  • the oil pump is still a huge question for me ?????? I just don't get why its not already on engine, what would be the purpose of leaving it off?

    I picked up the same engine for my 2004 Suburban.That motor came with a M 295 Melling oil pump which is a standard volume standard pressure pump. I however put in one of their M 296 pumps which is a high volume high pressure unit. One thing you may want to think about doing Is installing a oil pump tube flange hold down. This will help the pickup tube to stay in place. I don't know why GM did not think about this. As you can surmise by reading the installation instruction. They recommend exhaust and injector upgrades for optimal performance. And ECU tuning is required. If it's going behind a automatic. Then they recommend a 2500 stall converter. However from the research that I have been doing the 2500 just isn't quite enough for this engine. From what I've found you may want to step up to a 3000 stall converter. As far as injectors go I went with a set of 36lbs/hr injectors. According to Summit on a naturally aspirated engine these are good in the 425-540 horsepower range. Good Luck It looks like it's going to be an exciting build. installwww.ebay.com/itm/195324140552?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=tS-hXiIdT6S&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=RsvBi44-RlW&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

    where did you find that M 15 adaptor attached to the priming pump? I've seen them online for 20 bucks but me being a tight ass I want the plastic one like yours.
    btw, my crate engine came in Thursday from a different company. I opted for the pan and timing cover and valley cover. I paid almost the same for mine. Iron block but mine has the 862 heads. Now I wish I had gone with the DOD delete. Oh Well.
    Cheers from Louisiana.

    They mentioned no oil pump in the add.

    • @andhotrodshop
      @andhotrodshop  7 місяців тому

      but that's just the thing, the oil pump is supplied with it, its just in the bottom of the crate and not on the motor. Now the car is driving around Florida going to all the cars and coffee and enjoying the nice weather. And it does have nice power and hold great oil pressure, so it all worked out, just silly they didn't mount it

  • @cliffwright9842
    @cliffwright9842 Рік тому +2

    I just watched your video, the oil pump dose not have a dowel locating pin so shipping without the timing cover they (ATK) could not align the pump properly. With your timing cover you will have to do one of three ways to line it up so the front seal does not leak. Some use feeler gauges (three of them), some use the damper partially installed but the best way is to use the plastic tool that goes over the crank snout and you center the (new) front seal around it. Read the instructions withe tool and remember you leave the oil pump sort of loose to do this. That aftermarket oil pan has to line up on those two front bolts too. I hoped that helped. Just fyi the three same size feeler guages work best after you've done a few of these. By now you might have figured this out but I didn't see anything thing in the comments...Have a great day sir!

    • @andhotrodshop
      @andhotrodshop  Рік тому

      I'm with you on the 3 feeler gauge method, there is even a video of a kid using 2 feeler gauges (that engine guy) and still even Melling oil pumps method doesn't even use feeler gauges at all.
      and I'm with you on front timing cover needs to be centered for seal and also aligned with oil pan. But I cant see for the life of me why that has anything to do with why oil pump was in a box and not on motor. Thanks for watching and answering though 👍👍👍👍✋✋✋✋🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧
