When Ed was in a bad mood we saw what he was capable of doing. Not even Sarah could beat him. Kevin may bully Ed but we see that Ed could beat Kevin. So in a way, it's a good thing Ed is a lovable idiot because everyone would be dead if he wasn't
I have a theory: Ed is a loveable idiot (as stated by the comme t above) but he's also probably traumatized by sarah and his parents into submission Edd is weak and allergic to violence And Eddy probably has the same reaction as Ed after years of getting beat by his dad and being his brother's punching bag. So even though Eddy can put up a fight with the other Eds and Ed himself could lift a house, they both react with fear anytime there's physical violence because that's how they've been taught to react at home. And Edd is just too pure and not a fighter at all
