    It is also important to check the spine on the input shift. I had to replace the flywheel and transmission input shaft on 2003.

      Sucks that your problem was the belt, I bet it felt weird looking at good flex plate thinking what went wrong, at least you had to remove the transmission to fix anyway.

    Hello. Thank you for this excellent & informative video. Would you please tell what symptoms prompted you to remove this transmission, and ultimately find the damaged teeth? Any idea what would cause the teeth to become damaged? I am about to attempt to perform the same R&R on my 2006 hybrid. I realized that there are differences between the 2005 and 2006, but I believe that this video will be a great help. Any answers to these question or advice would be greatly appreciated. The symptoms that I am experiencing are shuddering & pulsation under acceleration without any unusual noise. Please advise.

      So I’m my own opinion This is the smallest shaft with smallest grooves and therefore failing with time.
      These cars should be driven very gently when you stop and go cause the amount of torque I feel is excessive from the cvt plate to the shaft (purposely made that way)
      Now in your case a 2006 if my guess is correct you will have to replace the whole transmission since 2006-2009 the transmission fails rather than the plate because these transmissions you have to keep up with fluid change every 30 to 40k miles otherwise they will wear super fast and go out.

    I have a 2003 honda civic hybrid at 196k miles now. No transmission issues just IMA light from Im not going to invest the money on replacement hybrid battery. Has a code indicating catalytic converter is bad and hybrid battery codes.
    At this point just driving as A-B car 24-28 mpg in town. Used to get a real 44-46 mpg mainly highway from miles / gallons used from full tank to next fill up when hybrid battery worked.

    What were the symptoms, conditions, the car was having. Picked up 04 Civic Hybrid for $500 with only about 106,000 miles on it. It will move but has noisy slippage, engine revs, sounds metallic. Doubt its the startup clutch which is another common issue with these cars, which is an internal trans part. but doubt it with the considerable low mileage.
    What were your symptoms?

    I just bought a 2005 civic hybrid and its delayed or no movement especially when cold or go from like reverse to drive vice versa has
    delayed engagement. Also once it does move its like a large bang/thud or harsh engagement. After warming up seems to be better.

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  5 років тому +6

      Exactly how I posted the video
      Turn off IMA
      Remove air box
      Disconnect all sensors on transmission
      Drain fluid
      Remove fluid lines
      Loosen up all transmission 17mm bolts leave at least 2 bolts on Tranny holding it easy access ones.
      Remove subframe
      Support engine and place your transmission jack and secure it.
      Remove all 6 10mm bolt from cvt flywheel by rotating ur crank pulley with 19mm
      By the way they are torqued
      10ftlb
      Do not try to remove transmission without removing those 10mm bolts or else you will be stuck for a couple of hours scratching your head.
      Remove transmission support.
      Bring down transmission, remove and inspect flywheel and if the teeth are no longer there replace it and reinstall transmission and follow process backwards.
      By the way removing some of the 17mm by the firewall transmission bolts can be tricky so I suggest you have the longest 17mm combination wrench u find.
      Space is limited so you will have to get creative.
      Good luck with your project.

      @@kiloo0 there are two lines. There is one on the left and one to the right.
      We are going to call them driver side and passenger side so it doesn’t get you confused.
      So the passenger atf cooling line goes into a filter then from the filter into the passenger lower side of the radiator. The driver atf cooling line it’s a much shorter line that one goes from the transmission straight into the lower driver side of the radiator. Also at the brackets with the banjo bolts can only be placed one way you won’t be able to switch them out even if you wanted to at the transmission. At the radiator side the lines are secured with pressure clips. I hope that helps.

    If the input shaft gets no rotation, its most likely the broken flexplate splines.
    the oring disappears, the grease is washed out and the splines rust and grind out.
    if you have input shaft movement that coincides with the engine speed, but the car won't go. the its internal issue with the CVT.

    I’m in need of help, i’m a technician but i have never touched a honda IMA drivetrain system outside of knowing basic service and hot to shut the hybrid system down for major repair. I have a 2006 civic hybrid 1.3L CVT. When it goes into gear, it has this horrible metallic like sound that gets faster with speed, but when neutral or park, it’s gone. Can you help me with a good point to start diagnosis?

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  Рік тому

      Rick Moises, when these transmissions start to whine most of the time is the metal band. Could be for many reasons, most common reason is final drive is chipped somewhere. If you drained the fluid and didn’t see any chunks of metal yet you could also remove the axles and remove the seals where the axles joint and most likely chunks of metal gear will be present.
      Once the transmission is whining and not moving is done!!
      And yes when in park or neutral the noise goes away.

      The easiest way is to type in 2003-2005 cvt flywheel/flex plate 1.3L.
      Honestly I’ve seen some on eBay but the price is ridiculous anywhere from $200 up to $400
      U can find it on Facebook market, Craigslist or offer up.
      I got mine for $100
      As long as ur car has the 1.3 and the donor car is a 1.3 the flywheel should fit.
      Good luck, if you have any other questions let me know.
      By the way, if ur car is 2003 to 2005 99% sure is the plate.
      If ur car is 2006 and up to 2010 most likely is ur transmission, I just finished a 2006 and the plate was fine so I swapped the
      tranny too and works like a charm!!
      I bought the tranny for $250 with plate to give u an idea how cheap it is to by on apps.

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  5 років тому

      Eduardo Cuellar, my car did not have any codes.
      Your code is for one of the sensors the transmission has and sometimes they go bad but also when the transmission fluid is too old metal shavings start to build up on those sensors cause they are magnetic, so they will interfere with the signal.
      Take them out and clean them up, if u see a lot of metal shavings change the transmission fluid and it might work for a while but if the transmission has worn down too much you are gonna have to replace the transmission.
      In this case I think ur transmission is gonna be toast and not ur flywheel.
      What I’m saying is my car never gave me a code cause the transmission was working fine and the car didn’t sense a broken flywheel cause that is a mechanical part.
      Basically the engine was rotating the flywheel but the flange on the flywheel had no teeth therefore not engaging into the transmission shaft.
      Let me know if you have any more questions.

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  2 роки тому +2

      @tearsbeers that is a different issue you have. Honestly maybe you can still salvage your transmission.
      Most of the time when I get that specific issue I drain and fill the transmission with fresh cvt fluid from Honda along with the little bell looking external filter. About 3.5 quarts if you are doing the filter, 3.1 without filter but I strongly suggest filter. Also check your torque mount. That torque mount is the one in the middle bottom with 2 short 17mm held by a bracket to the transmission to the long single 17mm to the subframe.
      By doing those two things usually solves that vibration when pulling away from a stop now if you transmission already suffer damage will help it a 90% meaning you will feel a very light vibration but not bad at all.

    I have a code of p1571 and p1600 and Honda said they don’t see anything about the code and ask if they can check the transmission for some censor. I have ima light on my 2005 hybrid. So do you have any idea what could that be?

      1600 as to do with the battery in the back

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  5 років тому

      Noypi Boy, I think the problem is going to be your hybrid Battery.
      P1600 is for the IMA battery and the 1571 is for ur motor assist which is in between the engine and the transmission.
      It makes sense that is giving that code for incorrect torque since the battery is not working properly.
      I got my money on the battery. Let me know what happens!!

      @ Jay Ochoa. Sorry to hear that.
      When you drained the transmission fluid did you see any metal shavings or chunks of metal on the drain plug?
      Did you have check engine light with transmission codes or even flashing gear lights on the dash? How about when the car was on idle? Did you have clunking noises coming from the engine bay? All those things come into play. Mine didn’t have anything of the above. I hope you connected everything back together and refilled your transmission fluid as well.

    Any trick to get the bolt under the exhaust without having to drop the cat and exhaust?

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  4 роки тому

      Al H: If you are talking about the 17mm on the transmission up top. Yes you need a long 17mm wrench. You will have to place the 12 point end to the bolt and the other end sticking to the top of engine. you are going to grab another wrench and place the 12 point onto the open end of the wrench so you could have leverage and loosen it up. If not getting any loose instead of the second wrench for leverage grab a jack bar and set onto the open end of the wrench and try to push it loose or hammer the end of the bar. Its hard but doable. Better than dropping the exhaust. Good luck

    hello why was the reason you changed the Fly wheel

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  4 роки тому +1

      Fernando Gonzalez, the car would turn on normal, no check engine or any flashing lights on the gears. When changing from park to drive or reverse car wouldn’t move. Felt like when car is in neutral and you press gas but goes nowhere. So turned out to be the flywheel flange that was worn and the transmission shaft was floating around the flange gear. I hope that answers your question.

      Hi l Len, sorry for the late response.
