Wow, love that you got your wife involved in disc dyeing! It's always exciting to see newbies' creations, and these turned out amazing. Science Time: heat is a game-changer in disc dyeing. It opens up the plastic pores, letting the dye penetrate better. With heat (around 120°F), a shaving cream bed could be done in just 45 mins with start like plastic! We suggested room temp since not everyone has safe heat sources. For future reference: 12hrs is good for Star-like plastic, but give Champion-type 24hrs or more for best results. Keep up the awesome work!
Not sure if it has been done already but I think a fun idea would be to do a 1 mold mystery box but in different plastics! Giving folks a chance to see how plastic affects the flight and give them an option to find which one or more would slot into the bag. Love the dyes, I think y’all did a great job! Its always a great time seeing how they turn out!! ❤
Nice video -- it really is that easy and you dont need to get much more complicated than that (but you can of course). Quick Suggestions -- 1 -- Wash discs first with soap & warm water. The factory coating/finish will prevent dye from absorbing, so you gotta wash first. 2 -- Then.....put down some kind of protective sheet for your table and carpet. That prochem dye powder will go everywhere with the slightest air current or accidental twitch of the q-tip. And....if you miss it, and water hits it on your coffee table, it's gonna stain instantly. Was scared for you the whole video. 3 -- twist a little, but can let gravity do its thing over 24 hours which will also give it a good effect. 4-- at room temp, you need 24 hours in there for sure. 12 hours is not enough time.
Great job guys! Now I kinda want a bunch of people to show off the results of using this months foundation mystery box and what cool designs they came up with. #foundationdyes
Great to see you and Lindsay doing a fun crafty project together. I think she had a great idea exploring the science of how and why the dyes work the way they do. I wish the schedule had worked out so that she could be with you for the reveal. I think another fun quasi sciency video could be based on how the discs fly before and after and what the effect, mostly psychological the dyed discs had if any.
