It bothers me when people are like "Ariel is stupid because she gave her legs up for a man" because Part of That World was before she even met him. She already wanted to be on land, was already fascinated and obsessed. Eric AND her dad's rejection made her decide to go through with it.

"Just kill her!" A little fun fact for you here... in the original draft of this script, Ursula and King Triton were brother and sister, but they cut that for time. It is included in the Broadway version though. So I think that may be making him hesitant to kill her
Yes, those are all his daughters. Seven of them, representing the seven seas. Also, my brother-in-law used to sing "Kiss the Girl" at my hubby back when we were dating cuz I was his first ever girlfriend.
Yes, king Triton actually rules the Atlantic Ocean. His kingdom, Atlantica, is located there. Oh, and Eric missed because he was in the water. It’s not that easy, especially if you’re not trained. Also, I think that Ariel is happy, it’s shown in the sequel that she’s still quite close to the sea and her family) And I think that her becoming human was more logical, because Eric is shown as the only heir to the throne in his kingdom. Well, his parents aren’t there either, so maybe he’s already a ruler, but the point stands anyway: if he becomes a merman and leaves, his kingdom will be left without a king. And Ariel is the youngest of the seven daughters of Triton, so it’s fine for Atlantica if she leaves.
I was just going to suggest Finding Nemo. I never saw Shark Tale, but it's good to know that Finding Nemo isn't the only movie breaking the stereotype!
Triton thought Ariel had fallen for a Merman, Sebastian blurted out that she'd fallen for a human instead. That line from Ariel "Why don't you go tell my father? You're good at that!" was so savage because she called him a grasser and expressed how angry she was with him. The creatures in Ursula's lair was probably seaweed. Ursula took Ariel's voice because that was how Eric identified her so she made it more difficult for Eric to know for sure that it's her. She also used her voice to trick him when she disguised herself as Vanessa. The ending in the book was very different to this film. Eric did in fact marry someone else, Ariel's sisters came with a knife they got from the sea witch and said that if she uses it to kill the prince she will turn back into a mermaid and can return to the sea. Ariel couldn't do it so she went to the pier, threw herself into the ocean, dissolved into sea foam and died.
There’s some sharks that’ll come up to divers just because they want to be petted. Also they’ve got this insane sensory system on their nose that’s really sensitive, and if you touch it in the righ place, they’ll go into a state called tonic immobility - they literally go tail up, it’s so cute. Big sea puppies, they are. 🥰
It's nice to see a guy who's comfortable talking about this. Like I haven't kissed anyone either and most people assume I've already had boyfriends 😂 Hey, I'm attracted to voices too xD
I see so many people group Triton in the “bad parents” category; even seen someone put him in the same pool as Mother Gothel. 😓 I am SO glad you saw his growth in this!! 💖 He had some issues to begin with, but that’s exactly the point - and I’d say he was the one to grow as a character the most. Ariel’s arc was more about defeating her circumstances, which was no small feat either!
Triton was actually a good parent and reacted like how any parent would. Ariel was a child she was only 16 and he was wary of humans because his wife died because of humans. I don't really see how he is a bad parent, but then again they say that once you start agreeing with the parents in the movies that's when you know you grew up already. I think as kids we can see how Triton can be seen as a "bad father" but now that we are older we understand how he acted. Also At least he let his youngest daughter be happy on land.
@@sudsysoap YES! thank you I completely agree I know this is an old comment but I'm glad to see it mentioned. humans are incredibly dangerous. Eric was just as likely to kill her or capture her and locked in a fish tank on land to make money off of her. she was very very lucky he didn't. as a kid I thought King Triton was unreasonable too but now as an adult I am 100% on his side lol
@@WhitneyDahlin yup! Triton was just trying to protect his daughter, literally the last time a mermaid (her mother) was on the surface they got killed by humans, cant blame him. I would have been horrified too if my child was up there
@@sudsysoap I don't disagree. I definitely was more harsh with him as a kid, but growing up I realize that yes, it's understandable why he's so paranoid but that doesn't justify him being overprotective with Ariel, any parent that does that will alienate their kid and he did break her stuff which he didn't need to do.
@@alopex7430 i should have been more specific😅 i agree with you. Triton is a more of a good parent than a bad one (for reasons i have already stated) but no parent is perfect and everyone makes mistakes that they regret. Yes it was “wrong” of him to destroy her things but i wouldnt say him not allowing her to go up to the surface is being “overprotective” just protective like i said her mother died the last time everyone was free to go up to the surface and its extremely reasonable why he wont let her go up there again. Its also reasonable why he had a grudge against humans during that time. However like i said he did realize his mistakes and regretted them. Theres literally a scene where he’s alone and upset saying “what have i done” and in the end he did let her be happy on land. Which is why overall he should be seen as a “good” parent. The only real “wrong” thing he did was destroy her things and over react thats it
"I probably wasn't even an egg" Me: Knowing that girls are born with all their eggs- No but seriously, I loved this film when I was little. I had a major crush on Prince Eric even though, looking back, he's a little bland. I've always kept him as my type though! Black hair and blue eyes... *sigh*
Ehh I dunno. I feel like he’s got more character than most Disney princes, especially for an older movie. He’s also one of the only characters in Disney canon, let alone a prince, to murder the villain. He def gets points for that imo lol
Ariel is my favorite Disney princess of all time, she's really adventurous and doesn't mind change if anything she encourages it. Super excited to watch your reaction to this movie:)
I always thought she was the most horrible princess but I really liked the songs. The fact that she decided to pick a guy she hadn't even met yet over her family who loves her made my 8 year old self scream at the tv and proclaim my love for my sister and parents. Lol. I was a strange kid.
@@taylorlane8257 It wasn't just about a guy. Ariel was always fascinated about the human world even before she met Eric. Eric was just dare I say "a part of that world." Plus her father hasn't exactly shown much love when keeping her isolated and destroying her collection.
3:40 "I hope this is the last time we're on land" You're so going to hate this movie LOL Fun fact: the only way Disney was able to make Little mermaid and the rest of the Renaissance was because the Great mouse detective was a success both critically - both for story, characters, 2D art in the beginning of cgi- and financially. It's also Vincent Price's favorite role. They said it's the second time a mouse saved the studios.
What I knew was if this movie, the little mermaid, wasn’t a success the studio would close down. But it was super successful and they were able to keep going
Decades passed and the soundtrack still gives me goosebumps ❤️ RIP Howard Ashman …”who gave a mermaid her voice and a beast his soul” Ps- 7 sisters, 7 seas
Also, The little mermaid was a fave fairytale as a child, having it been told to me before even watching the movie. In Denmark we do get the real HC Andersen fairytale though, the one with mermaid suicide, so the happy ending was a great twist as a child. :P
I personally loved the Andersen story, she doesn't become a human because she "fell in love" at first sight of a cute man, she was looking for a soul, which only could have if a human fell in love with her, at the end even if she dies she got a soul which was she was looking for.
A little sad fact for you, Sebastian's voice actor, Samuel E. Wright passed away on the 25th of May 2021, watching this movie again just made me think of that, I think his voice is great, especially in the song under the sea
Ursula was originally a mermaid princess and the daughter of King Poseidon, named after the original sea goddess. Her back-story is similar to Ariel because she had a beautiful singing voice and lost her mother who had been killed by a pirate
I laughed so hard at your comment on Ursula's booty🤣 great reaction Welchy. I agree with you on voices and finding them attractive. I always loved singing along to the Disney movies growing up, so much so that my family and neighbors got annoyed with how much I was singing.
"I wonder what ocean he rules under." My guess would be the Atlantic for 2 reasons: 1- It's based on a story by Hans Christian Anderson, who was Danish, and the Atlantic Ocean is the closest to Denmark. And 2- The underwater kingdom Triton rules is called Atlantica (established, I believe, in the sequel.
and can we acknowledge the fact that MAX KNEW IT WAS HER THE WHOLE TIME. he gave her puppy kisses on the boat, nearly gave her away (cuz that would've been a bad thing 🙄) on the beach, and is the one who found her after she came ashore.
"I didn't know you were allowed to bring dogs on boats" I don't know about dogs. That probably depends on the captain and the shipmaster. Though Eric is a prince, so I guess if he wants to bring his dog on board, who's going to tell him no? It would be a fairly common practice though to keep a cat on board to control the rodent population.
there are dogbreeds specially for catching rodents- chihuahuas, terriers, pugs (not the modern kind of breed, they had noses and snouts in the olden days), you can look it up but cats are not exclusive to this
@@memyselfandi7782 I would have said that maybe its only cannibalism if they eat like from their own species but then I realized species to them is like race to us humans so
Fun fact, the guy who voiced Eric (who was 16 when he recorded his stuff for this movie!) also voiced Peter Parker in the 90s Spider Man cartoon! Which was every 90s kid's childhood 😂
If you're interested in the sequel/prequel to this movie I recommend Ariel's Beginning. It takes place before the events of The Little Mermaid and is about the relationship between Ariel and her family. The other sequel is about Ariel, Eric, and their daughter but personally I think you'd like the prequel more-both are good movies though so who am I to judge lol. Even if you don't react to them, I just thought I'd let you know about them both in case you were interested. 🥰
"Can we use forks for everything?" As someone who would frequently pretend I was Ariel when I was a kid, let me tell you... forks are not good for brushing hair.
The thing about Ursula's deal with Ariel is that she deliberately timed it for when Ariel would be the most open to suggestion. The girl just had a huge fight with her dad, her sisters think she's weird and aren't quiet about it, and her dad even destroyed a collection she valued. What's more, Ariel is a teenager at that point where that kinda argument is going to make anything sound better. Ursula is a very good manipulator, and struck when she'd be the most likely to make a rash, stupid decision and even made it sound like Ariel not having her voice would only improve her chances of getting what she wants. That woman has got the charisma and brains to be very dangerous, which is probably why so many people still love her.
I loved how you stubbled across the original story. 😂 Yeah, the original fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen was very different. It’s still a good story, but pretty dark.
I totally get the whole attracted to voices. Some actors just make me uncomfertable just by their voice, and i'm like, i can't watch this in a pajama i need to look more presentable to listen to whatever movie/show i'm on. Like Cillian murphy, Alan cumming, Matthew gooden and other actors. Idk is that super weird? Yes, yes it is.
disney set this story in the caribbean islands, specifically the virgin islands. they were named after saint ursula and her 80 (?) virgins, which are why ursula got her name. also it's why sebastian is a caribbean crab, flounder is a colourful fish found in coral reefs. back then it was called the danish-west-india because denmark colonized part of these islands in the 17th century. if you think about it, they white-washed ariel lol
fun fact (but a little obvious) vanessa who was ursula in juman form is actually meant to look a little bit like ariel. and the same voice actress for ariel, jodie benson, also plays vanessa since ursula did take her voice. i just think jodies talent is amazing because she didn’t sound “like” ariel at all!!!!
100% with you on the need for more shark love. Seriously misunderstood creatures, and so unfairly demonized. For one, there are hundreds of species out there, and only about five such species have any noteworthy record for biting people. For another, fatal attacks by sharks happen maybe ten times a year at most. They're so statistically insignificant, they may as well never happen. Your life would be in more danger around literally any typical barnyard animal. Sharks are beautiful and amazing creatures, and they deserve to be seen in a more positive light.
"What is the real story?" Everyone: *nooooooooo* I love seeing people watch things for the first time that I've seen a million times. Your delight is so fun to watch, and you're just stinking adorable.
Love how when Ariel is on the rock singing the “Part of Your World Reprise” she says “I don’t know when and I don’t know how” she immediately contradicts herself by saying “but I know something is starting right now”. Now is an answer to the question of When.
I never thought about what Ariel eats since she is friends with other sea animals. I remember Daryl Hannah in Splash (you should check out of you never have) but she was a mermaid and there is a scene where she just devours a whole lobster in a restaraunt
I love seeing someone reacting to an old for "kids" disney movie at a much older age to see their perspective. I loved this movie so much when I was little even now I guess. Im 15 my sister is 21 my brother's 19 we still watch this from time to time XD We didn'r really give that much honest reaction as a older viewer since we have seen it when we were younger.
I actually had an idea for a fanfic that focuses on King Triton while Ariel is gone. After three days of searching, there is still no sign of Ariel, with Triton's subjects completely exhausted, and nowhere left to look. Frustrated, Triton goes to search for Ariel himself, and his search eventually leads him to the surface, as Ariel would often go there against his wishes. While there, Triton sees a happy human family playing on the beach, and seeing their love for one another triggers a memory of Triton's own family from when his wife was still alive. There may even be a moment where a member of the human family helps a fish that had washed up on the beach back into the water, much to Triton's shock. In this moment, Triton sees in this human family, his OWN family, and finally realizes that humans are not unfeeling barbarians, but actual PEOPLE. Realizing at last how terrible he'd been, Triton is utterly ashamed of his previous actions, and gives up his search for Ariel, believing that he doesn't deserve to get her back, and that she'd be better off without him. But then, Sebastian arrives to tell him about Ursula, spurning him back to action.
I liked the first part but also I don't think any parent would just give up on their kid especially a minor. + triton only hated humans and thought they were dangerous because his wife died BECAUSE of humans. For the most part your story could end with him thinking that he will let her be for a while and would think that she will be just fine and he can try again in searching later on (rather than him thinking she's better of without him, cause that's just cruel, Ariel was just 16, if your kid went missing would u really give up and think that kid is better off without u?, could be starving or lost or hurt for all you know, btw im not mad im just saying)
@@sudsysoap Okay, maybe having Triton give up on finding Ariel, and thinking that she's better off without him is going a bit far. Maybe instead I could just have Triton agonize over his previous actions, and how wrong he'd been about both the humans, and the way he'd treated Ariel. He thought he was protecting his daughter, but instead, all he'd done was drive her away. He begins to fear that he may never see her again until Sebastian returns to tell him about Ursula.
My childhood favorite! Finally!!! Great reaction as always Welchy :) Some answers and fun facts for you: 1. The Little Mermaid is a Danish fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen, so it's widely assumed that Atlantica is close to Denmark and in the Northern Atlantic Ocean, although I've also seen Italy offered as a location. Either way, Triton rules the Atlantic Ocean, and yes, has seven daughters. Those were all Ariel's older sisters. His wife tragically died before the events of this movie. 2. Ursula is a boss in Kingdom Hearts, yes xD 3. Eric missed with the spear likely because he's not used to throwing weapons underwater. Water resistance can make a huge difference in power & aim, especially if you're not trained. 4. Ariel technically doesn't leave everyone behind! In the opening sequence of the sequel film, they show Ariel & Eric returning to introduce Triton to their daughter, Melody, and it can be assumed that visits like this are a regular enough occurrence that they know where to sail to meet the merpeople. 5. Disney keeps it vague, but traditional merpeople are, in fact, carnivorous... and eat people.
disney set this story in the caribbean islands, specifically the virgin islands. they were named after saint ursula and her 80 (?) virgins, which are why ursula got her name. also it's why sebastian is a caribbean crab, flounder is a colourful fish found in coral reefs. back then it was called the danish-west-india because denmark colonized part of these islands in the 17th century. if you think about it, they white-washed ariel lol
My soul left my body when I read the real book by Hans Christian Anderson and it got to the part where Ariel decides to sacrifice herself when the prince falls in love with another princess and she basically goes to heaven. Because when a mermaid dies, they basically turn into sea foam, so they thought there's no afterlife, but when ariel goes to heaven, there's that satisfaction for her that she has eternal life... I prefer Disney much more 😅
On the contrary, Ursula's aim is great. Ariel's dodge game is just too good. Haha. Thanks for another great reaction. This is a great mobile with great songs. I can't wait to see more from you!
If you liked the music in this, the people who did the music in this Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, also did the music for Beauty and the Beast. Howard Ashman died before he could ever see Beauty and the Beast in theaters
"If you were a good composer, you would improvise." Lol that's...not really how that works. Not showing up for rehearsals is bad enough but bailing on a performance with no warning is a $#!+y thing to do to all the people who worked hard to put it together. If he knows she has a habit of that sort of thing, then as a director, he should either have had a backup, or not given her the solo. (Kate! Stop talking! Your choir geek is showing!) Huh? Oh, right. I'll just uhh... be over here...
Sebastian (the crab 🦀 ) didn’t mean hopeless as an offense he meant Ariel was hopelessly in love after seeing her fall asleep smiling because of her feelings for prince eric
Thinking of a portrayal of sharks being good, the first thing that comes to my mind is Finding Nemo. The sharks there were trying to be good. One of them just ended up smelling Dory's blood and going on an instinctual rampage. The other two sharks were even trying to calm him down! They were shown to be good at the end of the movie, too
About Mermaids having children (since I haven't seen anyone else commenting on it). I'm of two minds: they are like fish and have eggs in big batches, which explains why she has so many sisters yet they all seem similar ages (except that there's one specific "oldest sister" who is Triton's heir, so that theory doesn't quite work). Also, having gills explains why the mermaids don't have to go to the surface all the time for air. 🤷 But my other theory is that they are like dolphins, so mammals who swim. And if you want to look up how dolphins mate and have children you can do that on your own time. 😆👍
Hercules and little mermaid were my favorites. when i was a child i misheared " un dada si" insted of "under the sea", fun fact, i learned the real lyrics 2 years ago. Love ur reactions
Seriously why Prince Eric is one of my favorite princes..he is very proactive when it comes to saving the girl he loves. Prince Philip in Sleeping Beauty needed the help from the fairies, but Eric swoops in and impales Ursula with a ship!! Gotta love him..
“Fish are friends not food “ you’ll understand once you see the movie👍 also I haven’t seen Welchy this upset since Flynn and Rapunzel didn’t kiss during their romantic boat ride
As a child, I only saw the second movie (Return to the sea) And I don't know how you feel about sequels but I think you'd like it. Some more catchy songs, and loads of more sea action as well..perhaps that's why I've always preferred the 2nd one and got to love the underwater world ^^
To answer your questions: Sharks have had a bad reputation since Jaws, but if you want some shark love movies, check out Finding Nemo or Shark Tale. Ursula is one of Disney's most iconic villains, so even if you haven't seen the movie you probably recognize her. Her design and persona were based off the drag queen Divine, so that may also be how you recognize her. Also, she's a cecaelia, basically a subspecies of mermaid/selkie/siren. Triton from Greek mythology is the son of Neptune/Poseidon, god of the sea. Ariel's father is an adaptation of him, and he rules the entire sea. The tv series prequel reveals that Triton isn't a god or anything, rather he and his ancestors were just named after Greek and Roman deities. Atlantica, where they live, is located in the Atlantic ocean, not too far from Denmark. Also, the prequel reveals that Triton hates humans because his wife was killed by them. Merfolk are mammals, so they have live births and have sex the same way dolphins, whales, and sharks do. They possess what's called a mammary slit, which their "equipment" protrudes from for with males and opens up for with females in order to have sex and give birth. When Ursula claims a soul, she turns her the victims into polyps. Part Of Your World and Under The Sea are some of Disney's most popular and iconic songs (so is Kiss The Girl), so it's no surprise you recognize them. Sebastian misunderstood the situation. Triton was trying to find out who Ariel was in love with, but Sebastian thought he was being interrogated about her saving a human and let the secret slip. If you want to see more under the sea, the prequel and sequel take place a lot more underwater, and the prequel tv series (about 50 episodes) takes place entirely underwater and gets into a lot more lore. TLM was my favorite Disney movie as a kid. The tv series was entertaining, the prequel movie was "meh", and even though the sequel gets a lot if hate for supposedly ripping off the first movie, I enjoyed it and think it offers an interesting flip on perspectives by switching roles. Also, it gives us a good new and underrated character with Ariel's daughter.
There is actually a reference to Sebastian in the post credit scene in Moana, something to listen for if you watch it again sometime. Thought I'd mention it as you said he was your favourite character. Thanks for a great reaction.
Jodi Benson was amazing at changing the tone in both Ariel's voice (gentle) and Vanessa's(hostile) making them sound different but the same. 💛 Idk how the Trident works with killing someone but I often wondered the same thing on WHY the hell Triton would sign that contract becoming helpless to save or help anybody in the ocean ever again. He basically just HANDED Ursula his family and Atlantica. Why couldn't he just turn Ursula into a starfish or some shit if he didnt want to kill her?? Doesn't make sense at all. Lol
I saw the the 1976 cartoon base on the original story, It is really sad, i was a kid and i cried! The mermaid's name was not Ariel , but Marina! But Disney change the story, like usual!
Pretty sure Welchy's face as they were gonna kiss was my reaction when I was a kid watching this movie. From yes they're gonna do it to damn those eels.
It's really bizzare seeing people react to a movie I grew up with. I was 3 when it came out and well... aside the fact I was tossed in a pool as an infant with barely any support, this is also a big reason why I never had a fear of the water. I think by the time I was 4 I was swimming unaided and loved going about underwater a lot.... even though people hated me doing it. This was one of a handful of movies I was obsessed with. I wish I could afford patreon, I'd have to request The Last Unicorn. It isn't well known but is adapted from a great book and featured animators that would go on to working on animating for Ghibli.
They animated this film from trailers in the studio lot because the studio was being broken up and sold off. This film literally saved Disney studios. And yes... this was when I realized I am attracted to voices as well.
The song is actually Part of That World But people only remember and I myself personally prefer that one moment on the rock when she sing that bit then Part of Your World
MY FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIE!! The looks on your face were so funny, I probably shouldn't have been eating watching this. But, something just hit me. I'm sure this movie has a ton of plot holes, but the thought that came to me is how unusual it is everyone just assumes she lost her clothes in a supposed shipwreck and had to wear a sail. Like, how often did people lose their clothes in shipwrecks back in the 1600's or so? I realize the movie is heavily playing off Splash (live action Disney mermaid movie from the 80s that came before this. Madison the mermaid came out of the water nekkid (nothing shown), and was also my childhood), but it just seems weird.
This movie paved the way for alot of modern pop culture references that you can't have not heard these songs unless you quite literally grew up in a Shack under a rock. And Ursula was probably in Kingdom Hearts, never played the games just know that them and Disney have been buddies for well over a decade at this point
When hearing some of your comments about how you're kinda confused by why ariel would give up her life in the sea for a life on land maybe you should watch the sequel to this move about ariel and Eric's daughter who gets raised on land and desperately wants to live in the sea. Out of the disney sequels it's one of the better ones honestly and the music and story about the return to the sea both are really quite good.

It bothers me when people are like "Ariel is stupid because she gave her legs up for a man" because Part of That World was before she even met him. She already wanted to be on land, was already fascinated and obsessed. Eric AND her dad's rejection made her decide to go through with it.

The only real “wrong” thing he did was destroy her things and over react thats it
"I probably wasn't even an egg"
Me: Knowing that girls are born with all their eggs-
No but seriously, I loved this film when I was little. I had a major crush on Prince Eric even though, looking back, he's a little bland. I've always kept him as my type though! Black hair and blue eyes... *sigh*
I had a crush on john smith from pocahontas 😍😍 .... it's bc we got to know him in the movie.
@@gingerlemon865 nah I like dark haired men who play music. Actually I love L from Death Note but Disney is behind on that character
I was going to say the same thing… pretty sure welchy’s MOM was born by 1989..and like you said.. girls born with all the eggs they’ll ever have
Ehh I dunno. I feel like he’s got more character than most Disney princes, especially for an older movie. He’s also one of the only characters in Disney canon, let alone a prince, to murder the villain. He def gets points for that imo lol
as a scientist, I also was thinking the same about the eggs but knew in my heart that it'd already been said
Ariel is my favorite Disney princess of all time, she's really adventurous and doesn't mind change if anything she encourages it.
@@taylorlane8257 I had that revelation many years after seeing the movie for the first time after watching the Honest Trailer to it
@@taylorlane8257 It wasn't just about a guy. Ariel was always fascinated about the human world even before she met Eric. Eric was just dare I say "a part of that world." Plus her father hasn't exactly shown much love when keeping her isolated and destroying her collection.
3:40 "I hope this is the last time we're on land"
You're so going to hate this movie LOL
Fun fact: the only way Disney was able to make Little mermaid and the rest of the Renaissance was because the Great mouse detective was a success both critically - both for story, characters, 2D art in the beginning of cgi- and financially. It's also Vincent Price's favorite role. They said it's the second time a mouse saved the studios.
Such an underrated film
I really enjoyed it actually :O and very interesting!!
What I knew was if this movie, the little mermaid, wasn’t a success the studio would close down. But it was super successful and they were able to keep going
Decades passed and the soundtrack still gives me goosebumps ❤️ RIP Howard Ashman …”who gave a mermaid her voice and a beast his soul”
Ps- 7 sisters, 7 seas
"How have you missed? You're so close to her!"
Ever try to throw anything underwater?
Ursula was originally a mermaid princess and the daughter of King Poseidon, named after the original sea goddess. Her back-story is similar to Ariel because she had a beautiful singing voice and lost her mother who had been killed by a pirate
I laughed so hard at your comment on Ursula's booty🤣 great reaction Welchy. I agree with you on voices and finding them attractive. I always loved singing along to the Disney movies growing up, so much so that my family and neighbors got annoyed with how much I was singing.
your reaction to realizing that you know "under the sea" was so wholesome
"I wonder what ocean he rules under."
My guess would be the Atlantic for 2 reasons: 1- It's based on a story by Hans Christian Anderson, who was Danish, and the Atlantic Ocean is the closest to Denmark.
"Are those all her sisters?"
They are her sisters. King Triton has 7 daughters. One for each of the 7 seas.
"I didn't know you were allowed to bring dogs on boats"
I don't know about dogs. That probably depends on the captain and the shipmaster. Though Eric is a prince, so I guess if he wants to bring his dog on board, who's going to tell him no?
It would be a fairly common practice though to keep a cat on board to control the rodent population.
I don't know much about boats either but my thoughts were always "its his boat isn't it? he can do whatever he wants"
there are dogbreeds specially for catching rodents- chihuahuas, terriers, pugs (not the modern kind of breed, they had noses and snouts in the olden days), you can look it up but cats are not exclusive to this
@@ichsehnursoaus Fair enough. Cats are just the ones I've specifically heard of being used for this purpose.

This movie has one of the best villains and villain song ever
"Can we use forks for everything?"
As someone who would frequently pretend I was Ariel when I was a kid, let me tell you... forks are not good for brushing hair.
It’s still a good story, but pretty dark.
lmaooo a lot of Disney princess movies original stories were dark
His "omg I know this song?!!" Face was absolute quality, we love a Disney fan!
It was confirmed by the writer that Eric's castle was in Italy. So the nearest ocean is thr North Atlantic. Perhaps thats were Tritons kingdom is

Ursula's song is just amazing. Great villain.
fun fact (but a little obvious) vanessa who was ursula in juman form is actually meant to look a little bit like ariel. and the same voice actress for ariel, jodie benson, also plays vanessa since ursula did take her voice. i just think jodies talent is amazing because she didn’t sound “like” ariel at all!!!!
"What is the real story?"
Everyone: *nooooooooo*

Cinderella (1950) and Sleeping Beauty (1959)!!!! They're kinda old, but classics!
@@sgauden02 there we go!!
My childhood favorite! Finally!!! Great reaction as always Welchy :) Some answers and fun facts for you:
2. Ursula is a boss in Kingdom Hearts, yes xD
It's in the Caribbean. The story is Danish but the story is Caribbean.
@ichsehnursoaus very true. Yet people are mad they casted a black actress but if you think about it why wouldn't ariel be black?
Ariel: *meets Eric once while he's unconscious*
Also Ariel: I LOVE HIM
Ariel is the ultimate simp confirmed
My soul left my body when I read the real book by Hans Christian Anderson and it got to the part where Ariel decides to sacrifice herself when the prince falls in love with another princess and she basically goes to heaven. Because when a mermaid dies, they basically turn into sea foam, so they thought there's no afterlife, but when ariel goes to heaven, there's that satisfaction for her that she has eternal life...
I prefer Disney much more 😅
They made a Little Mermaid 2, where the Prince and Ariel have a daughter named Melody, and Ursula had a sister named Morgana.
Nobody:
Welchy: Paaart of youuur wooorld~ 🎶
On the contrary, Ursula's aim is great. Ariel's dodge game is just too good. Haha. Thanks for another great reaction. This is a great mobile with great songs. I can't wait to see more from you!

"If you were a good composer, you would improvise."
Lol that's...not really how that works. Not showing up for rehearsals is bad enough but bailing on a performance with no warning is a $#!+y thing to do to all the people who worked hard to put it together. If he knows she has a habit of that sort of thing, then as a director, he should either have had a backup, or not given her the solo.

Huh?
But my other theory is that they are like dolphins, so mammals who swim. And if you want to look up how dolphins mate and have children you can do that on your own time. 😆👍

To answer your questions:
Sharks have had a bad reputation since Jaws, but if you want some shark love movies, check out Finding Nemo or Shark Tale.
Lol
I'd love to see your reaction to Lady And The Tramp
Yyyeeesssssss!!!!
Yes! And Lady and The Tramp 2
The song is actually Part of That World
But people only remember and I myself personally prefer that one moment on the rock when she sing that bit then Part of Your World
MY FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIE!!
In response to the 'Are all sharks bad?' question, I would recommend watching Shark Tale
Ursula is my second favourite Disney villain now, but that fight in the end of the film absolutely terrified me as a child!😱
This movie paved the way for alot of modern pop culture references that you can't have not heard these songs unless you quite literally grew up in a Shack under a rock. And Ursula was probably in Kingdom Hearts, never played the games just know that them and Disney have been buddies for well over a decade at this point
I don’t get how Eric was able to understand Sebastian when guessing her name

When hearing some of your comments about how you're kinda confused by why ariel would give up her life in the sea for a life on land maybe you should watch the sequel to this move about ariel and Eric's daughter who gets raised on land and desperately wants to live in the sea. Out of the disney sequels it's one of the better ones honestly and the music and story about the return to the sea both are really quite good.
There’s actually a song from the Broadway show at the end called wedding finale where they do a third version of part of your world so beautiful so much better than the ending to the movie
Yeah, Ariel is the youngest of 7 sisters (one for each of the seven seas)
She played one of the sisters in the movie White Christmas. Her name is Rosemary Clooney.
