I've liked the SLR ever since I saw Clarkson drive one to Oslo. What a wonderful noise. I find the SLR fits into that time where cars were beginning to take on the look they currently have, with insane amounts of power and driver aids but it's before the time of all the touchscreen displays.
One SLR McLaren Edition, with orange/black livery, was sold at a 2015 RM Auction for $550,000. It was listed as having 552KW/750 PS and being one of six.
Just had a similar experience in Northamptonshire while out riding my bike...very middle aged woman driving a Lamborghini Huracan with the roof down...fair play to her.
Oh my goodness!! One of the best cars of our generation, Sam! Remember playing Forza 4 and ripping this beast around a track! You sir are one lucky SOB! Great video as always
I really like the design language that has carried through too Mclaren today. That front lip/bumper looks almost exactly like the one you would find on a Mclaren 650S or 675LT. Its kinda cool how that entire design language starter all the way back when they were still with Mercedes and barely their own brand.
I have an old Evo magazine where they show the same car in other color and all the process of McLaren doing it... Is my absolute dream car ever...is just perfect!
Whatta car!!! That's the modern classic I'd absolutely buy! The design is so timeless! And what a soundtrack! Wow! You don't really need all the touchscreens, just pure driving experience, and those nearly 700hp are more than enough!;)
Sam it's got to be said what a beast. also I was a subscriber a few years back and I've got to say the last few months of your uploads is by far the best work you've done I loved the around the world uploads too but the new stuff is really what us car guys love keep up the good work mate 👍
Sat in traffic with one of these next to me at brackley, towcester roundabout, egging the guy to hit the loud pedal, he eventually did pulling away at the roundabout. Wow it sounds like thunder and having checked my mirror he was gone. the smile on my face went from ear to ear.
So much cooler than a regular SLR, maybe it's because all of the upgrades were from the manufacturer and not an aftermarket company but it just looks so tasteful
I’ve heard about these cars, but didn’t know they made a roadster variant of them. I’m surprised Manny doesn’t have one to be honest. Great video and sad I didn’t get to see you again this year in Monterey!
If it's any of the 3500 from 03-07 Mercedes-benz SLR McLarens, then I definitely heard of it, and it's been my favorite car for over a decade. I dream of owning one someday
IMO, this car is the best looking of all the versions you would actually drive on public roads. It actually looks like it could be made today and slot right into that hyper GT marketplace. I think this car is going to be a great find for the right buyer and its current bid of £250,000 is WAY under where its value is. If someone can get this for under £750,000 it's a steal!
Cool I didn't know about this version. Someone who used to live on my street had a Roadster and I saw a 722 at the track last year for an IMSA race. Cool tire slaying machine. Also, fun fact you can take this to your local British car meet and your local German car meet.
I'm surprised that no mention is made here (or in Wikipedia) of the role of Advanced Composites Group in the SLR McLaren cars. ACG, based just outside Somerset West, 40minutes drive from Cape Town, manufactured all of the carbon fibre parts for the SLR McLarens - and that means just about all of the structure, plus sundry bits and pieces. I was very fortunate, in the mid-noughties, to participate in a quality management certification audit at ACG's impressive and beautiful factory. As the reader will know, the manufacture of carbon fibre products is a fascinating mixture of traditional, low-tech and ultra modern, high tech processes. A nice touch was that, sometime prior to the audit, McLaren had actually shipped a completed car out to ACG for the workforce to inspect, sit in and (I think) actually (for some) to be driven in.
That's exactly where I know this car from. Since I see it almost all the time in the game I didn't know just how rare it is in the real world. Still a very beautiful car though.
Dear SLR, back in 2007 I dreamed that one day in the future I would own you. And now 16 years later being 34 I feel like that future might never come and I have settled for 2010 Aston Martin DB9 instead. I am not closing door on you, and my heart still for you. That day might still come when I’ll hold you in my arms, my one and only 722s SLR.
I understand this is "factory" and all that but yeah, the turbine wheels are so quintessential SLR. I still remember all the articles writing about how it was supposed to help brake cooling
Saw one of these at the Saratoga, New York Auto Museum in a show they put on. I also think I remember seeing one which belonged to Ralph Lauren at a show at the Boston Museum of Fine Art .They are striking in person !
We have 2 out of the 20 something in North America get serviced at the Benz dealership I work at and service is a FORTUNE but they're so beautiful and refined.
Jeeez, that’s the flying U-Boat ready to sink anything showing up in the rearview mirror on the Autobahn... listen to the sound of the engine... the whine of the supercharger...gets me goosebumps everytime I hear it! The most misunderstood hypercar, yes, that’s true. When I first saw this masterpiece at the Geneva Motorshow I went upside down and couldn’t sleep for days without dreaming of owning one. Didn’t win the lottery yet though... maintenance costs are prohibitive... who cares... I want one!!! Was driving my SL the other day on a Swiss motorway when I got destroyed by an SLR... that thing flew by at nearly supersonic speed, Gulf state numberplates ;-) and I was going the legal 120km/h...

Only Manny Khoshbin can flex about the SLR as he has 5 of them.
👌
You can also flex McLaren by buying an 89-90 Pontiac Grand Prix with the ASC/McLaren package 😀

True, that’s my 1st thought. Here’s me wishing Mclaren will make an ultra-rare hypercar w/ an AMG engine.
Every time Mclaren does a colab with another car industry, you know it’s gonna be brutal.
