  • I unbox and review a new 30 pint dehumidifier from the company TOSOT. After a few weeks, I’m quite happy with the unit. What sets it apart from other more common, name-brand dehumidifers? Surprisingly the noise level - compared to the Insignia model I reviewed earlier in the channel, this thing is the quietest i’ve owned when on the LOW fan setting. On medium it’s about as loud as my AC unit down in the basement, and on high it’s right on par with the Insignia’s low level - to put it into decibels it’s 48 at its lowest and only goes up to 52 at its highest - which means it won’t be too much of a bother running in the background.
    After a few weeks of running, I have seen a dramatic decrease in the number of disgusting centipedes in the basement. The key to removing them is to decrease moisture levels - and the TOSOT dehumidifier paired with the Insignia unit on the other side of the room does just that.

    When you say it is up to 52 dB at its max noise does that include the noise of the compressor?

    Did the centipedes ever return? Thanks for a great review!

      These buggers are resilient. But dehumidifiers have helped. Didn’t see one in Fall and Winter months - but they come creeping around at night during the Summer season. Dehumidifiers and some glue traps keep most of them at bay. Mine are creeping in from the basement drop ceiling. Gross.

    Is it still working? Most dehumidifiers die after 1 year. Typically from a leak of refrigerant from the (typically) very low quality coils.

      Still rocking and rolling. No issues...except having to dump the water bucket every couple of days during the Summer months. I never installed the pump - mostly due to laziness.

      @@QuickTechReviews Great news. Maybe a TOSOT is in my future. My Frigidaire FFAD5033W1 just died due to a refrigerant leak (no water being removed, frosted bottom coil). It was a replacement for the same model which also died after 1.5 years due to the same problem. I see people on here with 5 or 6 of the same model due to faulty coils. Hopefully the TOSOT has a better coil - it will make all the difference!

      @@MoneoAtreides77 nice - I also have a 70pt Insignia - which is surprisingly still running as well. My random Chinese branded one, Yeufy seems to be on its last legs.

    I have a TOSOT 20 Pint 1,500 Sq Ft Dehumidifier and I am getting 50 db on low fan setting. I only get 31 db from my mini-split. Whoever that says this unit is quiet at low fan setting must not have a good hearing. 50 db is not quiet and it is loud OR did I just get a bad unit???

    Following up 5 months later, how's the centipede issue? did you feel like you had an infestation or just a few?

    • @QuickTechReviews
      @QuickTechReviews  3 роки тому

      The amount of centipedes we had is pretty insane. They're coming in from slits in the drop ceiling. The dehumidifier has definitely cut down on finding them - but our glue traps we have throughout the space still shows a bunch getting trapped. Pretty damn gross actually.

    • @Remeiko
      @Remeiko 3 роки тому

      @@QuickTechReviews how many centipedes are we talking here? We have killed about 10 in the last month, is that excessive? Or low compared to what you are seeing?

    • @QuickTechReviews
      @QuickTechReviews  3 роки тому

      @@Remeiko Dude those are rookie numbers! The area you're seeing them in is either too dark/damp or you have other bugs that they like feeding on. Seal cracks, get a dehumidifier and throw down some glue traps! We've definitely improved our situation but still get the stray 1,000 leg mofo on the wall from time to time.

    • @Remeiko
      @Remeiko 3 роки тому

      @@QuickTechReviews makes sense I dont see any cracks to be honest I think I sealed most things pretty good. The basement isnt dark I have 20 potlights in there lol and fully renoed the floors and baseboards, I didn't encounter any at that time. When the inspector did their due diligence before we bought the house they didn't see any leaks in the basement with the infrared scan. It is "colder" in here than other parts of the house. I will invest in a dehumidifier. But theres a full bathroom in the basement and I don't see any in here. I am hoping I'm lucky. The only bugs I found in this house at all is small spiders. Maybe thats what they're feasting on. How long can these things live without food?

      The LED menu lights are solid - not flashing. The flashing in the video is due to my camera’s shutter speed. Good question!
