    Hey Matt! Just started watching your videos a couple of weeks ago. I have a 70 camper special 2WD that is Grabber Blue. Colorado truck it's whole life. It has explorer B package. Out of roughly 122,000 F250's, only 1271 were grabber blue. That's the only highboy I've ever seen that color. Keep up the great work and videos!!!!

    I am glad to hear someone go full time on these as they were my go to rigs new. I put over a million miles on a 72 half ton high boy with the little axles that were different on the axles themselves for spline count. I didn't know much about them when I bought it as a toy because I hadn't got serious about my own business yet at the time. I later fixed it up right with another new 390/ four barrel engine. I liked the fact that the gaskets, bearings, pistons all interchanged and crank was the engine c.i.d. cause I popped a piston in a high mileage engine that was a 390 and all the parts I had were 360's but pulled the piston with engine in the truck, stuffed it in the hole expecting it to set lower but nope, just fine. I was poor and was working in logging long long days and the truck was all I had . It had good oil pressure and not sure what took that piston out but the donor was laying on the ground in front of the truck so I did what I had to and it worked great. I eventually took that single speed two wheel/four wheel transfer out and put a regular four speed two wheel drive in, then used a divorced transfer case for my four wheel drive. I have a few stories about them that will make you laugh but it is what it is. I wish you the best and will be watching for more content from you

      @@warrenmcelroy4718 It was a 3/4, I misspoke on that part. All that said, I seen some that were 1/2 ton and they were true highboy with that terrible in or out, no high an low in the box... too light for any work. And those I seen were high trim models. I say it cause for a fact jack, I did own a few out of trades and one was to my trouble brother. White on top with a turquoise middle an then white on the bottom below the chrome trim... or more said stainless trim that was constantly getting torn off on small bushes. I have heard this for years but I lived and drove them. If they are not in the books then find a sales person from the time and he will refute what I say. I really do miss that one truck that got so badly treated by me. My brother bought it at the Forks Washington ford place... give me a bit to think of their name as it will come after I post this

      @@morgansword sorry sir but you’re wrong here, the ONLY HiBoy trucks were 67-77 F250 4x4’s. None of the half ton trucks were HiBoys as they had Coil Spring front ends, if there were some that had NP203 transfer cases that makes no difference

    • @morgansword
      @morgansword Рік тому

      @@warrenmcelroy4718 Then I do stand corrected! I remember parking them side by side and having the same stance., The salespeople at Halmar Ford,(I did remember the name of dealer) told me directly it was a highboy but you are correct, it had coils in the front. I am sorry for the bad typing as my fingers are way wide from dieses and so its hard for me... I just hate hunt and peck. You were right all along and I sat in their office and made out the check in seventy one in november. I bought five trucks that day. My two highboys which I now find out I was lied to about, and three F 600's that were delux trim packages, the 600's were cab and chassis... and our own shop put the lift beds on them for hauling shake blocks used in making shakes for roofs out of cedar. I owned Adair Bro. Helicopter service ... it is a name that to this day brings pain to my heart. I came home from Nam and (69) used the go home money for a business plus money for my wife waiting for me to go to mexico on vacation. I came home to a family.... it took me a bit to forgive her for her cheating but being home meant a great deal and she did pick me up at fort bragg. Longer story about how I wound up at bragg. I and a couple guys who flew in Nam started a salvage company with a old french bird, I know I will spell wrong .., a Alouette made in nineteen fifty five. They are similar in size to a Hughes 500 and we later did buy the Hughes choppers. Way way off of subject as my mind wanders and being all sorts of three initial problems of OCD, etc., my brother needed work and was also married but washed out in the navy... couldn't take not being home with his wife an used the bible to be a minister of the Lord. They gave him a honorable discharge with some other stuff attached to it. I never found out till 83 who the father of my two girls were till then when I could not take her cheating as soon as I left the house. I apologize for all of this but just had to get it off of my chest as I still have feelings .... very bad feelings over it. Lets get back to trucks.
      I did love a good ford engine sound. I of course had all of my equipment painted up for the operators to be able to be also proud of running. I had over a hundred men working for me at times as the number got up to one hundred and thirty one men and women working just in the woods running equipment which by rights chainsaws might not be equipment. More like tools I guess. Big companies would log the timber in tree lengths and I came behind doing salvage work in small bundles we could pick with the helicopters. At the high of my business, I had so much money going through my hands that I did not know which way to turn. Yes I had a drivers licence but I hired a driver and kept bookwork going in the passenger seat.... remember the old phones the phone company installed in the vehicles. Real cheap as they had horrible antennas mounted on the rigs. A base phone at the office not to be confused with a ham or other type of communication device. My phone bill was in the thousands per month as the calls coming or going were over ten dollars a minute at one time. I am so sorry but my brain is just buzzing from all the memories of those glorious days now gone by. Still in my early twenties with a few scars from Nam and a few more from stupidity logging incidents. Oh we complained about everything, high gas prices as Reagan had interest rates at 23% and price at the pump went from the thirty cents approx to 85 cents and rationed. I had every man or woman in the company bringing gas in cans to pour into barrels for keeping my vehicles going. One thing about the FE engine, people claimed they were hard on fuel yet to this day, pickups suffer on mileage and claim high teens in mileage ..... I have owned a few of those before my twin brother died only a few years ago... he was army also and was sent to south america as out last names were not the same. Same dad with his mom being a native woman just as my mom was a native woman. Dad would not marry a native and ..... stop it Morgan! Elmo was my brother and only good family brother. I must have several family members out there but will never know them as dad just was not a good family man. I would have trouble finding any good in him except he worked me like a rented mule from the age of eight years approx., till my emancipation at fifteen. I had a OJT like you could not believe! I had turned wrenches with him and when I had it down knowing how to roll in bearings or make a new babbitt bearing for a shaft. Boy did I ever leave our conversation on a highboy truck. I am going to try harder..... Your saying that the coil springs made them un eligible to be a highboy and so you have to be right. I bought so many trucks back then including the different ford cars. I just loved the black on black 64 ford galaxie fairlane with a narrow back roof pillar (C pillar) I know the engine codes and all but truly could not pull from my hat right this minute. It had a 406, four speed, posi with steel wheels as the other fancy rims just shattered on the drop of the clutch pedals. Talking mileage, if driven responsibly, it got as high as eleven or maybe more miles per gallon. I was just a kid with too much money stuck on myself at the time so good mileage was a real problem. Wow, off topic is a understatement!!!!! So why would coils make them not a highboy as I am truly interested in figuring out that part of my stupid life. If you have stayed with me for this long, I honestly do appreciate it a lot., I did have some times back then racing and logging. What a mess of my life I made

    Have you used that Chassis Saver paint before? Just wondered how it holds up over the long haul? It looks great when first applied. I've had the same problems with Inline Tube. I ordered directly from their website only to find that they don't sell the line kit that I thought I was buying. I did receive a full refund and was told to keep the line kit that doesn't fit. Just buy a Mastercool hydraulic flaring kit, some bulk stainless line and make your own. Being that deep into a build, it should be very simple to make and install your own lines.

    Hey Matt, I was just mowing the lawn and thinking about your video. Why get rid of your diesel repair income? Why not hire a diesel mechanic to do the diesel repair work? Then your customers get their trucks repaired quicker and you get the income. The business will probably grow with a full-time mechanic on duty which will cover the mechanics wages. Plus it gives you time to ranch or hire a rancher while you diesel on.
