Yep - in general, it’s about $10/person for our family to eat out and that’s sometimes without a drink, depends on if it’s fast food or table service. We have a family of seven so $10/meal at home is WAY better.
For the spaghetti meal I use the great value ground italian sausage (actually the hot sausage) gives the spaghetti such a better taste and it costs less than the ground beef in my opinion.. at my Walmart it's $3.98/lb
I love this video, I’m a visual person so it’s perfect. Please do more!! I have been struggling trying to find budget videos or content that is not canning!!
I live in Canada and prices for fast food is absolutely insane! A basic combo (burger, medium fries, medium drink) costs about $15. It's $30 for two people, if anybody gets anything extra at all It's $40-$50 just for 2 people.
Jen, I absolutely adore and have the utmost respect for everything you do. I feel like you are talking to me. I just would love to be your buddy!!!! Much 💕
These are great ideas! Making meals at home is so much cheaper than buying out. I always have extra meals on hand in the freezer for when we don't feel like cooking. I would love to collaborate on a video sometime to share with both of our audiences!
Lots of good ideas. Most people have carryover groceries from the previous week or things in the pantry they can grab from to make a meal work. I also noticed that you included the price of the meals for the entire items even though you didn’t necessary use the entire box of something per meal I.e. eggs, rice, pancake mix. So really these meals are cheaper Because you can get several meals out of some of these items! But I appreciate the simple and easy ideas. That’s how I prefer to cook these days. It helps keep the cost down when you use less ingredients and our schedule is so busy most nights I don’t have time for anything fancy! Thanks Jen!
Make orange chicken without frying it is as good! That's how I saved a lot of time and effort. I made them that way too and took 30 minutes to fry all the chicken then the chicken wasn't crispy so next time I made it without frying and as good and a little bit healthier too!
Having an ingredient on hand does not make the meal cost less. The cost of the item you have on hand still has to be counted. If you already have all the ingredients, it does not make the meal free.
I have made the sweet n sour chicken and instead of breading and frying chicken inused the tyson popcorn chicken for a shortcut and just made the sauce and tossed and it was so good that way might try that with your orange chicken recipe . Thanks for the good dinner ideas.
I've never heard of Mosh bars before, those look great! I've been doing Atkins bars for years, but want to get away from the chemicals they're made with. Love the format of this video, and the inspo to stop hitting drive-throughs!
All the recipes looks good, I am hungry now. 😋 If I am hungry in the morning, I normally eat a protein bar like Quest. I will try the Mosh bars since they are plant based. Thank you for the video.
$10 dinners sound great to me. My hubby and I live on an extremely extremely tight budget since his tractor trailer rollover accident and I'm looking at major surgery in the next few months. I have 2 fistulas that are connected to my bladder and bowel.
My little guy is so picky that no matter what I make I have to make stuff separately for him except for tacos because tacos are life. They have to be ground beef tacos, if I try to make chicken tacos. He riots. I appreciate the dinner inspiration the grocery store is getting out of control.
No, m'am I don't know anything about you, I do not know that you travel and are very busy. I AM interested though. I am a 74 year old new subscriber. I like your low budget recipes.
While I agree that it is good to "shop your pantry" instead of buying all the ingredients new for a recipe, I find it misleading to say that it costs less to make the recipe when you do this. Unless someone gave you those items for free, you paid money for them previously so it still cost you the same to make the recipe.
Yes, those things need to be figured in as well. And, if people don’t have things like garlic paste or ginger paste, offer ideas for substitutions. People don’t always know what to use instead.
Got happy when you posted. Yes we are so doing more affordable yet delicious dinner prices are so high. Thank you for sharing ideas always helpful. Hugs friend Elissa modesto cali @elissa_tc

It would be interesting to see the price increase if you tried to make the same recipes from a previous 5$ meals video !
We are just not eating out at all. I appreciate your budget meal ideas! ⭐
Thank you for sharing these! I hope to see more like these🤗

Brilliant tip about tossing spaghetti with sauce instead of oil. It's definitely a game changer.
Hey Jen, can you share a link/recipe for the sauce you made with that pork loin dinner? Looks delicious!

I'm new to your channel. Do you ever list the actual recipes? That would be great if you can. Thanks!
Yes! A recipe for the pork tenderloin sauce please! Looks delicious!
I second this! Looks delicious and easy and one pot!
Do you have a recipe for the pork tenderloin dish you made?
WOW those bars come out to $4.16 each! Is that right?? I just bought Larabar at grocery for $1 a bar and they are delicious
I love your wavy hair, Jen!!! Thanks for another great video!❤
Love the trader joes Orange chicken. It's a freezer staple for me

Drive thru prices are crazy! Loved this one.

That honey garlic pork - or whatever that was - reminded me of a fancy version of SOS 🤣
Brinner was always win growing up ❤

Off topic, but your wedding ring set is really pretty.
Love your channel and your recipes! Temu hesitate because things are cheap. Is it reliable?
You should try making spaghetti in the instant pot it save so many dishes lol

wishing you both a speedy recovery!

Can you post the ingredients/amounts for the honey garlic pork please?❤
I made homemade sweet and sour chicken once, and it took me and hour and a half just to do the prep work and frying the chicken 🥴 never again 🤣

BLTs are great with cheese on them.🥪
I love cheese on mine too!
I'm not sure how you can promote Temu products when the measurements are literally already coming off that measuring cup...Temu is a trash company.
There seems to be plenty of meals that can be prepared for $5.
I’m not saying it can’t be done, it certainly can but hard to make things from scratch on a weeknight every night after work.
❤

That spaghetti meal could also be served meatless. That would save a few bucks.

Using sea salt is healthy alternative to regular sodium salt
It’s no “healthier “ than regular salt. They have the same basic nutritional value and the amount of sodium by weight
