    Love the idea of this video. I just turned 64 and no longer working in the corporate world. I now make wreaths and such for a living and am usually elbow deep in glue. 😂. I had done exactly what you said, Maria, started to just put on a T-shirt and jeans because 1) I didn’t want to ruin my “good” clothes and 2) I have lost my sense of self with regard to fashion. I find it extremely true, and have always believed, that dressing well just makes you feel better about yourself and makes you more confident which triggers better output in everything you do. I also feel happier. I too had lost 60 lbs a few years ago and bought almost all new clothes. I’ve since gained back 10 lbs, which puts me in a size up 😢. I had to go buy new jeans!!!!! So now I’m back on track, thanks to you. I’m down 3 lbs this week and walking daily! I still have 30 more lbs to lose but will certainly get there. Again thank you for your incredible videos. I’m a life long fan!!! ❤

    Love the new video series; I will follow your advice and go through the clothes in my closet to see what I like, what I wear and what still fits. I've already created a file on my phone with selfies of outfits I've worn over the past year which will make it easier to see if I still like the outfit on me. I'm looking forward to the next video in this series. Thank you so much for this video!

    Good advice. I’ve lost weight too and have sold a lot of things but I’m trying to be careful about adding items to my wardrobe because I always seem to not like them after a few weeks and don’t really know why. I have a casual lifestyle but like to be more dressed up and I think make the mistake of buying too many going out stuff. Also I never have the right shoes as I have wide feet and not sure what to wear with what. I’m not good at taking selfies although I try. I sometimes think an outfit is ok when I look in the mirror but when my husband took photos of me on holiday in the outfit I thought it looked awful and immediately sold it. Will have to take time to analyse and plan instead of making do.

      @Mariafsadler  6 місяців тому

      Yes definitely try analysing l. If you have a casual lifestyle but like to be more dressed up perhaps look at fabrics that feel more luxurious or add a piece of jewellery or a scarf to your more casual pieces. See how you can adapt to give you that slightly more dressy feel.

    Most “capsule wardrobes” are such a big yawn: black trousers, jeans, black leather jacket and blazer, tee shirts. I don’t really wear any of those things, I hate wearing black for starters. Your capsules are always very personalized, varied and unique, and you respect women’s preferences. You also will include colors and patterns, without which I would die of boredom, most stylists seems anti-pattern these days, it’s a shame). At our age, say over 50, we know what suits us and what we don’t like, but many stylists still try to force us into a mold. Then, no matter how many times I tell a store stylist I won’t wear synthetic fibers, they still show me hundreds of polyester and acrylic things. Listening is a skill! I used to style for a department store, but for men. They’re easier, or were then, they didn’t seem to have many opinions, but just wanted someone to choose for them. (They came with the newly-purchased suit to me for “furnishings”, shirts, ties, etc., I loved it and they reported being very happy with what I selected, which made me happy. Often they were choosing the worst possible colors for their coloring, wrong size, outdated or weird styles, so in better ones, they naturally got compliments on their new looks).

      I think it’s a good idea to have a core of basics or foundation pieces in neutrals but it’s the colour and print if you like it that gives it personality and makes it unique to you 👍

    Hi Maria, I just wanted to share this with you, it’s regarding weight loss. I lost 50 lbs. over a few years, mostly by vigorous daily walking. I stopped for a year or so, from a combination of broken foot bones, then an unusual, extremely wet winter last year. I feel and look much fatter and I have gained a dress size. That isn’t surprising, but what is is that I haven’t gained even one pound of weight! I keep checking and checking, but it’s always about the same. My waist measurement is at least two inches bigger, but, if anything, my too-skinny parts: hips/bottom, legs and upper chest, are scrawnier than ever. I suppose the exercise was both reducing my body fat and increasing my muscle mass, which, of course, weighs a lot more than body fat does. I’m really surprised at what a difference the aerobic exercise makes in how I look and how clothes fit me! As soon as the weather allows, it’s back to my daily walks. I just thought you might find that interesting, and perhaps, useful, in your fitness/weight loss effort. We also have similar body types, rectangularish with fuller bust and skinny legs, but I’m only 5’4” tall. Age 64, California, where it’s too hot to walk in summer. Love your channel❤

    Can you hand wash wool scarves in cold water?

    • @Mariafsadler
      @Mariafsadler  6 місяців тому

      I put mine on the hand wash or cold program but I’d be careful with boiled wool. If it’s merino or cashmere yes I do 👍

    The most common female body shape, by far, is the pear, not the hourglass, few women actually have an hourglass shape. Of course, there are others, like my own now-rectangle, I was a “neat hourglass” shape in youth, but not since perimenopause. I researched the ideal female body shape throughout art history, and discovered that the ideal, or what was portrayed most often in idealized portraits and statues of goddesses, queens, etc., was a quite fleshy, big-hipped and -bottommed, very high- and small-breasted, pear shape. This shape would not be considered ideal these days at all, and “she” would be considered 20 lbs. or more overweight, out of proportion and botyom-heavy, and flat-chested, with breast above the natural point for even teens and young women. The point is that no one meets any ideal body shape without extensive surgery, and that can’t even do everything, like make one taller. Beauty ideals always change with location, culture and time, too. Since the 1940s or so, our Western ideals have been completely unrealistic and keep getting more so all the time. For example, those of “Victoria’s Angels” that I got so sick of hearing about by men when online dating (so many said this what what they were looking for!), don’t occur in the real world. Understanding one’s own body shape is extremely helpful for choosing and styling clothes, but should never be limiting. If I followed common Internet style advice, I would be wearing the least flattering clothes of all: tops and dresses that have extra width under an empire-waistline, straight, shapeless sheath dresses or big trapeze, or tent, style ones, or tunics/big, long shirts over skinnies. The problem is that most styling advice is given by very young, and very thin, teens or women who know only one body shape - their own! It takes training and experience to be a good stylist like Maria, and not insisting on what doesn’t make the client happy.

    • @Mariafsadler
      @Mariafsadler  6 місяців тому

      I think also most styling advice focuses on trying to force your body shape into something it isn’t rather than focusing on fit and what works for you. There is no perfect body shape because we all have different views and opinions so instead of trying to make us all hourglasses let’s dress the person! ❤️

    Life style has to come into consideration, you might like Princess Catherine’s style but some of her clothes at not suitable for the everyday women.

      Yes absolutely it’s key. Thats why there’s no point having dry clean pieces if you live gardening or spend time with grandchildren and sticky fingers 😬

    I think, Maria, that the term Capsule Wardrobe might be confusing to many us Americans. Here in the US, this means a quite limited number of items, perhaps ten, twelve or so, that can all, or nearly all, can be worn with each other and match. This is very limiting, too, and nearly impossible to achieve, unless the colors are monochromatic, or at most, two colors only. I have a huge wardrobe and love and wear everything in it, but there’s no way everything “goes with” or matches everything else. For me it’s a successful, well-loved, comfortable and wearable, wardrobe (and in my opinion, stylish), but it’s certainly not a “Capsule Wardrobe”. (For us Americans a closet is where we store clothes and accessories, and other things, a wardrobe is all the clothes and accessories we have, usually stored in that/those closet/closets. I know this is different than British usage, in which a “wardrobe” is often what we call a closet, whether built-in, as is most common here, or a removable unit, rack, shelves or cabinet).

      I think your are thinking about the 10 item wardrobe that Jennifer l Scott does .

    • @Mariafsadler
      @Mariafsadler  6 місяців тому

      Yes for me a capsule wardrobe is what the originator of the term - susie Faux - meant, a mix and match collection of pieces that work together not a restricted number of pieces and specific items 👍
