Our forefathers put in place a lot of checks and balances. I guess demanding better shows that progressive thinking needs a place besides conservative thinking. Hope that depression has lifted. We have a lot Tobe thankful for.
If you were born in the US you’re in a place of no hope. This information about the museum and restaurants in Cambodia and elsewhere being operated by and for the benefit of the North Korean regime needs to be widely distributed. I feel sorry for those young women who are basically modern day slaves. In fact, it would seem that much of the population of North Korea itself is in a constant state of slavery in service of some inadequate and ridiculous despot dictator and his megalomaniac fantasies.
your sick in the head if you think thats a good idea. its not just the revenue of office 39 you would be affecting but also the revenue of countless of poor family. north Korea already has nuclear weapons so this wouldn't change much. if you don't want to be attacked by nuclear equipped missiles, then don't attack and provoke north Korea. simple.

There’s a lot of truth in the statement. Communism turns into elites operating their own twisted version of capitalism to their benefit. Just like the piggies in animal farm over throwing the farmer to become the new farmers in charge, with the guise of socialism on top.
@@kcck7588are they not capitalist though? Given wealth accumulation being allowed for in both NK and China. China especially is highly capitalistic since their economy grew. China has corporate billionaires.
Then that means you don’t understand what capitalism means. Capitalism is an economic model, not a government model. NK is an authoritarian capitalist system. China is currently more similar to that but structurally it’s a democratic capitalist system. We here in the United States have a democratic capitalist system, on paper. Like china we don’t fully follow that at the moment, unlike china instead of an authoritarian system we have more of a democratic oligarchy run mostly at the will of our billion dollar corporations. That model I just described is how a majority of western nations operate nowadays. If NK was communist or socialist they wouldn’t have massive trade and business partnerships, they were a mix of those two in the past but that’s not how they are anymore. Still authoritarian however.
just because no one wants to do business with north korea doesn’t mean they arnt a capitalist country. even google has visited north korea to strike a deal
There was a time when I would have accepted the logic of sanctions against N Korea. But now it seems clear that the purpose of those sanctions are to damage N Korea and I am not able to understand how that is different from an act of war against N. Korea.
Because in theory you sanction them from trade and eventually they’re forced to negotiate since without trade as a nation you have no money. And if that happens you avoid a true war abs death and accomplish your end goal. Obviously it can be futile if outside parties ignore the sanctions and trade with them anyways.
Exactly. That's the way they see it. That's why the official in 21:35 says, they do whatever it takes to break the sanctions and never budge to the enemy.
You three replying just to pick on this person being rightfully appalled by these human rights violations are just sad, angry people that enjoy the pain of others. You’re free and your life still sucks that much? Looks like you all failed at making something of yourselves 🥺
the quality of life is steadily increasing even if they are poor. you have to look at where they started. an "oppressive" regime is actually more stable than a more free form of government, which the reason they pop up during times of chaos and instability. if they were to end it would be the will of other nations. that is the reality unless you believe in some form ideological version of the world. in reality for people to revolt they would have to be on the brink of death with nothing to lose, and starvation is old news for N Korea. this is why they will be relentless in their pursuit of nuclear arms as the US showed what would happen if they did not, although ofc N Korea sits at a more geopolitically better position.
Hundreds of years. See the history of feudalism in Europe. It's basically the same practice. The only real chance at breaking it is somehow getting a critical mass of uncensored internet to the people without getting them killed in the process.
It didn't happen in the 90's, the time of massive famine, so it's less likely now. North Korea is an efficient repressive machine. As long as it manages to guarantee funding, and the geopolitics doesn't change, it's going to be this way in the future.
Communist Bulgaria at the time did something similar. Trained workers and specialists worked in the 70s and 80s in Arab and some developing countries and got some 20% of their wages (paid in hard currency, usually USD). The rest (80%) went to the state.
Business owners are to blame. They want to make something for a low price, yet charge the consumer an arm and a leg for it, all so they can have huge margins. If anyone has watched Shark Tank, they know what I mean.
If these documentary makers cared about him they would have muffled his voice or used a voice a actor at 39:20. Any security who works for North Korea will be able to find him easier there in Poland and punish him severely.
there are thousands and thousands of defectors. i highly doubt they are at any real risk. there are defectors that are way more higher up in the government that would be a bigger target. (like the guy who showed his face) that live in korea with very little fear. north korea would be going way out of their way and expend way much of their resources to take out such a small risk like the person whos face is blurred out. getting into south korea as a north korean is close to impossible ontop of them having to also smuggle weapons into south korea and then also avoid being arrested. the chance of the north coming for them is extremely unlikely.
Foundations of *capitalism* by Adam Smith are: - Freedom to start a business - Voluntary trade - Anti monopoly laws Explain how that relates to N Korea
That's regulated capitalism. Korea, Russia and China are like Industrial Revolution west. It's called neo-liberal capitalism. There is no protections or regulation. Western people revolted and demanded democracy and protections (regulation).

Most people that escape just want food or they are already a target and will die either way so why not go for it? Obviously fear is a big part of Kim’s control over the people, but the brainwashing makes the fear much less common because as long as you do what you’re told, you really don’t have to worry. About the government at least, still have to worry about starving though. Pretty much every defector story I’ve heard did not fear the Kim’s or their government, they feared starvation.

And two, how far man has denegrated his moral conscious and how unaware the peasantry are in the power they truly have in numbers.
Fantastic work as always 👍
Perhaps your imagination is severely lacking, and your judgement of an entire culture too biased.
don't worry you live in the country with the most prosperity and depression, very lucky.
how far man has denigrated*
you don't know much about history, eh?
Our forefathers put in place a lot of checks and balances. I guess demanding better shows that progressive thinking needs a place besides conservative thinking. Hope that depression has lifted. We have a lot Tobe thankful for.
If you were born in the US you’re in a place of no hope. Your government is even more corrupt than North Korea, you’re rules by oligarchs and far away from a democracy, your streets and infrastructure is that of a third world country, your health care system is corrupt and broken and only the wealthy can really afford it (don’t believe what Obama sold to you), you pay 8 months worth of taxes into the system that causes the world to never have peace thanks to your war and attack department called Pentagon,… I could go on an on an on!
This information about the museum and restaurants in Cambodia and elsewhere being operated by and for the benefit of the North Korean regime needs to be widely distributed. I feel sorry for those young women who are basically modern day slaves. In fact, it would seem that much of the population of North Korea itself is in a constant state of slavery in service of some inadequate and ridiculous despot dictator and his megalomaniac fantasies.

your sick in the head if you think thats a good idea. its not just the revenue of office 39 you would be affecting but also the revenue of countless of poor family. north Korea already has nuclear weapons so this wouldn't change much. if you don't want to be attacked by nuclear equipped missiles, then don't attack and provoke north Korea. simple.
so basically they are slaves to the system , and their only bright spot is that get to eat and dress well unlike much of the people who don't live in Pyongyang.

I’m actually a little surprised Poland allows this actually!
This is a beautiful example of the unimaginable behavioral power of convincing people of a single belief. Imagine multiple beliefs at work.
That’s all they’ve ever known. So sad. 🇺🇸
The three heavenly religions work in the same way.
Are you talking about the Abrahamic religions?
Great documentary. Vice vibe almost, but National Geographic level of quality. The ending was great. Nice documentary.
I worked for vice before ;)

I agree. Very informative. 🇺🇸
I really feel for the people of North Korea who are just trying to survive. It's heartbreaking to see that other countries exploit them for cheap labor/slavery and the money goes to the whims of the dictator.
Yet at the same time, every NK person has been brainwashed against the west and would happily slit your throat for the regime. .they literally hate us and only want "revenge".
Like merikkka
Yes sad truth...
By the way you looks beautiful
Just like here, in the U.S. right now!
The finest documentary that i have ever watched on north korea ! Kudos to the team
Thank you! I will pass this on to the makers.
@@ENDEVRDocsWhy would you say that? You didn’t even give them credit in your description? Lies. Correct me if I’m wrong please.
It's heartbreaking and very sad, how can there still be human slavery in this modern era, and what makes it even more heartbreaking is that many countries are involved 😢😢
There's human slavery in literally every single country and every single city in the world. It doesn't take much brainpower to comprehend that.

US still has slave labor
slave labor from birth to death, how utterly horrific. fantastic work done by the investigators for documentary and watch dogs.

North Korean people also deserves better lives as of south Koreans .People's Suffering leads to the Revolution.

Fascinating.
Been watching docu's about NK for years, but I never knew we have a North-Korea specialist/investigator in The Netherlands.
Nice👌
Never knew we had a North Korean embassy in London lol
Greed of human beings can never be underestimated
All those people suffering to sustain one corrupt, evil family. It makes me wonder how humans managed to evolve as far as it has, with so much of the planet lagging so far behind.
I remember when we had a port of call in Cambodia and I took a trip to Ankor Wat I saw this museum and restaurant they mentioned we as US military personnel weren't allowed into the museum, I always though it was due tome constraints but maybe our embassy in Phnom Penh knew better.
And the whole world is still watching and concur!
No one has the guts to stand up to north Korea due to their constant flaunting of nuclear weapons... BUT there IS a way...
The U.S does a lot worse and no one can do jackshit, they'll invade your country and put it right in everyone's face. this is the reality of the world we live in.
Thank you for exposing this.
It’s a fascinating documentary. For future reference, many listen to these videos, so voiceover would be helpful versus subtitles.
I thought the same, and the tiny, white lettering is not a plus. Otherwise, quite good.
I like this little tidbit when talking about Armani. “No FINISHED product” very particular language.
What brilliant journalism. Im now hooked on this channel.
NK really is one of the most fascinating rabbit holes you’ll ever go down. Amazing it still survives in this day and age
Those kind of photos like the one at the end always crack me up.

Taking this documentary with a huge pinch of salt but still interesting.
Good documentary. It needs updating for the situation of North Korea's finances and economy post-Covid though. I am sure that the country's circumstances have been altered significantly by this event.
unlikely to have changed much at all. If anything it just meant the weakest and poorest part of the population died so there's more food for the rest. It's highly unlikely to've had much impact on anything else
The world has the ability to stop this person...they just choose not to
They only take action when they have their interests in it
He uses his nukes as a shield... not a sword. What happens when another country thinks your country needs more democracy in its government. And that county is at your doorstep looking to liberate 20 million of your citizens. You better have more then a knock knock joke for them.
Stop what,he rules his country, others can't dictate what another country does.America should be stopped as they are the evil in the world, causes of many wars which have killed hundreds of thousands of men women and children.
They also have the ability to stop USA and UK,but they just choose not to do that.
REALLY the world has the ability to stop him ? 🤣 what rubbish you saying,he has nuclear weapons,if the west tried to lay a finger on him he will send those weapons to America that's why they don't do anything to him and left him alone lol.
People have no idea what it's like to live under a regime like that. The hopelessness, the despair... it's heart breaking.
I like how unshocked I was to learn that Armani and other are potentially using even cheaper North Korea labor to buy their products and then sell them for multiple thousands of times higher.
If you owned a company, wouldn't you want free or super cheap laborers?
So so sad GREED is becoming invincible. Thanks to ENDEVR for a great doco. 🙏🤜🤛
21:53 judging by the way his body reacted he was really caught off guard and definitely knew about the floor 39
I had the same thought
He probably reacted that way due to shock, possibly believing that the people he was talking to were section 39, scrutinising his responses and if needed, purging him. It's fear you see.
Maybe not so slick. If he answers wrong he is a dead man when it surfaces
Gotcha with a state secret!
Thank you for this revelatory documentary. Just a minor correction: @39:35 he says "since 2005" but the translation states "2015".

The administrative staff was not able to discuss .So suspicious and hidden illegal activities in North Korea.
This is an excellent documentary
impressive. well researched. thank you
One of the best documentary I ever watched. No thanks those products made.
Brilliant and fascinating documentary. Much of this has been covered in the equally great Lazarus Heist podcast, produced by the BBC.
Ok but saying North Korea is a capitalist country just makes the term totally meaningless.
There’s a lot of truth in the statement. Communism turns into elites operating their own twisted version of capitalism to their benefit. Just like the piggies in animal farm over throwing the farmer to become the new farmers in charge, with the guise of socialism on top.
My exact thoughts. Calling NK capitalist, is like calling China or Russia a democracy
This broke my heart..that we are unknowingly a part of this mess. Now we know. Thank you.

It's a dictatorship.
I believe that painting at Angor in Cambodia is a 360 degree painting, not a 3-D painting.
There was a time when I would have accepted the logic of sanctions against N Korea. But now it seems clear that the purpose of those sanctions are to damage N Korea and I am not able to understand how that is different from an act of war against N. Korea.
China backs North Korea, we declare war on North Korea and we’re in WWIII with China. 🇺🇸
@@Matt-cr4vvyea but the leadership in North Korea has proved they'd watch people starve to death before they budge
Damaging a country is the entire point of sanctions. What did you used to think their purpose was?

Awsome documentary, beautifuly made
The question in my mind is how long is such a situation tenable or feasible before social revolt, uprising and capitulation of oppressive regime.
the quality of life is steadily increasing even if they are poor. you have to look at where they started. an "oppressive" regime is actually more stable than a more free form of government, which the reason they pop up during times of chaos and instability. if they were to end it would be the will of other nations. that is the reality unless you believe in some form ideological version of the world. in reality for people to revolt they would have to be on the brink of death with nothing to lose, and starvation is old news for N Korea. this is why they will be relentless in their pursuit of nuclear arms as the US showed what would happen if they did not, although ofc N Korea sits at a more geopolitically better position.
Also, come on dude, you think nkrea will allow the oppressed there to get they're hands on firearms?
Good question 🤔 I think that could be used and asked to mostly every country in the world 🌎
You must give it to them - they are very creative!

Communist Bulgaria at the time did something similar. Trained workers and specialists worked in the 70s and 80s in Arab and some developing countries and got some 20% of their wages (paid in hard currency, usually USD). The rest (80%) went to the state.
Wrong 😂
but it's happening in merikkka today

there are thousands and thousands of defectors. i highly doubt they are at any real risk. there are defectors that are way more higher up in the government that would be a bigger target.

Foundations of *capitalism* by Adam Smith are:
- Freedom to start a business
- Voluntary trade
- Anti monopoly laws
Explain how that relates to N Korea
That's regulated capitalism.
Korea, Russia and China are like Industrial Revolution west. It's called neo-liberal capitalism. There is no protections or regulation.
Western people revolted and demanded democracy and protections (regulation).
It's capitalism reinvented, dear. It's the underbelly of the beast.

@@ayla8d They are most definitely brainwashed. Maybe not some of the elites, but the average citizen is for sure. They are told the Kim’s are Gods and their calendar starts when Kim Il Sung was born. They are told they are in paradise and that they are protected from the outside world (especially Americans, the #1 enemy).
