not really they can be updated but just very hard to find the maps now to download, because of too many scammers and ripoff websites,and ripoff tomtom who sell some of there devices with so called lifetime map upgrades for free but do not tell you thats for normally about five years or whatever time span they choose
I've found the hard way that lifetime maps for a GPS especially Tom Tom are only as long as they want to support the model. I have an older XXL550 and cannot download anything. Obviously, they want you to buy a new model every few years. I just use WAZE on my phone now

After more googling I have figured out that my TomTom will show the wrong time due to a GPS date rollover in 2019 (aka Y2K bug), however it will still be able to navigate. Where I am heading in the US there has been significant changes in the city centre, but I likely won't be going there, so the old TomTom, bought 2010, will probably by OK for 99% of the time. It's just frustrating and disappointing that TomTom have dropped support. It happens for all sorts of electronic gizmos nowadays, but we end up making e-waste out of perfectly good older tech :-(

Daca vrei pentru comion îți trebuie un GPS care folosește soft Igo truck, dacă vrei pentru turism și nu conduci zilnic distante lungi poți folosi un telefon mai vechi fară probleme. Cumperi o aplicație din Google play și gata, ai GPS. Exemplu IGO costa 150 lei Full Europa. TomTom îl poți achita pe o luna cu 25 lei sau pe tot anul dar nu prea are acoperire pe Europa de Est. Sygic mai este bun pe telefon, eu l-am avut pe un iPhone cu licență pe viață la doar 60 lei. Timp de 3 ani cât am ținut eu telefonul am primit câte 3 - 4 actualizați pe an la hărți și puncte de interes. Mai este Copilot tot pentru telefon. Dacă ești șofer profesionist îți recomand un Navi Truck D11 la 700 lei, Garmin Truck Dezl LGV700 sau Becker. Eu i-am recomandat la cineva acest Garmin LMTS 61 pentru turism, la folosit numai pentru drumuri Spania - Romania. A fost foarte multumit de el. La cumpărat de acolo și l-am actualizat eu aici, prin wifi fara a fi nevoie de un PC. Te salut, am trecut recent pe OS..macbook pro M1 si nu reusesc sub nicio forma sa conectez dispozitivul, nu i l vede . L am conectat la Mac direct prin cablul original dar fara reusita . Ai idee ce ar trebui facut? Multumesc
Salut, în acest video gps-ul l-am conectat la un Macbook Air. Nu mai am un GPS TomTom să-l probez și pe Macbook Pro M1. Probabil sa nu meargă cu adaptorul usb C la usb A de la Apple. Eu nu pot conecta HDD extern prin adaptorul original de la Apple, pentru asta am un HUB USB C cu 3 USB A 3.1, HDMI 4K, LAN 1GB, SD, MicroSD.
Salut! Probabil a fost resetat. Instalează pe un PC My Drive Connect, după ce instalezi asta conectează GPS-ul la PC printr-un cablu USB. Just found out that my TomTom maps can't be upgraded. I won't be buying a new TomTom and I won't be buying their app. They can go do one.
Tomtom no longer provides updates for older devices. Try updating the maps with TTactivator.
