The elves are power rangers, T'au are gundum, Tyranids are kaiju. GW, I have an idea for the greatest warhammer show of all time, ever. Have you heard of a little thing called "tokusatsu?"
I really wanna know what exactly Aspect Warriors who aren't Exarchs do when they aren't in battle. like does that Dire Avenger have a spouse who's on the Path of the Botanist and when he's at home he's helping her with her farming to feed the Craftworld? does that Swooping Hawk take a jetpack and race his squad mates for the entertainment of others? Is that Howling Banshee a loving mother who is always happy to see her young child whenever she returns from the battlefield and is often worried that she might not come back to them? I want some looks into the life of the Asuryani like this.
Dark Reapers signify Khaine's looming destruction, the fact that you're not safe from him even if you're 48" away and in cover. Fire Dragons is when he's in screaming distance.
My introduction to WH40K was "Rites of War", I remember being fascinated by the description for the Harlequins kiss weapon and the VA for mission briefing being excellent.
Not really. See, the thing is that the Bretonnians each have their own heraldry, with MAYBE sharing colours as a concession to unit cohesion. For Aspect Warriors, however, each Aspect has its own heraldry. A closer analogue would be, unsurprisingly, the elite units of the various elven subraces, some of which have similar mythological-animal-inspired heraldry (Dragon Princes, Phoenix Guard, White Lions, Raven Heralds before they sided with Malekith and became Dark Riders) while others could be viewed as embodying aspects of Elven warfare (Swordmasters could be viewed as the fantasy equivalent of Dire Avengers, Executioners as Dark Reapers, etc). I'm not sure which actually came first, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that the High Elf units that are themed around creatures they're associated with inspired the Aspect Warrior concept or vice versa.
With the fighter pilots it could be that their Phoenix lords name came to mean fighter pilot. Which probably left the Crimson Hunter's Phoenix lord a little salty.
you also musnt forget that they represent one part of the war mask, one of the emotions that the eldar hate, dire avenger represents asureman rage and want for revenge. striking scorpions represent pure rath and gore the want to rip to shreds, the fire dragons is pure and utter rage, the swooping hawks represent the grace in killing, the banshees represent the grief that is caused by war.
Them being the focus of an Eldar RPG would be great. You are a young Eldar (young by Eldar Standards) who has just finished showing great skill as a Guardian and are encourage to try to go be an Aurtarch. You have 2 stories the game on of you needing to find and destroy some threat trying to destroy your Craftworld and your Warrior Path stories of you following a story dedicated to one of the Warrior Paths. The non-warrior paths are there for a crafting mechanic, but wouldn't get to much focus. As you travel down a Warrior path and reach a fifth of its story you have the choice of dedicating to that path and becoming an Exarch or leaving it incomplete to travel a different one to continue the Aurtarch/Warrior story.
They'd also be good in a party setup, with each having a very distinct speciality that essentially acts as a class. Could even include a warlock, since warlocks are essentially warrior-seers: while it is technically the Path of the Seer rather than the Warrior, it wouldn't be a serious break to include one. Thing is, nobody's been willing to make an Eldar-focused game since Rites of War.
I love that pancreas is a eldar lover. It has to be the faction that i know least about. Knew half of these aspect warriors but i do like the lot of em.
Eldar are, far and away, my favorite xenos army, and they might even get above Guard, or Grey Knights, if they weren't such a more skill-required force than many, but I do really like them, and Aspect Warriors are a lot of the reason why. I've always liked Warp Spiders and Dark Reapers, and was personally really excited when Shadow Spectres were first revealed, but I'm going to be really sad when, after being a surprise diamond, for the majority of 10th, they send the Spectres off to Legends, and just remake Swooping Hawks, which I've never really liked. The Aspects are a lot of fun, once you figure out how to best use their individual shticks, and I like their separate paint schemes, to those of each Craftworld. I do really hope, though, that when they get their codex, Autarchs can join Aspect squads, bur we'll have to wait and see.

I find it interesting examining how the Striking Scorpions managed to survive losing the connection to their first Phoenix Lord while the Shadow Specters didn't. Admittedly, the Scorpions still had the Phoenix Lord armor, but one could argue that having your founder go rogue could be seen as a bigger wound than your founder going missing. It would be neat to see them examine this in an Eldar novel if that was the kind of thing had the creativity and interest to do. And I see 3 ways to do it. 1 Autarchs can walk multiple warrior paths, so one who has struck without warning with both chainsword and composite beam cannon can have learned the lore of both and think on it from a single perspective. 2 "rank and file" aspect warriors in the field to break up action scenes and flesh out characters. 3 2 Exarchs to bring the depths of understanding of their aspects' histories and entrenched mindsets. The most alien to the reader and highlighting how distinct the aspects are, even ones that share stealth as a focus.
17:15 unfortunately ypu might have misread because it says units WITHOUT the monsters and vehicle keywords. So they hit alot harder against infantry Funny enough though this does mean it works against fortifications.
They changed the Howling Banshees again, they are now an all Woman Aspects along with the Incubi being an All Male Aspect-Source Da Big Dakka Dark Eldar MC explaining why the Grand Succubus had male blood brides and had to genecraft a Female body for their new Posistion as Grand Succubus
@specs.weedle something I notice with some Black Library authors they will pull you out of story to try and Justify a part of writing that has nothing to do with the plot of the story but they wanted to explain to the reader why they are doing something for Twitter Brownie points. Example of this was one that I found more egregious was Ghazghkull Thraka Prophet of Waagh where they interrupt the story over an argument of the Gender of Ghazghkull, like it wasn't really funny and had no point to the story of it other then to have their Brownie points.
I really enjoyed this one. More comprehensive unit overviews please. Of course we’ve had prior faction overviews but it’s been a while for 40k and I liked learning about the granular strengths and weaknesses and war gear choices
I started playing WH40k during Rogue Trader, but stopped around the mid-1990s when 2nd Edition was still pretty new. I still recall when the Aspect Warriors were introduced in the early 1990s, it helped spice up the Eldar lineup. Before them, for infantry you basically just had regular Shuriken Catapult slinging infantry and maybe someone lucky to find the Harlequin figure set. They gave the Eldar some needed variety and made it more complicated to deal with them, that's for sure. I never played Eldar but I appreciated the style and look, colors they brought to the table top. GW also added more stylish flavor with the Eldar in new vehicles with the mid-late 1990s and beyond.
32:25 Or 3) The guy was so instrumental in inventing(?) that Aspect of war that an entire position of the military was named after him, and thus, all future fighter pilots honor his legacy by calling themselves “Amon Harak”, bc he’s not just “**A** fighter pilot” but “**THE** Fighter Pilot”.
It just occurred to me that Space Marine successor chapters do the same thing, with the Black Templars chapter being named after THE Black Templar/Emperor’s Champion, and the Flesh Tearers chapter being baked after THE Flesh Tearer.
4:02 min This was literally a job back in the day. Someone died, so in addition to all the friends and family being sad about the person passing, you could hire professionals to grieve for the newly deceased.
You know, with the Warp Spiders being my favourite aspect warriors, I had no idea the lykhosidae guy was a C.S. Goto creation. I fully regret my years of wishing he was confirmed as the Phoneix Lord. But now I'm just sad that they still don't have a Phoenix Lord now, because honestly I think they really deserve one!
Actually, you can kinda take a "warp spider" in kill team! Corsairs have a Shade Runner operative that's equipped with a warp spider warp jump pack. It thankfully does not have any rules for randomly disappearing into the warp though Their description for reference: "Shade Runners are experts at the surprise attack. Utilising their blink packs - which function in a similar manner to the warp jump generators used by Warp Spiders of the Asuryani - they flank their enemies, striking with the swift, savage blows of their Hekatarii blades."
New head cannon for me is that all Warp Spiders are gambling addicts as the most extreme for of gambling is Russian roulette. And since Eldar did the Eldar thing and had zero chill they made a whole aspect dedicated to the most extreme form of Russian roulette, with murder being a added bonus.
24:00 In 10th, being able to milk the Overwatch strat with an all-Torrent unit is so broken lol. 15:10 "...or maybe it's part of their training to time the activation of their [chain]swords with their swings." I mean, I was assuming that's how chainsword users _always_ operate.
An active chainsaw is rather unwieldy to swing with all the moving parts and vibrations, so it makes sense to wait until right before the strike connects before you activate the chainsword it also saves fuel
a little lore correction but the Fire Dragons are as name suggest represent the dragons of eldar mythology characterize by their destructive scourge earth nature, the Swooping hawks represent the eldar hawks who were believed to be the reincarnation of those who were wronged now a spirit of vengeance while Dark reapers take the form of Khaine grim reaper aspect a deal of death (possibly a nod to him killing the nightbringer)
Bro was this written on low blood sugar, because there's some weird stuff in the segments with the Banshees, Scorpions and the Hawks. But in all seriousness, the Aspect Warrior formula is so good Cawl copied it for his Primaris Marines.
I have been into Warhammer 40K for about 12 years now. I haven't bought a single model because I'm mostly a book lore and video game guy, but I've considered Admech for the cool cybernetic and transhumanist themes or the Tau for the cool federation/covenant mixed species feel. That last bit comparing the aspect warriors to the Ginyu Force is single-handedly make me rethink what my first Army should be. The idea of a faction dedicated to gardening or poetry living alongside literal super soldiers that create a background explosion via group pose is just too good.

"ALPHA! SLAANESH HAS ESCAPED! RECRUIT A TEAM OF SPACE-ELVES WITH ATTITUDE!"
I'm imagining Alpha 5 made of wraithbone.
Ay yi yi!
"Go go Aspect Rangers" caught me off guard and made me chuckle.

Abaddon: AH! After ten thousand years I'm free. It's time to conquer Earth!
He was free for all those 10k years tho?
@@letendreelliott8778Not if you count "inevitable failure" as a prison.
Also in this analogy Zordon's like, Eldrad or something.
@@Pyre It probably be more accurate to say that the Emperor could be Zordon because both are basically dead and are maybe manipulative.
“WHO STOLE MY ARMS?!”
I'm a Farsight Enclave man, but I do love the Eldar.
Same. Could definitely see the two fighting side by side against a common threat and it not devolving like it does with the Imperium.
I'm still holding on to hope that the Dawn Blade Farsight has is an Eldar Cronesword, and two of my favourite Xenos factions wearing red and white can join up.
Because the Ynnari and Farsight are both just kinda around right now, with no big plot.
@@SeanCrosser Ah! That would be awesome! Hey maybe then we can get decent 40K Xenos books that actually advance the overall plot.
Alternative option: The leader of the fighter pilot aspect warriors was such a bad ass that his name BECAME the Eldar word for 'fighter pilot'.
13:28 “and either way, would”
“Woah he’s bisexual I didn’t know that!”
You didn't know that this man was into karl Franz?
He's elf-sexual, it's probably different
I love that the Shining Spears have Tandem Crest plumes now. (Tandem means mounted in a longertudinal configuration, which is a good that GW chose this configuration because if it was mounted in a transverse configuration the helmet plume would cause a lot of aerodynamic drag.
Say the line Pancreas!
"GW sucks at running xenos."
Yay!
War masks: When the Space Elves take “show me your War Face!” a bit too seriously.
Be me, someone newer to 40k. Hears Pancreas throw some shade at CS Goto with little context. Look it up...
Completely understands the shade and agrees wholeheartedly, like wow that is the kind of bad writing that even xenos haters would have mixed feelings about.
Please understand. He was busy enjoying his Multi-lasers.
Goto is considered one of the worst writers from everything I understand.
He's just so bad he's forgettable...Whereas Matt Ward gets more crap due to messing up in some particularly visible and un-ignorable areas.
Could be that Amon Harak was such a good fighter pilot they named the entire concept of flying a plane after him
I sometimes forget that you're a very, very young person. As an old(38), but not ancient(yet) person who was playing this game...fucking hell maybe before you were born(august 2001) it boggles my fucking mind that Warp Spiders haven't gotten a new model since well before I had started playing.
Love your videos, your cadence for presentation is great. I only found you within the last couple weeks but I am very impressed with your work, thank you for what you do.
He's got that "teacher who understands how to stay engaging" cadence.
I'm just 32, and it feels sad to know that the exaggerated "lie, cheat, condescend, fail" stereotype memes are so widespread that lesser knowledgeable just think that that's all Eldar lore is.
@@SeanCrosserto be fair GW seem to be leaning into that meme for a while. No respect for the eldar.
Been a 40k fan since '89. Can confirm. Warp Spiders still the same since introduction.
We got em 🎉🎉
The elves are power rangers, T'au are gundum, Tyranids are kaiju.
GW, I have an idea for the greatest warhammer show of all time, ever.
Have you heard of a little thing called "tokusatsu?"
I can't believe Warp Spiders are still using the same models, I remember them releasing in the 90's, the early 90's...
Details of striking scorpion chainblades are covered in 'path of the warrior'.
IIRC they literally just 'will it' to activate when striking.
Yeah they're whisper-quiet, unlike the other races' chain weapons.
Hey Pancreas, with aspect warriors all having their own unit heraldry, that makes them the Bretonnians of 40k
I've watched so many pancreasnowork vids this weekend i can now see a brilliant sponsorship before it comes without looking.
SPACE ELF SENTAI SQUAD
Teamup episode with the Farseight Enclaves when? x)
With the fighter pilots it could be that their Phoenix lords name came to mean fighter pilot. Which probably left the Crimson Hunter's Phoenix lord a little salty.
you also musnt forget that they represent one part of the war mask, one of the emotions that the eldar hate,
dire avenger represents asureman rage and want for revenge.
striking scorpions represent pure rath and gore the want to rip to shreds,
the fire dragons is pure and utter rage,
the swooping hawks represent the grace in killing,
the banshees represent the grief that is caused by war.
17:02 Judging by it's stats, the the claw seems to be the Eldar verison of a power fist. Double the punch as the chainsword, AP and damage 2, swing at -1, those be power fist stats
Praise the Omnissiah, a 40 minutes Pancreas video to fall asleep to! (and then rewatch to actually catch everything.)This channel has been my go to for the past couple weeks and I have been slowly but surely running out videos, so this is a welcome surprise :)

9:37 the main character in Path Of The Warrior does take his armour off, IIRC, but he's still the gestalt being Morlaniath.
Anyone else notice these are elvish knightly houses? Complete with unique heraldry and a wide range of colours?
21:42 Man I remember when the Swooping Hawk Exarch had a weapon that could shoot 6 times lol.
17:15 unfortunately ypu might have misread because it says units WITHOUT the monsters and vehicle keywords.
So they hit alot harder against infantry
Funny enough though this does mean it works against fortifications.
They changed the Howling Banshees again, they are now an all Woman Aspects along with the Incubi being an All Male Aspect-Source Da Big Dakka Dark Eldar MC explaining why the Grand Succubus had male blood brides and had to genecraft a Female body for their new Posistion as Grand Succubus
dafuq is dat shit doin in an ork book
Warp spiders are my favourite aspect warriors, now if only they get better sculpts.
Also Karrandras really needs a new model
4:02 min
This was literally a job back in the day. Someone died, so in addition to all the friends and family being sad about the person passing, you could hire professionals to grieve for the newly deceased.
Love the mix of the tabletop rules and the lore
You know, with the Warp Spiders being my favourite aspect warriors, I had no idea the lykhosidae guy was a C.S. Goto creation. I fully regret my years of wishing he was confirmed as the Phoneix Lord. But now I'm just sad that they still don't have a Phoenix Lord now, because honestly I think they really deserve one!
If I ever wanted to play Eldar (I won't, last time I painted them I hated every second) I'd use a lot of Shadow Spectres.
I like the spooky ghosts
Sortoff weird variant of spamming Cairn Wraiths and Hexwraiths of Vampire Counts?
“Oragami keeps quagmire happy. Oragami keeps my mind off sex. Keep on folding cranes…”
I think you misread the striking scorpion rule. It specifically says that it gets devastating wounds with units without Monster or Vehicle
Actually, you can kinda take a "warp spider" in kill team! Corsairs have a Shade Runner operative that's equipped with a warp spider warp jump pack. It thankfully does not have any rules for randomly disappearing into the warp though
Their description for reference:
"Shade Runners are experts at the surprise attack.
All teleportation had some risk.
Necrons do weird spacetime buggery.
Everytime you post an Eldar video i get giggly with excitement and am also reminded what a filthy elf-lover you are
Tbh as much as im a tau fan, eldar have been growing on me, the aspects and wraights really make them cool at times
T'au Fans, represent!
24:00 In 10th, being able to milk the Overwatch strat with an all-Torrent unit is so broken lol. I mainly play Tyranids so if you want to completely stop me from charging somewhere, just dump your Warp Spiders there and I will go as far out of my way as possible to not instantly lose an entire Gant/Gaunt swarm to a single Overwatch.
you might not consider yourself a productive member of society but you help us get through the day and entertain us while getting paid thats pretty cool
15:10 "...or maybe it's part of their training to time the activation of their [chain]swords with their swings."
I mean, I was assuming that's how chainsword users _always_ operate.
An active chainsaw is rather unwieldy to swing with all the moving parts and vibrations, so it makes sense to wait until right before the strike connects before you activate the chainsword
it also saves fuel
I swear this did video did not exist yesterday, I've scoured this channel every week for unwatched videos, and I never come across this.
I accept one alternate option. Fighter Pilot was so good at his job that they named the entire profession after him.
Death Korps of Krieg and Orks got me into 40k. I am now binging primarchs and Khorne.
a little lore correction but the Fire Dragons are as name suggest represent the dragons of eldar mythology characterize by their destructive scourge earth nature, the Swooping hawks represent the eldar hawks who were believed to be the reincarnation of those who were wronged now a spirit of vengeance while Dark reapers take the form of Khaine grim reaper aspect a deal of death (possibly a nod to him killing the nightbringer)
Honestly I kind of love this more specific unit based video.
this is a great video to listen to while trying my first total war warhammer game as the high elves
I couldn't care less about Eldar, but a chosen pancreas with brand recognision (and also the guy it lives inside) makes me listen
9:47 now the night lords have 2 versions of drednaughts.
The not nemisis night lords will just use them, not protect them, unless they get paid.
17:17 "Without the Monster or Vehicle key word"
1) Absolutely fantastic work... 2) Recommend listen at 1.5 speed. Don't know why, but he sounds a lot funnier when it sounds like he's rushing through and is running out of breath.
26:36 "Theyre tougher than other aspect warriors" so 2-ply Tissue paper nstead of single ply...?
The Eldar’s strongest supporter does it again. Great vid love your work.
