    EDIT: Wow. There are a lot of bots commenting this thing with clearly fake replies. I wonder why...
    People in the comments saying how this guy is "making it up" because the stories are too wild. Huh? These aren't wild stories. Especially considering the time and place and him saying he was an exchange student and travelled a lot when he was 18-22ish in the 2000s-90s. Serbia and Mexico in the 90s weren't exactly bastions of sound and secure society... And those two "kidnappings" sound more like shakedowns/robbery, very common in Mexico and Serbia during that era, especially with foreigners (this is pre big internet remember, so there's less international attention given to tourists getting robbed). He might be overexaggerating some things, obviously I can't know for sure, but nothing he spoke about is unrealistic or unlikely to have happened, especially for someone who travels a lot to third world countries and places like Serbia, Mexico, and Gaza in the 90s/2000s...

    • @garythecyclingnerd6219
      @garythecyclingnerd6219 8 днів тому +1

      The biggest inconsistency I heard was him saying he was 20 for both Mexico and Gaza.

    • @orcanimal
      @orcanimal 8 днів тому +13

      @@garythecyclingnerd6219 How is that inconsistent if the guy specifically said he recommends taking a gap year to travel the world and go to different places... He said he was in Gaza for just like 10 days and Mexico for a couple months... And the "kidnapping" in Mexico is most likely an attempted robbery... These aren't crazy events

    • @garythecyclingnerd6219
      @garythecyclingnerd6219 8 днів тому

      @@orcanimal I find it very unlikely that both of those events happened in a calendar year.

    • @orcanimal
      @orcanimal 8 днів тому +8

      @@garythecyclingnerd6219 I'm confused... There was no "event" in Gaza. He just said he was there for 10 days, mostly in the same area, saw a Hamas flag in a house. Went to pee in the dark once and wandered too close to the border to IDF soldiers came and checked him out. That's it. Nothing big happened, that's a super basic story. He even said he didn't have anything major thing happen there because it was before the 2nd Intifada started... And the Mexico thing just took a few hours and he moved to a different city. These aren't huge events, their anecdotes at best. Again, I have no idea if the guy is lying, but his stories are not insane or wild. The Mexico thing is basically him being driven to a bad spot in the city by a shade driver (most likely to meet others who'll take him to an ATM and make him take out money, which is a VERY common robbery method still used today). He only dealt with one guy, who he stated was older and out of shape so it wasn't a big struggle or nothing. I just think it's weird to say "that's impossible to have happend" when the story isn't crazy. This is 2000s/90s era Mexico, not Beverly Hills, ya know. There are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of cases of tourists getting robbed in Mexico in the very same way

    that whole experience in mexico where he got kidnapped really reminded me of that experience I got in Santiago in Chile. I got my phone stolen right off my hand from a car window that was passing by while checking the license plate number of the Uber that was coming to pick me up. Luckily, I had my older phone in my backpack, so I went to the nearest hotel, connected to the wifi and wiped my stolen phone (I could have checked the phone location but it wasn't like I was going to get it back).
    Now I needed to go back to my friend's place, she had left her whole apartment to me. Tricky thing is that her apartment was in a very secure residence but in a tough neighborhood. Let me tell you how fucking hard it was to convince a Uber to get me there at like midnight. Luckily the girl at the bar of the hotel ordered a Uber for me and i managed to go back there. the Adrenaline dropped as soon as I went to bed was terrible, I wasn't in any real immediate danger but being alone, at night in a south american city with my main communication system stolen was pretty fucking scary.

      @@zzaqe2136 Probably the kidnapping stories and I'm not claiming to be an expert but I definitely think he's embellished a lot of the smaller details in all his tales. Anyway, we all have to take his word for it so it's up to the individual whether they want to believe or not. Personally, I think I can see well enough through a grifter's ploy.

      @@zzaqe2136 1:33:00 he was detained by agents in Serbia, a land locked country with no prominent islands, and was told to stand on the railing of a cop car because there were guns in the back??? but it was ok because it was an island with no traffic and they were going 5km/h??
      The part where they were looking for him because he didnt register properly where he was staying is prob true. But after that they can detain you when ever they want, why would they drive you around outside of a car, take you to a special torture bar and then get you drunk for interrogations, when they can just skip steps 2-7 and detain and question you
      Its nonsense, it happens only in movies

    I understand not wanting to challenge people's lived experiences or come off as hostile. However this guy is talking about how college degrees are "bs" and then starts talking about how he made his own concentration and then tries to say college doesn't actually teach you how to get a job. IDK man kinda sounds like the consequences of your own actions lol

    I think Ethans "drunken master" is intentional and he knows he is making a good point or hinting a core question, but is trying to be non-confrontational.
    Trying to NOT make Hasan feel attacked, Still expressing his critical disagreements. But rather make him feel uncertain, like Ethan just asked an obvious, simple question Hasan should know. But Ethan knows he is directly criticizing Hasan's point.
