It is also the peak of longevity. I have negatives 110 yrs old and color slides 75 years old that are still good. What digital memory devices we have today will be viable 80 years from now?
There is something beautiful about film! It's hard to articulate, but when the print come back you feel something deep down that'll make you shoot film:)
Right on Hashem! Channels like this make a difference. I absolutely hate it too having seen Fuji discontinue on favorite stock after the other. Fuji Pro 160s/c. Gone. Fuji Reala 100. Gone. Fuji Sensia 100. Gone. Yes, I do search on eBay for the odd ball guy who's stored it in his freezer but I definitely love C200, Superia Extra 400 and Pro 400H so I do shoot those. Great video, keep going!
Great video. I think some people still suffer from a sort of an underground syndrome, in the sense of not wanting things to become trendy, as they want to continue feeling special and unique for being into something obscure. Not 'pushing film' goes against our best interest of still having access to film rolls, labs, equipment, etc. I started shooting film very recently (I've never even had a DSLR) and my love for it has spread to a couple of close friends who go out with me to shoot on my cameras and are now considering getting their own.
Good Video, i support this message! Lomo Berlin is Orwo N74+ btw, it is cinefilm from german company orwo, still produced but only available in bulk outside of lomography
I definitely agree with the importance of supporting your local camera/photo store. I am lucky enough to live half an hour from a great store that has an excellent selection of 35 and 120 films in stock.
It's usually either people really amazed or really confused when I say I mainly shoot film. But they see the magic! It is definitely an experience when you have to slow down.
If you ever have a workshop in London, sign me up!!! Also, very glad I started shooting film...it's stretching my muscle as a photographer as a whole in ways I wouldn't have imagined. Glad your videos and a few others helped me get here.
As an old film man, I had to switch to digital around 2001 for work. I kept my film gear and now use the lenses on DSLRs. I'm now trying 'hybrid' photography, which is where I'd shoot film and digitise it with a Macro bellows with enlarger lens on for copying onto a DSLR. These will unleash post processing in Lightroom / Photoshop. I love black & white film photography and hopefully this technique will give me the best of both worlds.
Hope so. It's an exciting prospect. I found this UA-cam movie for copying larger negatives & stitching shots for very large prints: ua-cam.com/video/HfKeW1Lr9P0/v-deo.html
Even though I love digital with my Panasonic G9 and Olympus EM10 mk II, nothing quite beats the experience I get when shooting film. I'm lucky enough I own a few film cameras from the Minolta X700, 9XI, Hi-Matic 7sIi through to my Mamiya C330s and 645 Pro. These days I probably shoot 70% film and 30% digital and it always depends on what I'm doing. Anything like sports/wildlife I'd use the digital but for walking in the hills, to street and portraiture I'd take film as I enjoy the experience far more. Keep up the good work.
Excellent.. I have gone back to film too... Something about film that feels right.. Digital has no sole.. It it like Starbucks... Lets go back to home brew excitement... And Berlin 400 film is great... no end to mid tone greys....
I do my bit as much as I can to keep film alive. shoot both 120 and 35 mm, B&W is my favourite digital is handy and so easy to use but you get such a feeling from shooting film its hard to describe. as well as opening the developing tank after developing your film yourself and seeing the images on the film for the first time..nothing comes close.
Love to be involved in your photography workshop, I used to develop my own black and white in the early 70's 73-75, but came to Australia in 1975, I am 68 now, but I have never attempted to master manual photography. I took my old Ricoh SLR be fully overhauled in the city a couple of weeks ago - I cant wait to get it back. I also have a Nikon D5200 DSLR but I have always left it on "A" so a Manual only workshop would be fantastic.
Thanks mate! Not sure when things like workshops will be able to resume again given the situation... Glad to hear about your Ricoh! Hope you got it back in good order and start putting some film through it :-)
I’m not sure we are at beginning of the end of traditional film photography. I think the decline in film, following the mass adoption of digital, has come to an end and the market is repositioning as a niche but important sector within the photography world. Ilford continue to produce films and chemicals, Kodak seems to have turned a corner, e.g. Ektachrome being reintroduced, Adox is growing and building new production facilities and there are all manner of (mainly B&W “old stock”) new films being introduced. The biggest limitation on the market is the ever dwindling camera stock as no one (absent Leica) still manufacture a film camera. The film community acknowledges this so we have the Kamera Rescue project based in Finland for example. I also think use of film has moved on from just being a “hipster” thing to an alternative to digital in the right circumstances. If you have the time, want to be more engaged with your picture making and like the aesthetic of film (that is difficult to digitally replicate), then shoot film. Otherwise, go for the convenience and flexibility of digital. They both have their place in the photography world today. I certainly enjoy shooting both.
PFW308 I think you are right and film might even be having a swing back towards relevance ... Kodak started making slide film again because they saw a demand for it. And a lot of people are ok with using a film to digital workflow as well.
The loss of the experienced technicians that can work on Leicas, Exaktas and Compur shutters is also an important issue. It took me 3 months to find a technician that could CLA and replace the shutter curtain on my Exakta VXiia. The folder cameras like the Voigtlander Bergheil, Zeiss Ideal and Kodak Recomar are real gems if you can find the right 9x12cm and 120 film holders for them. All they normally need is a shutter CLA. Get used to the Series V and Series VI filter and hood systems for these cameras and find the right push on adapter for the lens you are using.
i was so close to buying an x100f. but i already have a t3i and t4i and i barely use them for photography (only video). i’m an avid 35mm photographer so i decided to pull the trigger and buy a mamiya 7. best decision ever, no buyer’s remorse. since then, i’ve been selling my old 35mm point and shoots so they can be passed on and enjoyed by new analog photographers
I remember when I was around 5 my gran used to buy me point and shoot film cameras, was before digital became such a big thing. Got my first digital point and shoot a few years later, then moved on to a Nikon D5000. Went for an OM-D EM10 a few years ago, then recently got an OM10. Shot my first roll in black and white and just been absolutely hooked since. Just something about it..
I am in Melbourne and how can I sign up for your workshop? I mainly do digital landscape photography but recently got my first film camera. It’s quite an interesting process and I love watching your channel.
I think all of us film photographers had the same experience with our fellow photography friends :P. It's allways to show them the "film experience". Sorry for my English I'm German :D.
I really want to shoot analog, BUT: There´s hardly any analog film available offline where i live (Salzburg, Austria). I only could find Kodak Gold 200 in low quantity. Also analog camera on used market are expensive (mostly 200 - 500 Euro), the cheaper ones are mostly broken/damaged and won´t function properly. Any advice on where I can find analog cameras to buy in Austria or Germany?
Hi Gabriel, looks like you'll have to rely on buying online! I'm not too sure about that part of he world, but I believe Lomography has a headquarters in Vienna, and I'm German you should check out Meinfilmlab
@@pushingfilm thanks for the reply. Well, I've had a look at Lomography already of course, their cameras aren't cheap and most importantly aren't the cameras I'm looking for.
I shot digitally for years until my friend introduced me to film, now 2 years down the line I've got a selection of film cameras and have set up an instagram to share those photos on! more people need to realise how cool film is! great video The instagram is @_digifilm_
Ahahaha yes. I have converted 3 of my friends to shoot analog. They always say it’s soo expensive. I always tell them it’s not expensive that’s how much it costs. Hopefully if enough people start the shoot film the can have faster and cheaper turnarounds for film.
Digital is the peak of convenience. But analog is the peak of the experience.
So well said!

@@johnrflinn absolutely right. My important memories only go on film. And I know they will outlive me .
