    Working with acrylic is no joke! There are about a million different variants, and they all have their own strange characteristics, but they ALL hate to be cut, ground, filed, or otherwise manipulated. I've had sheets blow apart on me before, and that'll give you a pretty good scare! Safety Always with this stuff!

    Very nice but possibly the most expensive way of making speaker rings at home short of machining them from billet. Looking forward to the rest of this build.

      The best way is usually never the cheapest way. And you could substitute aluminium for the acrylic, I have. Takes longer but same basic steps.

    Dude its like watching Bob Ross doing speaker fabrication! Keep it up the good work and thank you for all these cool things you are showing us and teaching. There are always alternatives in fabricating stuff ignore the negative pointless comments.
    Looking forward to see you working on some interesting fiberglass boxes :) Salute to the true router master!

    How’s that cover trim piece going to affect off-axis response? I’m thinking slight waveguide or fast ring effect for on axis response. They’re nice! Hella expensive rings though. +1 on the polishing or perhaps an RGB led for backlighting? 😎

    by adding that second ring wont it act like a wave guide? especially at that thickness it should be noted that it would decrease the sound dispersion and make it more directional which can be a positive or negative effect. just depends on what you are looking for

    How does acrylic do in terms of sticking ro resin when fleecing or glassing into their spot, such as pillars? How does that compare to other materials such as PVC, type-1 PVC, ABS or other materials? How about even metal? My audiofrog metal rings are glassed right into my A-pillars currently and seem to be great.

  • @paulfretz6777

    Is that acrylic, or lexan? If not lexan, then can someone substitute lexan for acrylic? I have several pieces of lexan at my disposal, no need to buy something else if I can use what I already have on hand.

      You could use something like king starboard, PVC foam, etc. But the acrylic will give me the ability to tap for fasteners.

    Unsure of the criticism. Imperial/Metric, who cares. Acrylic more expensive than mdf. No shit. Same principles apply to achieve the same effect in whichever is your chosen material. Acrylic more expensive? Hell yeah. Does it look more impressive? Hell yeah. Would you install them in a 500 dollar shit box? F*** No. High end install for the classy customer. Great video Mark

    What happened to this channel. It used to be useful. Now it's just an ad. You're showing all these specialized tools and bits...like the people that own them don't already know how to use them.

    • @CarAudioFabrication
      @CarAudioFabrication  6 років тому +2

      +cz3chmonkey I recently did a full box build using ONLY a circular saw and jig saw. You can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/wf1KDzmZSEI/v-deo.html I have also done several videos about budget tools. I try to do videos that are both basic and advanced, so it's impossible to please everyone with every video. I'm sure you understand.

    Buddy, it's time to upgrade to a 3D printer. Don't be that fabricator that thinks everything has to be done the 'old fashion' way. Hehehe.

    • @CarAudioFabrication
      @CarAudioFabrication  6 років тому +1

      +Tony Kart Racer I have full access to a CNC. To be honest these are simple enough that it takes me the same amount of time to make by hand or to draw-set up-cut.

    • @wmgilliland2582
      @wmgilliland2582 6 років тому

      Also Mark already has a 3D printer. Besides sometimes making things the "old fashioned way" is far more satisfying.

    • @dwvw
      @dwvw 6 років тому +2

      I make these rings in less than 2 minutes. No way you could make them that quick with a 3D printer. Also they would be ABS, not acrylic.

    • @u9Nails
      @u9Nails 6 років тому

      Mark doesn't make these videos for himself... He breaks this knowledge down for average DIY'ers like me and for the seasoned pros with common or affordable tools so we get exceptional results. I don't have access to CNC or 3D printing, so this is exactly the content I need!

      I fight the conversion battle every day. Even after almost 20 years in Germany, smaller measurements confuse the hell out of me. 1 meter and larger is easy...it's the less-than a meter ones that get me.

      In the US just about any calculation that is important in Engineering or Science is performed in Metric then converted to imperial when discussed with laypersons. Carpentry in not science it's Art so Mark can use whatever he wants his measurements are never going to hurt anyone.
