My first husband's mate built the cars for Mad Max and my second husband bought an old xb coupe, painted it black and rebuilt the motor to the max. Cops used to pull me over just to have a look. I miss the beast.
Build another black on black, mine is going to be a mercedes e500 with a supercharger fitted in a w124 coupe series body jet black and chromed maybe lifted slightly in the rear
i like what people do with stuff like this, and they put a lot of work in on it. i've seen the movie a hundred times and can watch it anytime i want, so i dont worry about people creating their own stuff
You know what sux? Not only the fact that this car is so rare ill never be able to drive it or prolly even see it in person in my life time. But i cant even drive this damn car in a video game.
gooood efforts, man! next vid. do one of the opening scene from Road Warrior, the blower scene, not much on time but still it absolutely says it all about max or anyone who values motor power, a suggestion, thanks. Well done.
Driving a car without a an air filter in a country consisting mainly of deserts... What can go wrong? Also, the rear spoiler isn't functional, because the roof spoiler blows all air away, causing the rear spoiler to been in area of vacuum. Whoever designed the car, had no idea about aerodynamics.
Then the third best bit is in that same chase after the blue van gets taken out, Charlie says to Roop: "We're really gonna' get it this time, he had his indicator on!"
His name is Dale B and he's alive and well....just spoke with him on the phone last night actually. He never even got hurt in that scene. he's also the same stuntman that did the famous circle burnout and the burnout on Gooses bike. Nobody died during production
El Batimovil, los autos de rapidos y furiosos, son carritos recortables de papel al lado de esta bestia negra, el mejor automovil visto enla historia del cine..... Saludos de Lima Perú.
GrubcoMedia: Personally, I thought the music choice was PERFECT. This video is about the car itself not the movie 'tho I have to admit hearing that engine rev a few more times would'nt hurt *swoons*. I for one would love to be behind the wheel of a genuine 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe listening to this. ^_^
@LeCutter Too right, mate! the first time I saw this film, I actually goggled the same time Max did at the mention of "600 horsepower through the wheels!" 600 at the wheels?!? That's, what, 650 - 675 at the flywheel easy! I want one! Wardy
As for the movie car, the blower was mounted and elevated over a standard 4BBL carb. The "spin" was made possible by an electric motor. In the video, the yellow bucket inside the engine bay is hiding the motor. The case of the blower was hollow.
No electric motor was used to spin the belt. I've talked with Murray Smith who built the car for the movie. They simply added a longer belt over the idler pulley that was mounted to the swingarm when they needed it "ON". Whne you see the shot where it appears to be getting 'switched on' it's nothing more than the car being started. There was also NO 90 degree elbow on the dizzy. Not sure where you got your info from
I always love that moment where the mechanic states "600 Horsepower through the wheels..." as my o.O was perfectly synchronised with Mel's when I first saw this film!
@MegaAngel85 They built 2. One was a promotions car, the other is the one you see in the movie. There's always persistent rumours that a third was built, and the closest I've heard to verifying it was a replica builder in Perth named Gordon Hayes. Allegedly a third was to be built, were about halfway through it, and they changed their mind. He did a stunningly accurate replica that sits in a museum
Interesting... I saw Mad Max here in germany on TV and also bought it on VHS back in the late '90s. Both versions are apparently cutted; in none of them the death of Toe Cutter was shown like here (overrun by truck)
I don't care if half of it is fake... I drove a coupe belonging to a relative back in 1980 and there is no feeling like it! Dream car, blown or not... Made you feel like king of the road.
@0Zolrender0 I assume you mean the biker in the orange helmet who got hit in the back of the head. I read somewhere that he was knocked out but was revived shortly after and was okay. Are you sure about this? I would think they would have omitted the scene if he had died.
As for the Max car or any other attempt at a "switchable" supercharger, the mileage isnt even relevant. What prevents it from working as shown is the lack of a bypass. Cant get air into the engine if the inlet is blocked by stationary s/c rotors. You need a bypass path with a movable vane or some other air door or some method of allowing the rotors to spin freely inside the case when the s/c is not engaged. That method, however, would create a ridiculous lag and turtle slow acceleration.
100% right. A blower is on all the the time. It can't be disengaged, then "activated" when you want it. After all, the belt that runs it is the belt that runs the whole engine, right? They did that for effect in the movie. It kind of works, because of the cool sound they use for the blower. What a fuckin tough looking car, though, right?
dose anyone know what this car had for a exhaust when this was filmed or where the engine sound comes from if its not the real car i want to make my firebird sound like that,it is just so different than the normal flow master sound everyone runs on old cars there days
I believe you are thinking of the stuntman whom tragically was killed after a motorcycle jump. You can see the front wheel of his bike hitting his head as he comes down. He broke his neck. The director decided to leave it in the film to honour his memory. But I too am very impressed by the sheer amount of "death and destruction" they managed to pull off in this film. All in the days before CGI...
Normally I would throw my laptop out of the window if I happened upon a youtube clip where someone had had the temerity to dub out the sound of a supercharged V8 with music but that somehow works. Touch of nice editing too, so I'll let the music go - but don't EVER do it again you hear?! ;)
They say people don't believe in heroes anymore.
Mel Gibson We'll give them back their heroes.
I say they're wrong
They are wrong

gooood efforts, man! next vid. do one of the opening scene from Road Warrior, the blower scene, not much on time but still it absolutely says it all about max or anyone who values motor power, a suggestion, thanks. Well done.

Awesome video...A huge thanks for putting that together!!!
Then the third best bit is in that same chase after the blue van gets taken out, Charlie says to Roop: "We're really gonna' get it this time, he had his indicator on!"
aw man the best thing about the interceptor is the engine sound
All's cool.....stories often get 'bumped up' over time. You're a lucky man to have met Joanne !!
That's one wicked machine. I just love it!
cool tribute, music suits it well. especially with a lot of the scenes.
His name is Dale B and he's alive and well....just spoke with him on the phone last night actually. He never even got hurt in that scene. he's also the same stuntman that did the famous circle burnout and the burnout on Gooses bike. Nobody died during production

I saw this car once in a car museum, meet your heroes, bucket list day.
I listened to "Highway To Hell" by AC/DC while watching this,it fit so darned well.
'Kick her in the guts Barry'.
The "breathing" sound of the engine starting is worthy of a ringtone!
We're gonna give em back their heroes Max!
straight to replay when finished wow.
Timeless Classic!
Nice info mate. didn't know that where did you get the info from.
Fantastic. Nitro Burnin' Go Juice on da low down crank shaft repetition.
big fan of Mad Max, waiting to see part 4.
Don't sweat it man - loved the soundtrack. Perfect fit.
Bad ass!!! Music goes perfect!
I loved the movie, but this clip was fucking brill, Black Betty really suited the film, well done man, good make! One I shall recommend to many!
Never heard that version of Black Betty before, it's better than the original by far. Great video.
The beast has been unleashed.
It's very good !!!
Very nice video!
Very well done

Sound ROCKS, GrubcoMedia!! no fear! play it and post like ya wanna! Max and even Wez (2) would love that sound. Fear not and turn it up!
@stegaflaps Peter Arcadipane? He's the one that penned the design for the HQ series Belmont, Kingswood, Premier, Monaro and Statesman
Epic win sir :)
filme q marcou toda uma época...excelente........ja ñ fazem filmes como este
True. The sound of the engine is better than any music.
laahst of vee oyts, love that accent.
BTW need to check out the motorhead vid of ace of spades over Max scenes.

Old man max rocketansky need to find the burned up wrecked interceptor and reconstruct from the chasis to the body no nitrous can out run it this time
impressive stunts 5/5
awesome can you get it at the beginning or something?

@Roodosutaa Yes, but it's a 302 or 351 under there. They just chucked that in the script to make it sound more technically advanced
I almost bought an XB Hardtop 351GT in 1982 but thought the $4,500 price too expensive!! Oh the regrets!
great vid featuring the greatest film car ever but rather hear the engine than black betty !!!
thank you
He did not die, he's still perfectly fine. He doesn't even remember getting smacked in the head. That's the value of helmets.

I ...... FREAKING...... WANT ONE!!!!

@gjc82071 I would add "Shaker", the modified pink/black Trans-Am from Shaker Run to that list. It was very bad ass!
one for my most loved movie and tv cars........ eat my dust.
She's the last of the V~8's! She's always ready. She's all Rock~Steady!
