I don't think Mark Henry or Lesnar could have caught Vader in that type of scenario. Like Taker said, he'd do way more damage to himself trying to protect him. Also like the interviewer said, Vader falls on his head. Idk how Vader thought that was even possible unless he was asking all that as a rib.

In a weird way that finish idea was a compliment towards Taker because Vader thought Taker was fully capable to catch him in the tombstone mid air.

Vader in WWF was such a missed opportunity. I get it if Shawn didn't want to work with him but he would have made a great heel champion to drop it later to a babyface.
Problem was Shawn had Vince's ear and injuries were starting to creep up. But WWF pushing Vader full force...amazing what could have been.

I think the title change from HBK to Sid back to HBK between Sur Ser 96 and Royal Rumble 1997 was originally meant for Vader, the December 96 PPV was even named after Vader. But Shawn buried him to management and they went with Sid instead.

I think the final nail for Vader in WWF was that incident in when he attacked that talk show host for asking if wrestling was fake. Leon didn't take it too kindly and ended up in a little legal trouble for that. Vince probably didn't like the bad press that brought in for the company.

I rewatched 'Taker-Vader Rumble '97 not long ago, still enjoyed it. 'Taker did a kind of guillotine legdrop when Vader went down for the backdrop, a move I only remember seeing him do on Vader. 'Taker also did the powerslam counter to Vader's dive off the top rope, which looked pretty cool, I think Vader had been doing that counter since WCW. If you remember, Vader won that match with the Vader bomb (I think Paul Bearer, then managing Vader, hit 'Taker with the urn first), it was still pretty rare for 'Taker to get beaten and Vader really needed a big win, having lost so much through '96. The Final Four match was good too, I guess 'Taker got his revenge, eliminating Vader, though Vader looked strong in that match too.

Imagine if they had Vader go undefeated beat Shawn for the title. And have him face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 13 for the title as an undefeated champion. Vader should've and could've been that guy.

Visually, his idea was brilliant. It would have just taken someone with the strength of 2 Mark Henry's to pull it off.... Poor guy just didn't realize how much force he was talking about Taker being able to handle.

The HBK killing on Vader's career was so accurate. I remember when Vader started in with Gagne. Awesome talent & athletic and then the Japan stuff. He was like a human Godzilla, then WWE wants him to job to HBK after his brutal years... 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

You know i luv ya Mark. Been following your career since your Texas Red days. So that should tell you how long i've been invested. I've also been watching and a part of this business on the indy scene for the better part of 30yrs now. And i have to say everyone loves ribbing or telling jokes about Leon. However, i don't care for them. Because firstly it's not "kosher" to speak ill or make fun of the dead. Secondly, Leon was a Kodiak bear in that ring but moved like a guy half his size. Sure Shawn bitched because he was "stiff" with him. But you wrestle in Japan "strong style" where they are practically shooting on each other in there matches. And then come to the WWE and be asked to "tone it down" that's a bit much to ask someone. Also, i don't know of many gaijins that wrestled for UWFi and all the matches Leon had with Takada and other SERIOUS shoot wrestlers. Point is Leon was LEGIT tough in that ring no matter what anyone says about him. He will go down as one of THE BEST big men this industry has ever seen. Much the same can be said about Scott Bigelow. When him and Bam Bam won the IWGP tag belts i thought they were unstoppable. Even better than Tenta and Ottman as the Natural Disasters. The bottom line is Vader didn't belong in the WWE. He was completely misused and didn't fit in with that "softer style" of wrestling. He even talks about it in various shoot interviews he's done. On how he regrets signing with the company. He should have stayed in Japan that's where he belonged and had a TON of respect and quite the following fan wise. As he was just as big there as Undertaker was in the states. So people need to stop with the stinky ring gear and gullible Vader stories & jokes. The man was college educated and wasn't stupid in the slightest. Let the man RIP Mark...(g)
