    This is so valuable, just exactly what a complete beginner needs. Some others tried to teach with technical terms which is not easy to understand first thing. Your teaching is so easy to understand and to follow, thanks so much! Please keep this good work coming, surely you will help increase the numbers of Handpan community

    My husband and I went to our local music store today to look at guitars for him... we left with a pre-owned Novapans handpan, since I've been wanting one for YEARS (I've been playing African tribal drums since 1995). I'm absolutely ENCHANTED with my new drum! Thank you so much for your instructional videos, they are extremely helpful!

    I have been considering a handpan for a while but I can't justify the cost yet. But this lets me practice with my tongue drum and I am learning so much!
    One day I will buy one of these space turtles. I love them!

      I feel the same way. I don’t want to go for a cheap one just to have one so I’ve been thinking about getting a tongue drum to practice rhythms. How large is yours in diameter?

    • @vyvii3293
      @vyvii3293 2 роки тому

      @@Julie-fl5vc I have a 12 inch aquadrum tongue drum (you can change the tones by moving magnets). It wasn't cheap either, but it is great. I had a cheaper one, but you get what you pay for.
      I'm really keen on owning a handpan one day.

      Tongue drums and handpans are very different instruments from each other. They have much different tones, and require very different techniques.
      The good news is that prices have come down for both instruments. Most of the inexpensive ones are junk, but I found a very mellow & resonant tongue drum for $125, and decent handpan for $550. I did a lot of research, and picked the best of the less expensive instruments. When I get a chance, I will post the links.

    Does this practice needs to be done with thumbs? I know you told that we can play with index and middle finger too, but I was wondering is playing with thumbs better in any way? Thanks

      whatever works for you. of course it will make you more versatile if you can use multiple fingers on any tone field comfortably

      depends how much volume you want, but its a delicate instrument overall. so more on the light side.

    Do you think it's possible to play the Handpan with only one hand? I cannot use my right hand, but I so deeply want to play this instrument

    I have a problem with fingernail conflicts. Guitar and ukulele require medium-length fingernails, and handpan seems to require short fingernails. I am also not sure what to do regarding my wedding bands. Getting them on and off over my knuckles sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I can usually keep the rings away from the handpan, but not always.

    • @DavidUrbanHandpan
      @DavidUrbanHandpan  Рік тому

      Ideally yes, shorter nails are better, but not a necessity if you play with the inside of your fingers and not the tips. But rings are a definite NO NO! :)

    If you got rhythm you can play this. I haven’t tried it but me being a drummer I know I can play this.
