Absolutely my favorite stitch... HDC. For looks and speed. I like that it's got some depth for warmth. DC is off my list for blankets and garments. No warmth and too stretchy. I've always favoured HDC for looks as well. Can't wait to make this for ME. Thx.
I love the look of it too. And I really love the speed of it! You're right - the HDC helps with the warmth, which is necessary for blankets AND sweaters! Have fun with this one. :)
I made this cardigan in Small for my 22 yo daughter. Super easy to follow. I used the comfy cotton blend in color Chai Latte. The sleeves seemed super long. My daughter (5’5” will definitely have to roll the sleeves up. I ended up putting a single crochet around the collar and using a reverse (crab stitch) as a final row to give it a “finished look”. Also, with the pockets being side entry, I stitched up the bottom ribbed edge about 2” so nothing can fall out (mainly phone and keys). I would love to share the finished product with you but I can’t see where I can add a picture with this comment. Thanks so much for sharing your pattern. I was so happy with the final result.
I'm working on this pattern right now and it definitely has seams, just not on the sides. The shoulders are sewn to the back, and then the sleeves, collar, and pockets are sewn on separately. I haven't quite gotten to that step yet, but they look pretty simple. She goes into a lot of detail on exactly how to seam all the pieces together in part two of the video (it's not on UA-cam yet, but it's posted on her blog).
I love this cardigan. I have been wanting to try a cardigan that works the front and back panels as one piece. I’m going to make this one for my mom. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hello! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I LOVE this cardigan! The yarn is sooo comfortable and the colors are beautiful! However, I must warn beginners that this is not beginner friendly! There are too many steps and one too many pieces to sew onto the garment! So, to you beginners out there, for your sanity😁, I'd start with a very simple cardigan pattern (using this yarn) to practice and then come back to this one. It will definitely be worth it!
Love this cast on. Will use it for my next project. Looks like it will make the foundation row a little more flexible than doing the standard chain row beginning (hope that made sense). The cardigan is beautiful. Thanks for the video. L
I've never made a Cardi before and this is perfect timing! I've been wanting to use that yarn to make something with. I'm excited to get the yarn and get started. Thanks for the pattern and video.
I love cardigans! And have been crocheting up a storm lately! I can’t wait to get started on this, I think I’m going to order the kit, and get the Fireside color. The colors are so rich and pretty!!
My video stops before attaching the second front and there is no video on how to do the sleeves. Does one exist? The next video I see is Part 2 for the collar. Thanks. Love the pattern!

I am sewing cardigan together now. I used Lion Brand Comfy cotton Spring Meadow. I will have quite a bit left over. Would this 50/50 cotton be ok to use for wash or dish cloths? Thank you for an excellent pattern and instructions and easy to understand tutorial.
I really enjoyed this tutorial. Will you please clear up something for me, I'm right handed, will the wrong side of my garment(s) always have my starting tail (where the foundation chain starts) on my right hand side. Thanks a million.
Forgive me for asking some basic questions but, as a newby... I have to ask. At about 2:00 you start your chain by putting the hook over the yarn, and at about 6:22, you start the stitch by putting the hook under the yarn and hook the yarn... saying that is a 'yarn over.' Is there a right or wrong way to approach the yarn to start a stitch? Thanks for the great site and pattern. I'm hoping to learn a lot here.
Hey! Great eagle eyes! You know, honestly, I just learned one way of yarning over that isn't very typical and sometimes I struggle to break the habit and do it the typical way. I try to be consistent in my videos so as not to confuse people, but I think you caught me in one of my quirks. All that said, it doesn't make any difference to how it looks, so just carry on the way you know how. :)
Hi. This is my first attempt at a sweater. My starting chain was 134. . I’m following guidelines for the size medium. I’m petite and have 36 bust. I’m using the same yarn as in pattern and k hook. After working many rows it seems too wide. It measures 50 inches wide. I am on row 27 and need to do 41 rows before the decrease begins. Just feels like it’s gonna be huge. Any suggestions?
Me encanta tu canal y Ya Me he suscrito! El problema es que no entiendo tu idioma, ya que hablo en Español. Podrías poner los subtítulos en Español? Gracias y un saludo! 😃
Hey Rosario, I'm honestly not sure because I've only designed it with a category 3 yarn and using a cat 6 would change the pattern entirely. My best suggestion would be to look at the schematic measurements in the ad-free PDF and use those and your own gauge swatch to figure out how to meet the given measurements. :)
Hey Liz, you can def make this one! You can use any type of category 3 yarn, just make a gauge swatch to see if you need to adjust your hook size. (You can find the pattern gauge listed in the free written pattern linked in the description above.) :)
Thank you! Most category 3 yarns should work, just make a quick gauge swatch to see if you need to adjust your hook size to meet the pattern gauge (which is listed in the free written pattern linked in the description area above.) :)
I have never made a garment before but I am going to try this. Is your wool dk or Aran? We don't have wool with numbers just type. You explain everything very thoroughly and I have subbed. Tfs 😘😊🤗
Hey! It's a Dk weight yarn. Checking yarnsub.com might be a good way to see what yarns you can get your hands on that are similar to this yarn (Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend) :)
Nope, whatever size you need to achieve the pattern gauge is okay. So much of crochet is personal and related to how tightly you naturally make your stitches, etc, that checking your gauge and adjusting your hook is the perfect way to start every pattern!
Diane Toma I've had to do 3 swatches. First with a 6.5mm (K), then a 6 (J), and just now a 5.5 (I). To get the correct gauge I'll need to use a 5.5 (I) also. I'm mostly a knitter, but do enjoy doing a crochet project, usually toys, every now and then. Saw this lovely cardigan pattern and I couldn't resist! Thanks to the Make & Do Crew for the pattern and the tutorial! : ) I can't believe my tension is off by two hook sizes! When I knit I always seem to make the gauge with the recommended sized needles.
HELP!!! i started this tonight as I love it. Im using ARAN wool and 6.5mm hook and followed 1X size....after doing 2 rows it is going to fit an elephant!! - its massive...holding it round my waist - advice please :-)
Hey Jennifer, well no elephant deserves your handmade sweater! ;) Have you made a gauge swatch? I'd recommend doing that before diving into the full sweater so you can see if you need to adjust your hook size for the yarn you're using. The gauge is listed in the written pattern which you can find here: makeanddocrew.com/up-north-crochet-cardigan-pattern-for-beginners/

Love the video but you didn't show how to do the sleeves, collar or the pocket :((( I was so excited to do this sweater :( I can NOT read or understand pattern's to save my life!! Bummer!!
This is only part one I'm sure there will be a part two where she will show how to do all that.
@@TheGreennblue There is a part 2 video and I'm sorry no she don't :((
Stacie, she will post a part two in a week or so. This is just the part one video. I've don't other sweaters of hers and she always does. So don't worry it's coming!
On her blog she has two separate posts and there is a video for each. The second video shows the collar, pockets, and seams. You can watch the second video now on her blog if you don't want to wait for her to post it here: makeanddocrew.com/how-to-crochet-long-sleeve-cardigan-video-part-2/
Stacie Mace I am looking for the sleeves too. Do anyone have any idea where to find it
"Your" website crashes more than windows 95 did, why
Hmm, I'm not sure? I haven't heard that problem from anyone else, so I'm not sure exactly what's causing it for you. Perhaps try a different internet browser on your computer?

makeanddocrew.com/up-north-crochet-cardigan-pattern-for-beginners/ Here's the pattern.
Why would I want to pay $15.99 per month for one pattern and video??
Hello, I'm not sure what you are referring to. If you'd like the free pattern, just click on the link in the description box below the video. That will take you to the blog post, and then you can scroll down to where you see the black title "Up North Beginner Crochet Cardigan Free Pattern," and that is where the free pattern is. The video tutorials are also on the blog posts. Hope that helps!
😍
🍃❤️😍👍🏻🥰
It doesn’t actually show you how to make the sleeves, where is the video to show you how to make the sleeves
