ground just to give the shows entertaiment and drama.
We’re all but outright told that Lucifer has similar levels of reality warping, strong enough to the point that he is able to control not just his own physiology, but it’s implied by Linda that the reason they always get cases that match his ongoing emotional progress is that Lucifer is literally projecting his issues onto reality and causing them to line up to help him sort out his emotions. He is the same Lucifer, just one that’s both knowingly and subconsciously limiting himself in order to fit in with the humans he’s come to love

Finally someone speaks out that Lucy isn't Omnipotent, I've seen time and time again, fanboys of Lucifer always defending him saying he is Omnipotent when he truly is not.
My favorite comic series of all time. It wasn't even about power with Lucifer it was about Philosophy when it came to his comics. Okay this is why DC created Vertigo back in the day. It was to create a more adult themed comic that had abstract and deeper philosophical tones to their stories. In a regular comic Lucifer, Hellblazer, Death, Sandman, Swampthing, etc. would be way OP for most stories. In DC Vertigo however the story lines were not straight forward or symmetrical, they had depth, existentialism, psychology, etc. In a sense there were no real heroes. Hence why you didn't see Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, or even Batman in DC Vertigo Comics, b/c they would not have fit. This is why I miss DC's Vertigo b/c there needs to be a place where there are no real Heroes and Villians but a place where God like entities such as Lucifer, Sandman, Swampthing, Hellblazer, etc. can have stories that aren't chained down or marginalized by the conventional stories of Heroes vs Villains. So when it comes to the powers that these individual entities/beings possess, it never really matters in the stories b/c the fights for the most part are on a psychological and philosophical level. Yes there are fights but not in the typical way you read in Heroes vs Villain's comics. Like when Lucifer was getting his wings back and he managed to get 3 Asian Demon Brothers, who were guarding his wings, to turn on and kill each other. Rob you do a great job and I am not questioning you at all but when it comes to DC Vertigo Characters if you want to describe their power, it's not their powers themselves, it's the stories that are the main focus/power.
Power = abilities/effect of abilities. That's what Rob goes for in this series. The philosophy is the main focus, not the main power of the stories Vertigo characters feature in.
I'm a Marvel fan, but I wish we had a character like Lucifer, he is one of the most powerful and coolest characters in all of DC. Marvel should create their very own angel similar to Lucifer or his brother Michael.
@@joshuaandino With DC Vertigo it was so much more interesting to me b/c it was never about "Powers" it was philosophical and existential crisis's happening or played out by these powerful characters such as Lucifer or Morpheus Sandman...Like could you imagine Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, or even Green Lantern in Sandman's House of Dolls, Seasons in The Mist, The Kindly One's etc.? Or Lucifer's stories DC Vertigo? I could see Batman sparsely used in Vertigo's HellBlazer or Swamp Thing but no other characters. The DC Vertigo's Doom Patrol Series was amazing as well. Now that I am thinking of it, the only other character I could thing of being an interesting DC Vertigo title would be The Question. Yet at the end of the day DC Vertigo was the rejection of the over use of powers to write a good story and the Vertigo writers sat down and actually wrote stories in Comics with depth, philosophy, and psychology, and critical thinking all in mind. DC Dark is nothing compared to what DC Vertigo was. DC please bring back Vertigo and stop this watered down version of it with DC Dark.

The comic in one panel says it all "Saving only his creator, he is, perhaps, the most powerful being there is". Now you can spout all of his abilities and this and that ad infinitum. But when he was the apple in the creators eyes, the bringing of light, second only to the creator … well enough said. If anything one can argue he constantly holds back on his abilities. I mean with the ability to change reality as he sees fit, why does he do any of the things he does except that it must in some way entertain him.

It's stated that when Genesis (half angel-half demon creature which was sealed in heaven) escaped heaven, God decided to leave all of creation which isn't to be taken seriously due to the fact that the presence is preordained meaning he knows everything that's going to happen before it happens; which also means he was trolling.

Lucifer morningstar is too overpowered to be in death battle's he's second or third to God of DC universe.

Mike carry really nailed this series. How do you make someone so powerful interesting? Politics and battles of wit. Of course Lucifer could just easily do these powers by the end of his comic but he didn’t always posses this. He outsmarts or outwits all who oppose him in such wonderful ways all the while letting that balance the presence has established continue. Lucifer really is an awesome character and I’d love to see him return one day even for a cameo in someone else’s comic.

Wouldn't it basically be the same, I thought she inherited his power
She's the daughter of Michael and Lucifer's protege.
She has the demiurgic power to create matter which she inherited when Micheal died. She became the Presence after Yaweh tried his crumbling existence and relinquished it to her by Elaine's appeal. The comic in one panel says it all "Saving only his creator, he is, perhaps, the most powerful being there is". Now you can spout all of his abilities and this and that ad infinitum.
