Great video! In a few hours I’m doing my great uncle oil change based off this video. I’m no mechanic, but I will get up under that hood worst case lol. Thanks for the info
Thank You !! Love how you get right with the lesson !! When you are needing info you really don't have time to go thru a bunch of words. That's why you get me subscribing to you !! Keep up the good work !! And once more, THANK YOU!
Robert DIY Add this to the description for re-setting the oil light. Turn key to On (not starter)-> Pump pedal 3-5 times full down, let off, fully down. Turn key to off, then on. Light should be reset. Thanks for posting this from TurboBricks~~~
Robert DIY Sorry, accelerator pedal Exact way should be Turn car to On (not starter) Push gas pedal 3 times fully down fully off repeat Oil Change lamp should flash or go off. Turn key off / back on to verify it is off. Sadly I've never seen mine on as I reset it before it came on, or never saw it on yet...if you have one of these don't "pedal pump" them with the key "on" or you wont know when to change yer oils!
Before changing the filter, you can fill the engine with cheap oil and run it for an hour. This will clear up any residual oil and carbon inside the oil system. Afterwards, do a full oil change with the oil of your choice.
I'm a first time car owner, and was looking forward to watching the whole process of pouring the oil and especially for me; seeing how to properly remove and replace the oil filter.
How many miles on that Lumina? Did you find out why the oil was brown. I own a 2000 Lumina that I bought in Florida. It had never gone up a hill until I reached Georgia. That old transmission groaned at first, but got back here to NH with no issues. My car has 63000 miles on it. Out of my "fleet" of cars it runs the best. They are great cars. Thanks for the great video. My oil pan is draining those last nasty drops as I type.......
The oil filter is hard to remove because the car manufacturer (of course) has no concept of tool clearance. I had to buy one of those filter wrenches that have a set of jaws that automatically adjust instead of the old loop type. Well worth the $7 investment.
How long do you think a oil filter on a Lumina can last ? I believe my Lumina has a oil leak and I've been topping off a bit I'm due for a oil change but been holding off. I'm about 30miles over my recommend mileage for a change
Thanks. I inherited a 97 Chevy Lumina w/ 70K original miles. What a pain in the ass it is to work on. Took over an hour just to change the battery. Here's how to shop for a car imho: 1) open the hood 2) if you cannot easily see the battery, all spark plugs, and the oil filter, close the hood and walk away.
Green Genes I just bought a '96 Lumina yesterday, and the car shut down on me the same day. I spent $1,250 and the guy does not want to refund me my money....smh.
They apparently go through periods where they are money pits. I had to replace the fuel pump (no codes), most of the sensors under the hood, and the starter. It also had an issue of blowing oil out the sensor port, which I never heard of before. Mine sat for a year before I started driving it so that might be the reason I had most of those problems. It is running now, reliable, and doesn't use too much gas although not as good on mileage as my old 91 Dodge Spirit was. Find a good mechanic. Look for an older guy who has a lot of tattoos and is familiar with older cars. They know all the stuff that isn't documented in the repair manuals.
No. I've heard from other Lumina owners who claimed to have gotten over 200k miles out of them. I'll admit I hated the car at first but now that its running good, I have no complaints. They are hard to diagnose as far as the issues go so I hope you do have a good mechanic.
thanks mr. robert. it was helpful. by me being a woman, I get charged double for a tune up.Now I can do it myself. Where are you at in Ohio I'm from Ohio 2!!!

You can do it!
Real detail thank you Robert !
You are very welcome
Tysm for this my oil pan bolt is stuck any suggestions on how to take it off?
Ouch, have a mechanic get it out so you don't damage the oil pan. They will likely use an air hammer.
@@RobertDIY thanks they got it out
I’m 26 and still don’t know how to change my own oil. I know sad 😭. But this was helpful ❤️❤️
thanks for watching.

Robert DIY Add this to the description for re-setting the oil light.
Turn key to On (not starter)-> Pump pedal 3-5 times full down, let off, fully down. Turn key to off, then on. Light should be reset.

Robert DIY Sorry, accelerator pedal
Exact way should be
Turn car to On (not starter)
Push gas pedal 3 times fully down fully off repeat
Oil Change lamp should flash or go off. Turn key off / back on to verify it is off. Sadly I've never seen mine on as I reset it before it came on, or never saw it on yet...if you have one of these don't "pedal pump" them with the key "on" or you wont know when to change yer oils!

They stopped making Luminas in 2001.

I think it was a intake manifold leak.

I need to replace Upper transmission cooler lines are there any videos for that on a 1999 Chevy Lumina
+Hugh Hill I have no idea.

2 years.
Does the 3.1L lumina have two oil filters? I noticed that mine was inches above the frame and impossible to remove with taking something else off.
+Roland Delphi not to my knowledge.
thanks for the information, but hopefully next time kindly show the process how to take out oil filter..
This one is the same for the filter: Basic Oil Change Video - Lexus ES 330 - Auto Repair Series
Hi, what do the rates ($22 / $30 / $45) mean? DIY/avg.mechanic/dealer costs ?
Yes, that is the formula. Educated guess.
moparmania74 I wouldn't go too cheap on oil and filters, you don't want your engine to wear prematurely...
We got the cheapest stuff we could find to test for a bad motor, which this car had.
Wutz good Rob?!
Thanks for watching.
great what size motor is in your lumnia
Sad to say, I have no idea. I was looking at this for a friend.

LOL, probably the best advise I've had all year.

+Jeanette Carver I visit my daughter in Cincinnati. I'm sure no one would change you double for a tune up. Stop saying that. ;)
Ur not n my shoes. But thank anyway
I was just kidding. I know mechanics can be brutal sometimes.
