A note for anyone planning to do a Civic hybrid engine swap or similar: When you reconnect the 12V battery, there are a couple of "relearn" procedures you must perform on the car's computer. 1) Reset the MCM (IMA motor control module) and recharge the IMA battery, and 2) relearn the engine idle speed. Without doing these procedures, the car will idle poorly, it won't charge the battery during regenerative braking, and the charge/assist from the IMA motor will be out of sync with the gas engine. These procedures are covered in Episode 6 starting at 18:07 in the video.

Great message at the end and fantastic job saving a vehicle that needed it! I hope to find a CR-Z in this exact state one day and do the same swap. This is a good explanation of what I'm getting myself into.
hopefully one day I learn how to finesse electrical connectors the way you do. any plastic I touch turns to dust. makes DIY projects that much harder! Getting that new engine lowered in by yourself looked rough, great job.
I have some vehicle projects to tackle as well since NC is enforcing stay at home orders. Well done, looks extra complicated due to the electric assist part / IMA.

Good morning, ask about the PSV valve in a Honda hybrid, where is it located? My car is a Honda Civic 2005, automatic hybrid, 1.3 liter engine, greetings from Panama.
Did you remove the axle completely instead of hang it up on the strut? Why? My passenger side axle was hell to remove from the half shaft! Was yanking at it for days. Did the drivers side axle on an odyssey with fewer miles that came out like butter
Great Job! I admire the professionalism. Bravo. Sir, Is it possible to swap a Honda Civic Hybrid (2008) engine with a normal (non-hybrid) Honda Civic 2008 engine? Will there be any major tweeks to the vehicle's frame or body or seat mounts? Thanks in advanced.
Hi - I don't think this is possible. At least not easily. I think the biggest concern would be mounting the transmission to the new engine, as well as the wiring harness not being compatible with the new engine.
I haven't heard of anyone doing it. I think there would be a lot of complexities to overcome such as fitting up the IMA system to the crankshaft and also figuring out the wiring harness difference.
What a coincidence I just purchased a 2003 and a 2004 (1 manual 1 cvt) For a sum of 700. One has bad tranny only 119k mi (cvt). Other has clutch/ flywheel issues 229k miles. Edit: the 5spd one has no title but I will be purchasing another car to swap all the useful parts to.
Thanks for getting back. So how will I know that the if needs fluid my steering wheel is make some noise. Any other suggestions besides taking to a dealership. Thanks
When you said you had the same car, you meant you had a Honda Civic Hybrid? I ask because the non-hybrid models still used a hydraulic power steering system. I'm unsure of what would be the problem if an electric power steering system was making noise. I'd imagine it would have something to do with the electric motor in the steering rack, or excessive binding/resistance in a suspension or steering joint.
Great video. I have the same car but a 2003. I’m looking for the power steering reservoir to ad power steering fluid but I can’t seem to locate it if you could help out please thank you in advance.

Did the throw out bearing fix your transmission noise? Is the flywheel a dual mass flywheel? I enjoyed watching your video. I have a 2003 with a manual transmission and almost 200,000 miles. It has been a trouble free car. I did replace the battery pack at 140,000 miles.
It's a single mass flywheel and the throw out bearing fixed about half the noise. The transmission still has some whining in first and I can only assume it was run low on fluid at some point causing wear on those gears. Thanks for watching!

Hey bro I bought 2005 Honda Civic hybrid with 170,000 Miles on it. The previous owner told me that the car overheated. The head gasket was leaking and it was burning coolant and it mixing oil and coolant. So I used the head gasket sealer chemicals in your cooling system and apparently it worked. The transmissions was shuddering really bad but I changed the fluid and it fixed most of the issues. The car is running good but I need some help because when I connect the OBDII The intake temperature sensor shows me 126 Fahrenheit and the ambient temperature is 47. And my cars temp gauge always shows 2 bars even when it’s super cold I checked sensor and it’s giving good reading to ecm.

Hi! i need to replace the PCV valve in my Honda Civiv Hybrid 2005, is the same in your video, but i can´t find that valve in te engine, can you showme where is it please?..... thank you
How long did this take you? I have an 05 hybrid civic and we had a mechanic replace the motor with a used one that had 85k miles on it and the head gasket blew again after about 6 months
The only difference is 1) disabling the hybrid battery and the 12V engine battery 2) transferring the hybrid motor system from the old engine to the new engine. The CT200h's hybrid configuration is likely quite different than the Civic shown here, so you'll need to do research on that specific make/model before attempting any repair. I recommend getting the Toyota/Lexus factory service manual for that model.
If you have a manual transmission it should still run OK if you remove the IMA battery. You can't remove the IMA motor though because it's an integral part of the engine/transmission. I'm not sure how a CVT transmission would work if the IMA system is disabled.
Thanks. It was a full 6 days from start to finish. The factory service manual was practically useless, so I had to feel my way through the job which always makes it take way longer than it should.
can you walk me threw the steps I want to swap a ford fusion 2010 hyrbid engine they want to charge me 6 grand almost at ford for a hybrid swap and 4k at other shops... i know a swap is literally just pulling an engine and putting it into that one basically bolts and connecting properly can you give me step by step instructions? and when you do engine work should the 12v and the main hybrid battery be disconnected/ i would be willing to even pay a bit for really detailed instructions and steps and how much more complicating are they then a normal engine vs hybrid? why do mechanics charge so much more the engine i will be doing is an automatic transmission should the transmission also be changed with it/ is it easy to do that? or same steps or way more work
Buy the ford factory manual on the web. its a LOT more work than you imagine. ALWAYS shut down the main hybrid battery. It will kill you if you let it.
