A Wista 4 X 5 DX made of rosewood is lightweight and would serve you well. Happy journey!

Patience is the key with medium/large format. Excellent attempts and your images paints a great lesson to us all.

Great video, and I have the same experiences moving up from 120. It's hell to work with, but when you get it right ... damn ...

A Mamiya press camera is also a good choice, it is a 6x9 camera, but it has a lot of the things that you mentioned. And the lenses are good and sharp. It has a rangefinder, but, like a large format, you can also put a ground glass screen on it.
It was one of the most interactive cameras that I had ever used, you have to cock the shutter, advance the film, remove the dark slide, ( and then remember to put it back in). But as someone else said in another comment, all the effort was worth it when you got it right, especially on a large slide, the image was just magical to look at.
Got rid of mine because I used roll film mostly rather than single sheets, so I used the rangefinder mostly. But, the rangefinder was not the best for closeup portraits, because of the parallax error once you got so close. Ended up selling it and got a Bronica ETR camera, and that shoots some pretty great shots, even if it is a smaller negative. But, once in a while, when I see new guys out there with these old warhorses, making some great shots with them, I still miss that old Mamiya Press..........

Nice! I just picked up a 4x5 camera for the first time last week. I got a crown graphic press camera similar to your MPP.
You definitely took a few keepers! I botched my first two shots so I’m planning to get out there and take more. Your 4x5 slides on the light table looked magical 😍

Really nice job! Much greater success than my first 4x5 try, but yes it is a more complex process, and learning curve, but so worth it.
What a beautiful country, I lived in Sydney, as a child, snd also Wellington, NZ.
Thanks for your high quality videos.

Hi, glad you enjoyed the experience. I used to use one of those in the early 1960s. It looks like, tell me if I'm wrong that you had a xenon 150mm lens mounted. Those lenses were notorious for flare and rather that light leeks as you suggested it could just have been flare. I'm digital now but I still own a first world war wooden 2.5×3.5 inch glass plate camera with a f4.5 Tessar lens. It's all wood and brass, you would love it

I really like the colour images, by and large they all turned out great.. Looking forward to the next video. I recently bought medium format purple film, I haven't tried it yet.

Nice video. Look into the Stenopeika field cameras from a guy in Italy. They seem sturdier than the Intrepid, and not too much more expensive depending on which model. The exchange rate here in Canada also works against the pound versus the euro. I got a good deal on a Wista 45dx or would have gone with a Stenopeika. Good luck!

Great video, I’ve always been fascinated with larger format cameras, just never had the opportunity to try one. Love your comment about your “local coast”... my wife and I wish we could be so lucky, not much in the way of water here in Arizona.

Great video. I have and love my Intrepid 4X5 mark 3. It looks like the mk 4 is even better. I shoot with a 150mm and a 75mm.

Oh nice, is it worth getting the 3 instead then?

    • @KalynDavis
      @KalynDavis 5 років тому +1

@@pushingfilm Absolutely! The 3 is JUST as good as the 4. The main benefit of the 4 is the refinements. Does the same job, just smoother.
      I have my 3 that I use a Nikkor 90 SW 4.5, Fujinon WS 150 6.3, and Nikkor 210 W 5.6. I use a 6x17 back as well. LOVE the camera.

@@pushingfilm , I would get the mk4 as the improvements are well worth it. The have a base update to the mk3, that is the mk4 base that I'm looking at.

You should visit Richard White in Mansfield. He does workshops, so you should ask about those.
His camera of choice is an Ebony.
There's also Nick Thorley, somewhere around Melbourne. He has some videos on UA-cam.
