    Which would you buy?

      The C80 no doubt, if I had the cash. Otherwise I have the Canon R5c and will use it for as long as it lasts

    They're not comparable to me. It depends on the use case. But for the price, I don't think it's justified. I'd rather get two Pyxis cameras. Or a BMCC 6K and a Sony FX3 instead of a C80. That way, I have a B cam, and when I need low light or compact autofocus, I use the Sony. If I want something cinematic and have good lighting, I go with the BM.

      Yea I get what you’re saying but the c80 does both in one camera. It’s not as small as the fx3 but it’s close and it doesn’t have to be rigged out. Triple base iso, built in NDs, audio inputs etc. I would skip the fx3 and just get 2 LUMIX s5iix and lenses. It’s been said that it has the same sensor as the Pyxis. Lumix autofocus is better, has dual iso so decent in low light. And you can take photos.

    If I could I would have both. Canon always has had good color science, etc. What I like about the PYXIS is the BRAW. Having worked with BRAW when I shot with the BMPCC4K, I fell in love with it. I like the warmer colors that come with BRAW. To me, BRAW footage is more film like straight out of camera. That being said, the C80 has built in ND filters which is a HUGE benefit, which I wish more cameras had. Both the C80 and PYXIS have great colors. So, it's a tough call to pick just one of them.
    The first feature film I shot, I shot with the GH5. And I didn't use autofocus once. However, I have since bought cameras with AF. Currently, I'm running with the LUMIX S5ii, which so far is the best camera I've had to date. The beauty of the S5ii, is that I can get a BRAW update and the Blackmagic 12G monitor, which would allow me to shoot and record BRAW. The best of both worlds.
    If I were to choose between the two at this moment, I would get the PYXIS with L mount. Because it's cheaper and I already have L mount lenses for my S5ii. Still, I would love to have both and use them for separate projects. Even though, I probably could match them in post if needed.
    Great comparison.

      Thank you for you comment. I once had the GH5 and then added Blackmagic to my arsenal. Although Blackmagic have great colour science I've fallen in love with the C80 and its sensor. The way it cleans up noise in camera in low light is something to behold. Internal ND, AF & In-body stabilization is something we often look down on but need at times. Another very important thing is, speed on set. Having had Thr Pyxis for a while now, its a slow camera to pick up and use but great when you have a crew and time

    Good video. This is comparing apples to oranges. Both are great tools used for different applications. Pyxis is a straight up cinema camera while the C80 can be used for doc and corporate style shoots. Right tool for the right job.

    Great and objective comparison! Love the way you break both cameras down. Both look good to me. Canon footage seems to be a bit more crisp. What lens did you use to compare the cameras?

      Thanks for watching! On the C80 it was the latest canon 24-70mm f2.8 RF
      On the Pyxis it was the older 24-70 canon EF

      @@YourFilmmaker The Pyxis will hold its value for many more years than the Canon as Blackmagic is a more prestigious company in the cinema world, Also the color science of BM is renowned in the film world, I prefer its look and feel although modifications can always be made in post. Black magic has more experience with making cinema cameras, so in few more years they will release an update to the C80 while blackmagic might not update the Pyxis anytime soon.

    What about dynamic range and quality in general? Have you noticed the difference? Which one handles better in the highlights or shadows?

    • @YourFilmmaker
      @YourFilmmaker  4 дні тому

      The C80 has a triple-base iso tthe Pyxis has just two. Watch from 1:21

      @Emigrantos 4 дні тому

      Thanks for your reply, but my question wasn’t about the low light performance. It was about the dynamic range stops in highlights and shadows. Pyxis tend to hold the highlights better and have extra stop or two, unlike to many other cameras. However there are not much information about c80.

    The Canon seems like a better long term investment for wedding videographers
