    I love the sound of the cows eating grass. I don't know why. Thank you for sharing your animals with us. They are beautiful.

    Those beef masters are beautiful cattle. We had a red and white holstein bull, Spike... He was a gentle giant. Trusting bulls is always a toss up. Good luck with the Beef Masters... Great video. 😊

    I have a small herd of registered beefmasters and I think it was a good choice to get some beefmaster bulls for sure. I also just got some heifers off the same guy you got them from. Super nice guy. My wife has known him and his family for years...keep up the good video's

      Will do. They probably won’t bring as much per lb as angus but hopefully that will make that up with higher weaning weights and growth.

    Yipee! I 🤎 Beefmasters. My Dad ran them when I was younger. We bought many of the original Lasiter herd and sold bulls for a while. The Lasiter family had a long-time herd of select Shorthorns, they mixed them with a select herd of Herfords with red around the eye (less pink eye) and then brought in some special Brahmah bulls imported from India. If my memory serves me. As a teen, I memorized a book Tom Lasiter wrote on raising cattle and what to look for when buying cattle. When he realized I was a bottle calf fanatic (my Dad was good friends with a dairyman who had Brown Swiss), he gave me a great pamphlet on raising bottle calves. My Dad even tried developing his own breed with Beefmaster bulls and Brown Swiss cows.

    I think you will be pleased with the Beefmaster crosses. They are good dispositioned and you will want to keep their female crosses, they make great mama cows.

    I'm partial to cattle with a bit of ear. But I'm in Texas, so I'm biased lol - they do better in the heat of course. So I couldn't help but smile at your new bulls. ❤

    Beauty bulls mate. They’ll go great over your cows.
    Damn amazing how big those bulls can get.
    Herefords are so easy to be around. The beef masters look nice.

    We had Beefmasters for about 10 year here in Indiana (60 head) I liked the looks of them, they were a little rough to work. The thing I did not like was here in this part of the country if they showed ear or underline you could bet they would take a 20 cent or more doc per pound at the sale barn. Too bad I liked their looks. Ended up selling them all and going with black like everyone , follow the money.

    • @FarmandHammer
      @FarmandHammer  Рік тому +2

      Yeah around here they get docked some as well. The crossbreds tend to sell just as well as straight angus calves if they are black. Crossbred reds still get docked slightly. I’m really more interested in keeping their heifers back and getting some better heat tolerant cows.

    Finally a beef cattle channel that talks sense! Well done and keep it coming. My family ranched cattle in Namibia, the old South West Africa. All our cattle free ranged on sweet grass and went to market without supplemental feed. Really fortunate to also have 5000 ha with plenty of water. And anything crossed with Brahman (such as Brangus you referred to) were ornery and not worth the trouble. Our best cross was Hereford with Simmentaler.

    I saw a video were some bread tiger stripe heifer's the other day brought 2700 for the runts and the nicer ones off the same ranch brought 2900-3800 there was 4 loads of them so I think the red bulls heifer's that come red might make some fine and Valuable replacements

  • @josephmelson7591
    @josephmelson7591 Рік тому

    Very cool video ..those are awesome bulls the two new beef masters are pretty chill to I like how they just slowly walk away when you get close to them but aren't flighty eather..I think for two years at least you will like the prices the red F-1 steers and heifer's will bring ..I have been hearing the market reports from Joplin regional stock yard and there was a mixed load of calf's of every color last week and they were very close to the black hided calf's in price ..for next two years People aren't going to be able to discount the reds as we are lowest number of momma cows on record on USA ..

    • @FarmandHammer
      @FarmandHammer  Рік тому +1

      Yeah I’m hoping they don’t get discounted too much. If demand is still high and the calves are black, I think they will sell just as well as the angus.

      We had them trimmed about a year ago. At that point she had some kind of infection and was really bad off. After the trim, she started walking better and her hoofs just never grew back straight. She can walk fine without being in pain, it’s just not perfect.

      She was a 10 year old cow. It’s bad genetics. We have cows on our farm over 15 years old that have never needed a trim. She was not bred and she did have her feet trimmed more than a year ago. But we have a zero tolerance policy on the farm. If they require any assistance for any reason, they go to town.

      Ear just means they have some Brahman influence. Brahma cattle have a bunch of loose skin and floppy ears. They are very heat tolerant and normally pretty pest resistant as well. Hope that helped a little!

      Cows should not need their feet trimmed. If they do, it’s either bad genetics or an injury. We don’t put up with either. We have a zero tolerance policy on the farm.
