I have finally bit the bullet and bought a pan!I am 72 and have always loved the Pan,only a dream to own one and learn. My best friend died last week and i thought what the hell life is short, tomorrow is not a promise!used my savings and got one.Now with your help David i will learn,THANK YOU!
Congratulations!
@@DavidUrbanHandpan I am older also and worked my butt off all of my life. Always helping others and finally bought a handpan for myself after saving up and working overtime for 3 months. After some research about poorly made handpans online, I cancelled the handpan I originally ordered from China and found someone close to me in the US and purchased it to support a local maker. Meanwhile China accidentally shipped the handpan that I had cancelled, so I contacted the owner to make arrangements to send it back.
I excitedly picked up my second ordered handpan from the maker in the US ready to learn. He played the scale and it sounded wonderful. I tried and it was bad. He said I just need to practice. I struggled with it for hours not knowing how to strike the handpan. So thank you for your lessons - I kept practicing until I could strike it better, but the two top notes A and C I couldn't successfully strike.
Frustrated, I opened the handpan from China that I am supposed to return - just to see what it looked like and I could compare how they sounded ( Both were D Celtic Minor). It was like night and day! The one from China was so much better for me, despite what reviews on the internet about Chinese handpans.
So I contacted the US maker the next day after I bought it to ask for a refund (Mistake #1 - I paid him cash). Unfortunately he refused to refund- even though his website said he would refund within 3 days. He already spent the money (Mistake #2 - no receipt). So now I am stuck with his handpan and I am more than likely going to tell the maker from China that I will buy his after all and try to sell the other one. The one made in the US is in tune - just the way he made it is impossible for me to hit the A and C note without it sounding dead and flat. Maybe someone else will have better luck with it than I did.
Anyway - sorry for the long rant - just want to let people know to be aware of what you are purchasing and always check about a refund. Also try the beginner lessons - they are so beneficial to people like me just starting out.
If anyone reading this wants a new Celtic D Minor handpan made in the US - let me know and I'll sell it to ya! LOL
Viven, bless, I'm 69 and just done the same.. my new friend will arrive next week :) I used to play percussion with a middle eastern band and I have played a friend's hang drum before.. so I'm looking forward to jumping in !! Hope you're still enjoying yours after this time..
Hi David - Just starting out & wished to thank you for these original lessons .............. FYI they are Still some of the BEST on YT especially with your particular clear & unhurried teaching style
The first 3 lessons are a game changer. Looking forward to moving on in the series. Thank you, David. 🙏
Please make more tutorials sir , i have noticed u dont make these anymore :[ , you are helping alot of ppl who truely love to learn handpan but dont know where to start ♥️
This is so usefull. I did lesson 1,2 and 3 now and am able to make my handpan sing already. Thanks for all the effort you put into this.
Just wanted to thank you again for doing your lessons. For some reason i find your technique easier compared to other teachers more intuitive to the beat rather than note focussed.
You're a good teacher
Something clicked and I really got the strike motion and was able to get into a flow with this lesson. Thank you!
Your hanpan tutorials are amazing. Exactly what I needed to get started. I can find the lesson that is at my level, watch it, then look at the next one to see where I want to improve. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thank you for your tutorials!!! 🤍

I just came to know about this today and the way you teach is just like parents teaching their kids. So detailed and calmly composed . May I know the model you are using ??
I use a variety of handpans and many I have sold already. This one is a Sunset scale D-Minor or Celtic minor, by Daves Island Instruments.
Thank you. This is doable.

Hi, I was wandering on which website did you buy this handpan? I just love this sound!!! Thanks
I bought this pan used, But it's from a company called Dave's Island Instruments in California
What brand are you using and what key. L//A
it's by Dave's Island Instruments, scale is called Sunset. Which is a D minor
@@DavidUrbanHandpan ok, i see thx!
Beautiful, what key is ypour hang drum in?
hi what is your hand pan? and what kind of hand pan would you suggest?
Hey, just got mine and it came with 2 drum sticks with rubber tips. The sound I make while using the drumsticks is crazy compared to when using my fingers, is it better to use hands though? Thanks!
What kind of pan is that? (weird) Short answer: use fingers, not drumsticks!
I still dont understand how each part (circle) is name. Maybe you explained it but i didn't get it. 😥 or is that the same thing as the triangle topic? Are those called the tone fields? Something like that. Im confused but obviously this is my first time watching you so i know i will get it soon thanks
yes, each circle is called a tone field. the triangle is just a patter between the notes that you alternate between.
Are you a left handed?
No, right.
Thank you!!!
Thank You
