We Test the Power Draw of Different Consoles

- In this video we test the power draw of a number of different consoles from the PS4 Pro to the Xbox Series S with our xScreen attached. One of the reasons we designed xScreen was to be able to have a full power console that we could use when we travel and most airline power and other public spaces limit the amount you can draw to around 100W so its important we are able to come in under that. Check out the video to see the results.
Our Shopify store is now live @ UPspecGaming.com and you can pay with credit card, PayPal or Apple Pay. xScreen is currently available to pre-order for US$249.99. - Ігри
The Xbox Series S is the gift that keeps giving.
Thank you, Upspec Gaming! This was the information I needed.
Hey this video provided pretty much exactly what I wanted! Thanks!
Very direct to the point 😊
Ive been using my series x in my truck. i power it using a pure sine inverter (500w and 1000w) on my truck’s 12v system. The xbox runs fine when gaming from the cloud, but if playing an installed game it will randomly shut the inverter. This happens regardless of using the 500w or 1000w inverter. It seems playing installed games requires more power than cloud games.
Thanks for the info.
You should also do a Ps5 power draw test.
Essa ideia de vocês é realmente muito boa. Se for economicamente viável para o consumidor não tem porque dar errado. Espero um dia poder adquirir o meu.😀👍
Thanks!
This was very informative I appreciate it. Does anyone here know what the PS5 power draw is?
it was helpful for me
This is one benefit of console gaming people don’t discuss. All of these numbers are far below just what a gaming PCs CPU alone can end up drawing these days. This is better for not only your electric bill but potentially the environment as well as long as you take care of and hold onto your machines for longer. One purchase, years of games, minimal setup, minimal power draw. Love consoles.
True, but gaming laptops are pretty comparable to the Series X and PS5 in power consumption, especially considering the console is likely on a big TV so total power draw will be higher. I needed a new laptop so bought one with a RTX 3070 and have been really impressed for 1440p gaming on my monitor.
cost me about £0.03 an hour to play on my series S (80W console + 30W Gaming monitor). Going up to £0.037 from this october when energy prices increase.
@@JudeTheUA-camPoopersubscribe costs me about 7 to 8 pence to run my series x.
These consoles are amazing
@@jayay956 very power efficient. My launch ps4 draws like 130w its ridiculous lol. Only use it a few times a year for the exclusives anyway.
@@JudeTheUA-camPoopersubscribe shows just how far efficiency can keep going. Series S - i was super torn between it and the x.
The s doesnt really feel like a weak console in any regard. Yet it maxes 80watts at the most. Thats like an old light bulb lol
this is the total power consumption of the console with the screen or for the console only..
Which switch model did you test?
Which console is the best for solar electricity
switch. or Series S for home consoles
Hi! Would you be interested in making a revision that opens up the LAN port? This would be perfect for system link LAN parties if so because system linked multiplayer still requires wired connections.
Original Xbox games in particular don't have the network protocols for wireless connections while 360 games are limited to 30ms or lower which isn't really possible with wifi.
No sorry we made the decision that the main use case is for ad hoc portable use which is unlikely to have or need access to Ethernet. No new games I am aware of still support system link and I am surprised that the older games with backward compatibility on the series S don’t utilise the wifi connection - have you tested this on a series S/X?
This Switch is V1 or V2?
Do you know if theres an inverter/transformer I could add externally that would make the series s run off my 12v solar campervan setup? Im looking on TEMU at the moment but not sure what (12V? 5A? 100W?) transformer to get. 👍
Anything that outputs at least 100w 110v AC should work.
What if you run Xbox series x in 1440p mode? Does it then consume the same watts as the series s???
We haven’t tried it but I suspect it will still be higher due to the more powerful electronics beyond just resolution.
monitor included in power consumption or separate?

do you think you'll ever make a screen for the series x because if you do I'd buy it
Yes that’s no us though just to be clear - it is literally just a screen clipped onto the Xbox and still needs all the cables and seperate power for the screen. We are only making xScreen for the Series S as our goal is to make it simple and portable with no cables. 👍
@@UPspecGaming I understand why you cant, I just think a screen for the series x with the features you've made would be awesome
i think i will buy it even if i still have some doubts.
1) can i know the response time in ms?
2) how long does it take from the time of dispatch to arrive in Italy?
3) not being a regular player, I don't usually have too many problems, but 11.6 "is decent for a good gaming experience?
1) Response time on a 60hz screen is really just marketing as it displays one frame every 1/60th of a second which is 16.67ms so any response below that doesn’t really matter. Our screen response time is around 5ms so it’s fine 👍. Both the Nintendo Switch and the Steamdeck are 720p 60hz for reference. xScreen is sort of a hybrid between these and full screens to give the best of both worlds 👍
2) we honestly don’t know as we haven’t done it yet and COVID is obviously causing all sorts of delays. We are using only high quality air freight so it should be fairly quick.
3) 11.6 is obviously much bigger than the switch or steamdeck and we find it to be a great experience.
Have you tested the PS4 Slim's power consumption?
I have tested, Xbox SS max wattage 84w, PS4 slim went a little above 89w, but is depending on the games, i had Xbox SS running at 54 watts on some games. I have converted the xbox to run on 12v Battery with a solar system, its using between 5 to 7 amps depending on the game, i can use the console non stop from a 100 amp battery. PS4 cannot be converted as the power supply is more complicated with 3 pins instead of 2.
best Xbox Series S for low cost.
but Xbox Series X and PS5 Graphics same than Xbox Series S with low watts.
Quality best is Xbox series X and PS5.
Quality Good is Xbox Series S.
I don't Xbox Series X why? it look a bit almost same graphics. and 4K 120Fps when Games 4K but scaled to 2K. Buy Xbox Series S for saver Money.
but 512GB. Buy a HDD 1tb or SSD 1tb anywhere.
