Ironically the Goldust gimmick was mainly done to save his career, since he absolutely needed to step away from the Rhodes family name and from Dusty's shadow (even more so since the two weren't talking anymore at that time). He needed to be more than just Dusty's son, so that's why Goldust was a blessing, it saved his career in more ways than one.

This is not even a question. The guy wrestled across 5 decades, was Attitude before the era was even a thing, got a mysterious gimmick over that ever should've worked, solid technical worker who only got better with age and peaked in his late 40's to early 50's, 3x IC Champion, Hardcore Champion, multiple time tag team champion, US Champion in WCW, was a main eventer in 1996, has the family lineage and pedigree, and has a great redemption story (severe drug addiction, 14 surgeries, to getting clean, losing about 60 lbs, and having a great final run. Absolutely no question. If there was a Mt Rushmore of guys to never win the WWE Title, Goldust is on it. It should've happened this year, in Hollywood, with Cody in the main event, shortly after Dustin's mother passed away and after he announced his retirement within a year.

Hall of famers should be unanimously undeniable like Rock and Austin, not people who just happened to hang around the mid card for a long time with a few one off good feuds that are bound to happen with such longevity. There's less than 10 Rock and Austin tier guys in the history of this business. There's over a thousand Goldusts. But the HoF has an obscenely low bar so he'll easily get in.

I’m convinced Dustin Rhodes is the most underrated professional wrestler of all time! The absolute level of respect that literally everyone in the business has for him is insane!! He’s moving better than most young guys when he’s into his 50s!! He’s also a phenomenal storyteller and seller!! If you read his book you see how much pride he takes in making every match as absolutely realistic as possible! He’s also shown to be able to make pretty much any gimmick or story (no matter how awful) as entertaining as possible!! He’s also just a stand up and likable guy! I firmly believe Goldust should’ve been world champion around his initial run. He had so much heat and was oddly creepy and sinister when he wanted to be. Even if it was short, a world title run with him would’ve had some great stories!! Hopefully AEW gives him something good before he retires!

Because the type of things he did/said during that time was completely unheard of AND uncalled for, but they still ran with it regardless of the surrounding controversy & backlash it got from pissed-off parents, religious groups, etc! Sure, there was already the likes of Gorgeous George, Exotic Adrian Street & Adorable Adrian Adonis before him as far as the androgynous, flamboyant wrestling characters go ... but GOLDUST took that concept and took it beyond extreme measures that no one could've possibly imagined at the time! 👑

Dustin deserves to be in the hall of fame just for his service to wrestling alone. He's always been a good worker in the ring and he took that goldust character and ran with it at a time when a lot of people didn't really seem comfortable with it and he himself it took a bit of time for him to really lean into the character more because it was something totally different and way outside his wheelhouse and it ended up becoming one of the more memorable characters in WWE history because of Dustin as a performer. Even today at 54 years old he still looks pretty good in the ring when he does wrestle and he's proof you can have a long successful career in the business even without ever being the top guy in a company

He played that character so well that in 1995 or 1996 he was on Conan O’Brien during prime Jay Leno. O’Brien followed Leno. During the attitude era, he was just underneath Austin, Rock, DX, Taker, and Mankind. They’re all in the HOF. Why not Goldust?
Also, Jim Johnston is the most under-appreciated man in the history of wrestling. He composed the walkout music of (just off the top of my head): Stone Cold,, Taker, Mankind, Goldust, The Rock, HBK, and likely enough to fill up more space than this novel of a comment did. He had a consistently phenomenal way of creating the mood of the character through music that very often had no lyrics. Both are geniuses for what they did to make Goldust an icon of the sport

And YES ... Jim Johnston (who also deserves a HOF induction, no doubt!) also composed the themes for several other legends, whos theme fit their entrances & character PERFECTLY ... like Mr. Perfect's "PERFECTION" theme, Ultimate Warrior's "UNSTABLE" theme, Razor Ramon's "BAD BOY" theme, and of course, Stone Cold's "GLASS SHATTERS" theme! 💀 During the Ruthless Aggression era, he did some of his BEST work ever imo, composing the entrance themes for Muhammad Hassan, Nathan Jones, and the Great Khali's OG heel theme!
