Very rare to roll with another one,I haven’t came across another turtle guy in the last 14 years. Went to Eduardo Telles gym to learn more of it and then the pandemic hit the next day.
The norm is everyone wants to dominate, smash and submit and win right. But when you have people doing things differently like this people start to get irritated or frustrated because they never think the unexpected. This defensive bjj style indeed works, it’s not perfect but it works. You’re shutting down a lot of attempts like attacks, passes ect. It’s a game of ultimate patience and timing. Instead of falling into the opponent’s game you easily make them fall into your game. Now obviously in competition it’s different and it requires a lot of game planning and training and time to test it in the competition scene vs in class training and rolling. But I love this style of BJJ because if you can’t beat em, make em work for it😆. Why rush for things when you can make the rush come to you with ease. It’s a psychological game and it works.
That’s awesome, I totally agree with you. You’ve really hit the nail on the head. And it’s exciting to see that this technique is constantly evolving. Not sure if you’ve heard, but Turtle 2.0 was recently released. The creator, known for submitting numerous opponents, has shifted to a much more aggressive, offensive stance. He’s utilizing the Turtle position to seamlessly transition into double legs, almost like a wrestler. It’s fascinating and definitely amps up the excitement. This isn’t the passive approach of the original Turtle; it’s an offensive Turtle game. If you’re curious, you should definitely check it out on grapplinginstructionals.com. It’s a fresh take on the Turtle strategy. Much more offensive
One of my grappling buddies started using this system as well and it was so irritating to deal with. However, it just added to my overall experience of attacking and defending and I also learned a few of the tricks too.

because people cant wrestle these days. turtle is so simple to breakdown, they arent using head pressure to assist in seperating arms, or hunting unorthodox submissions from here, D'arce all day and when that fails chase the back, then transition to brutish wrestling top open a gap and then back to technical sub attacks. these guys want to win a positional battle when he has already given up such a vulnerable position. I'm rather tall, and rarely attack the back when facing a turtle opponent because i slide over the top easily. Got a question - this is very interesting to me because I love techniques that most people are not experienced with. Taking a person to a place where you are very experienced , and they are not , is an great strategy . So I want to get good at Pritt’s techniques. My only issue is that I am not nearly as flexible as you, and not good at inverting. My question is - how much flexibility does your transition from turtle to Leglocks take? Is it more of just a forward roll? Or does it take a lot of flexibility ? I am willing to stretch and get more flexible, but that will take several months, and I want to start working on these techniques now. Also, can you show me a link to your instructional ?
Thank you for your question. Hard to say about flexibility. As we stretch and work on our flexibility we ultimately get to where we wanna come. In MMA you can't hit the back of the head. Eventually the opponent would back away and the ref will stand the turtle up. In a street fight a soccer kick should do the trick.
i played lots of turtle in the 2000's n won some important purple belt matches with it - its much stronger offensively in the gi, the outside pants grip and sleeves allow for much easier jump over sweeps - see telles vs jacare gi match Copa do Mundo de Jiu-Jitsu 2005 ,,,, i now only go to turtle to avoid the pass vs pulling it. too many people @ blackbelt will just do basically nothing n rack up advantages if they really respect your turtle (usually in the tournament people will see your game and gain respect at that level) and if you catch a reversal its not points. i just go to open guards then if they pass i never ever have to be 3 points down in side control -- oh small note: turtleing off a pass often leads to your defensive structure having weaknesses as you turtle. the opponent will be trying to stop you. which leads to a slower less organized shape as you turn over possibly allowing a hook or bad grip (to me its not scary for guys like us but its definitely not optimal)
There’s always that one rare turtle guy in every gym. I use it for 60 seconds to guage your strength and skill, if you can not open my turtle, you gonna be in trouble. The turtle is a trap. 😄
What would you end up doing against a front headlock position of your hands are kept that low? Is that something you might be baiting? Also I enjoyed the video and will probably add some attacks from turtle to my own practice!

Unless you wanna try something new and see if you can materialize your vision of entering a tournament to try something you have been practicing on. Try it out Zachary - it’s unusual and if nothing else, with time you really get a boost in confidence when it comes to protecting your back.
Regarding the “bad gameplan” comment: Getting mounted is also a “bad gameplan”. Regardless .... sometimes it happens. Therefore people train mount defense/escapes. See the logic: Everybody trains offence…. then tries to pull that offence off in competition. Somehow that is ok. I train a lot of defence (ie: turtle) and wanted prove that I could pull it off in competition. The only course of action that I had was to pull turtle in comp, to prove that I can indeed pull it off.
playing jiu jitsu this way is like kicking in the balls...might be effective but it's cheap sh!t that real men don't do. Wouldn't work for self defense either which is a big part of BJJ. Doesn't mean I won't try to pull some of this sh!t next practice, I have no shame, bc that was hilariously effective.
Pretty sure he was making a point to win the entire comp pulling turtle to demonstrate what he’s showing in his instructional. More people should have fun and set silly goals in comp imo. Turtle as a way to prevent side control, mount, or the back being taken is very effective in mma and self defense, assuming you have quick transitions to standing or top position out of it.

i played lots of turtle in the 2000's n won some important purple belt matches with it - its much stronger offensively in the gi, the outside pants grip and sleeves allow for much easier jump over sweeps - see telles vs jacare gi match Copa do Mundo de Jiu-Jitsu 2005 ,,,, i now only go to turtle to avoid the pass vs pulling it. too many people @ blackbelt will just do basically nothing n rack up advantages if they really respect your turtle (usually in the tournament people will see your game and gain respect at that level) and if you catch a reversal its not points. i just go to open guards then if they pass i never ever have to be 3 points down in side control -- oh small note: turtleing off a pass often leads to your defensive structure having weaknesses as you turtle. the opponent will be trying to stop you. which leads to a slower less organized shape as you turn over possibly allowing a hook or bad grip (to me its not scary for guys like us but its definitely not optimal)
Excellent
Thank you!
good sport technique
Yeah, and it’s good to get good at defending from the turtle 🐢 You don’t need to stay there obviously, but as a transitional position he’ll yeah!
There’s always that one rare turtle guy in every gym. I use it for 60 seconds to guage your strength and skill, if you can not open my turtle, you gonna be in trouble. The turtle is a trap. 😄
thanks for mentioning Eduardo Telles and stealing his nickname.
Eduardo Telles is a friend. 🙏
What would you end up doing against a front headlock position of your hands are kept that low? Is that something you might be baiting? Also I enjoyed the video and will probably add some attacks from turtle to my own practice!
Anytime the hands come in there is a little surprise 🤩 thanks for the comment🙏

Alk fun and game until they brake your spjne with a rolling back take
To do that you need at least some established hooks
Why not just win 🥇
he did
why not play active turtle right away 🙄
just tombstone the turtle and gg
Not that simple🔥
This was hilarious 😂😂 it amazes me when people get so pressed in the comments about “it’s wouldn’t work in a real fight” like bro this is a sport 🙄
That’s the problem.
In real fight turtle 🐢 goes for “iron fists” technique.
It's the kind of bjj i hate and wish didn't exist. Rules should allow for some punches when theres this kind of guard
or you could just try to see it as a challenge and try to get the tap :)
I mean you may as well butt-scoot around. Actually, butt-scooting has more moxy than this as you'd at least be advancing on the opponent.
insane.... osssss
Wow. You have made me hate BJJ.
And turtles.
I want to kick a turtle now.
Jumpy rabbit 🐰, you won’t be able to run after your attempt. 🤣🤣🤣
Duznt werk in da streetz 🧐
On a Rabbit 🐰 streets one pulls drunk panda 🐼 guard.
And it doesn’t work against 3 ninjas 🥷 with nunchaku and shuriken either.
No disrespect, Question...what level/belts is this? Your neck looks really exposed to RNCs and neck attacks???
Interesting tactic...
Black belt now but this was at brown belt. Yeah that’s a common misconception😊 This is a step by step setup to get to the submission. It’s all available on grapplinginstructionals.com attacking from turtle instructional. There is currently a combo that features both defensive and offensive tacktics. Check it out if you wanna know more.
@@Grapplinginstructionals cool...thanks
I don’t think this will work against a Gordon Ryan or a Craig Jones homie
Eduardo Telles spoiled jiu jitsu.
This is horrible for Jiu Jitsu to have this as game plan, smh
Unless you wanna try something new and see if you can materialize your vision of entering a tournament to try something you have been practicing on. Try it out Zachary - it’s unusual and if nothing else, with time you really get a boost in confidence when it comes to protecting your back.
Regarding the “bad gameplan” comment:
Getting mounted is also a “bad gameplan”. Regardless .... sometimes it happens.
Therefore people train mount defense/escapes.
See the logic:
Everybody trains offence…. then tries to pull that offence off in competition. Somehow that is ok.
I train a lot of defence (ie: turtle) and wanted prove that I could pull it off in competition.
The only course of action that I had was to pull turtle in comp, to prove that I can indeed pull it off.
I want to hate so bad !!! Damn it, I love it !!!!!
Thank you🙏
Be cool if the other person turtles too
fuck that's elite
Thank you 🙏
playing jiu jitsu this way is like kicking in the balls...might be effective but it's cheap sh!t that real men don't do. Wouldn't work for self defense either which is a big part of BJJ. Doesn't mean I won't try to pull some of this sh!t next practice, I have no shame, bc that was hilariously effective.
That’s hilarious 🤣 love the comment!
It’s not exactly like kicking in the balls. Ask 100 dudes what they would rather experience and you will notice a clear distinction. Lol
@@SlurpGoblinYou are so right 🙌🙌🙌
if you want you can just imagine that in each of these fights raoul got taken down to side control and then turned into turtle to escape
If it works it works ☺️🤙
Yes indeed so 🙏👍🙌
