    I am coming with a Frenchie I would like to know if it’s expensive owning a dog in Canada, like the vet and all dat

    • @lockstockcanada8289
      @lockstockcanada8289  2 роки тому

      If your pet is healthy, then I would say not very expensive. The problems start when they get ill or injured. Then the vet bills really start to stack up. This is also the reason why getting insurance for your pet as soon as you land is a good idea even if it remains unused. This can set you back anywhere between $70-150 a month.

      Hey Fábio, winters are harsh but manageable. As long as you time the walks to about 10-15 mins for temp around -20°C, it should be fine. Colder it is, lesser they should be exposed outdoors. Otherwise until -10 they are totally fine. My dog was used to 30°C back home. After three years, she can’t handle temperatures higher than 20°C. 😂. She’s used to Canada now.

      Hi Anisha. We got a 42" crate that looks very similar to the Petmate sky carrier. It wasn't branded but it looked exactly the same. It set us back by a solid INR 30k. Please check Lufthansa's crate guidelines for additional details.
      www.lufthansa.com/us/en/transporting-animals-as-excess-baggage
      I would recommend a crate such as this because it has hand holds on the side for the ground crew to move the crate around. The only downside is that it's too large and bulky. Usually, your local pet store will charge you a bomb for this. So shop around and see if you can get a great deal on this. Sometimes, it takes time to import.

    Can't thank you enough for sharing this.
    I wanted to know, post landing when you try to book a taxi, are they fine with a dog hopping in? Like if you need to fold the crate and keep it in and then the dog is free to sit in the car?
    The drivers would complain?

    • @lockstockcanada8289
      @lockstockcanada8289  3 роки тому +1

      Depends on the taxi driver really. Some are ok. Some aren’t. But you will be able to find someone. If your dog looks menacing then carry a muzzle if you want them to be outside the crate in the car.

      Thanks for the quick response, I have a 6year old lab, she is well behaved, only concern is, if majority of the drivers deny, will be a little stressful if we have to wait post landing, plus we have a todler.
      Lame question: From India, with the luggage, how did you manage to take the crate and the dog to the airport? A mini truck? 😀

    • @lockstockcanada8289
      @lockstockcanada8289  3 роки тому +1

      Lab? Should be ok. Don’t worry. If you had a GSD or a Doberman, things would have been different.
      We drive to the airport in two cars. :) it was very annoying. And my family helped move the crate inside the airport.
      After landing at Toronto airport we found a porter to help us find a cab. They all know each other and freaking fleece you, but it’s still better than being stranded.

      lockstockcanada.com/index.php/2019/12/02/life-in-canada-with-your-dog/
      Dogs in general are very adaptable. But depending on the general temperament of your dog it requires patience. The first thing I would recommend is crate training your dog and training them to be by themselves in your absence. Start with 30 mins and slowly extend that to 4 hours for an 8 month old dog. The older the dog gets the more time you can let them be by themselves. Puppies require more engagement.
      We usually leave Maya in the house for sometimes upto 11 hours and she manages just fine. No barking. No whining and no destructive behaviour.
      It’s also important that your dog’s toilet habit is set prior to you leaving them at home. This is a long journey but very much trainable.
