Thanks for your suggestions for improvements to the Ultra. I wanted one and still do. But, like your wife, the case is just too big for my wrists. Plus I would love the extended range and battery life. Apple really needs to correct this. Great video!
I got my Apple Watch Ultra at launch. Zero precautions taken and I’ve scraped it against walls, brick, and even metal railing many times. Zero scratches on the screen (even under sunlight), a few fine scratches on the bezel and case that you can only see in light when there was heavy impact. No case deformation. Extremely durable! My old Apple Watches were always dinged up and super scratched with deep gouges by a year, as is my iPhone screen.
I got an ultra a few months ago because my older Apple Watch ran out of battery. First. I am old. The size of the screen is fantastic for me. I really have no use for the action button and turned it off because I frequently press it by accident. Like you I, even though I also have the latest regular Apple Watch I end up wearing this even when I go out. Thanks for the review. I love my ultra.
i had it (bought it at launch) but i returned it exactly because of the negatives you just mentioned. the lack of a proper titaniumband and the bulk especially while sleep tracking. it is like a brick if you are sleeping. the ultra with the titanium band looks insanely good on your wrist sir!
8:26 Your scratched metal watch bands can relatively easily be returned to mint condition, usually in 5 minutes or so by hand only. Look for a set of three or four small, flexible, graded abrasive pads specifically made to remove scratches and return an original brushed finish to stainless steel. One set can last you many years! eg: search the usual places for the phrase: Stainless Steel Polishing Pads for a Brushed Finish on Watch Cases and Bracelets
My Ultra is scratch free and still has 100% battery life after getting it at launch. I love it, will definitely be getting the 3rd generation version when it drops.
@@thadlogan51 Fenix is a fitness tracker with the most basic smart watch features, you're legitimately r-word if you think it beats an AW on features, and it's even more expensive.
I came from an se gen 1. Just upgraded to the ultra 2. Good to know your in construction and didn’t have issues with durability. I’m in construction and this was the main reason I got the ultra 2. Was contemplating on a screen protector that also protects the bezel. Good to know I should be ok!
Who said you shouldn’t swim in salt water with AWU? Don’t listen to these people lmao… Apple literally advertises this thing to be great surfing / diving companion, which happens most often in salt water. They even have an OCEAN BAND, not a lake / river band.
Disagree unfortunately about 2 items: - action button super useful for cycling , just hit it and ride, capture the commute - on exercise app, WorkOutDoors it can become a lap button during exercise - about width/weight - yes heavier - but because it’s wider - it’s pressure per surface area is lower than a usual Apple Watch, and hence much easier to wear during sleep
I too absolutely LOVE my Ultra! I use the programmable button to trigger a 45-second timer between sets at the gym. It's a very simple use, but I find it surprisingly helpful.
Love the orange button for the flashlight - so many times I just need to select a door key from my keychain and see the lock from my darkened house or car door - and there it is, on my wrist of all places. I use it a ton.
for those of you having trouble with comfort using it for sleep tracking, try wearing the watch on the inside of your wrist (on the spot people usually slash their wrists to kill themselves in movies). It totally fixed the comfort issue for me and I use it for sleep tracking every night without issue
Pretty much agree with all the points. I think the size/weight is the biggest issue I have. It is def the max size a watch could look good on my wrist and it can get uncomfortable from time to time based on what band I am wearing. On the flip side having it be able to power through runs without my phone and still have battery life left over trumps everything else.
I’m curious if the cellular connectivity is at least as good as the iPhone. What I’m asking is if you were to replace your phone with this watch would the cell service be sub par compared to the iPhone ?
Another good video and review but I take exception to you listing the action button as a negative. I don't see how this is a negative just because you don't use it. It could just as easily been a positive.
After switching from Garmin to Apple due to the resilience promised by the Apple Watch Ultra, I encountered a disappointing issue with the heart rate sensor malfunctioning just a few months post the expiration of its standard warranty. This problem is particularly concerning given the watch's marketing as a durable device for intensive outdoor activities. I had anticipated that the Apple Watch Ultra would offer unmatched reliability for my needs, and this experience has led me to reassess my expectations from Apple. I am now reaching out to Apple Support in hopes of finding a resolution to this issue, despite the warranty period having ended, expecting that the quality and customer service associated with Apple will provide a satisfactory resolution.
After nearly 6 years of having Android phones, I switched back to Apple with 14 PM and AWU back in April. I sleep with my AWU every night, except when I was in the hospital by in May.
Good things - I agree with 2, 3, 5, 6 for the positives. I agree with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 for the negatives. Still hoping for the day we don’t need the charger to update. I personally would say look at the use case unless you are buying it just as a watch.
Bought it in January. it’s been a great experience & watch. Very durable & love the battery. I get 2-3 days w/ good use. My wife gets 1 day on her Series 7
Apple Watch Ultra is currently the best smart watch on the market right now. I got the GWC6 for my S23U and even that doesn’t touch it. I have a Garmin Fenix 6 Solar, however it doesn’t do half the stuff my Apple Watch can do outside of fitness.
I’ve had Apple Watch for a good few years now and really enjoyed it, decided to buy the ultra earlier this year and I’m surprised by how much I love it, I was worried about size and weight, first time I tried on on, I realised it felt way better than I imagined, works great for me You guys continually put out fabulous content by the way, really enjoy the channel
Why are people always trying to fine fault with this watch, leave it alone its perfect. I don't have to charge it for days . I bought an apple watch ultra 2 and i am a regular swimmer, i would like to ask what is the long term impact on swimming with apple watch ultra? Previously i had two SE watch that show issues like battery draining and watchOS cant reboot after regular swimming. Thanks in advance!
I bought my Apple Watch Ultra back in January as a used like new model from Best Buy for about $600. I was worried about the size but I got use to it fairly quickly and love it now. Battery health is at 100%, no scratches or dings, it looks perfect. My only gripe is the battery life I’m getting isn’t as good as others I’ve seen where they’re getting up to 3 days on a single charge. Best I can get is barely more than 2 days and sometimes not even that. I’m not a heavy user. The main things I use my watch for is to check my blood sugar readings but it’s linked to my calendar app and shows up on my watch face and I use Apple Pay, that’s really about it. I can’t really see what apps are draining the battery so not sure how to fix it.
I’d check background refreshes, as well as making sure your phone has a good signal. If all of the normal drains have been checked try repairing your watch with your phone.
As much as I would like to upgrade to the ultra from a series 7 because it’s been catching my eye as of lately, I think I’d be better off saving those few hundred bucks towards this year’s new iPhone since i have the xs max
Ive been using Apple Watch ultra since its release and honestly it’s been a blast. @@PatriotSteve Well it’s not really as big as I thought. But, in hindsight, I believe that the Ultra 2 is no less of a spec bump than the iPhone 15 Pro. More exciting for the Watch than expected; rather underwhelming for the iPhone…
Your watch band is scratched because it's either not real titanium or a very low grade. I got a grade 4 Ti band from Sandmarc over a year ago and it's still pristine. Yes it was pricey but it looks and feels the part and durability has proven to be on point as well.
Prior to my Apple Watch Ultra I had always bought the aluminum version and now that I have had TITANIUM there is no going back 😮💨 I’ve have hit this watch soo much and it still looks perfect. I can’t believe it 😅 the weight of this at first was really difficult to get use to and I wasn’t sure I’d keep it but the battery life is the main reason I got it and it hasn’t disappointed me
Let’s be honest folks, this watch is for outdoor enthusiasts/ ultra runners. With all do respect this is the whole reason why apple is slow to get into that niche market, because somehow people think this it was made to be an everyday Apple Watch. This watch was to compete with Garmin and the like.
Nomad makes a titanium band for the Ultra which doesn't scratch. I've been wearing the Ultra and Nomad band since launch and both still look brand new! The only downside is that the Nomad band costs $300. But I think it is worth it.

Your watch band is scratched because it's either not real titanium or a very low grade. I got a grade 4 Ti band from Sandmarc over a year ago and it's still pristine. Yes it was pricey but it looks and feels the part and durability has proven to be on point as well.
Is there any wear on the glossy part surrounding the screen? I have too
Prior to my Apple Watch Ultra I had always bought the aluminum version and now that I have had TITANIUM there is no going back 😮💨 I’ve have hit this watch soo much and it still looks perfect. I can’t believe it 😅 the weight of this at first was really difficult to get use to and I wasn’t sure I’d keep it but the battery life is the main reason I got it and it hasn’t disappointed me
Agreed. I’m in the exact same boat
Let’s be honest folks, this watch is for outdoor enthusiasts/ ultra runners. With all do respect this is the whole reason why apple is slow to get into that niche market, because somehow people think this it was made to be an everyday Apple Watch. This watch was to compete with Garmin and the like.
For me too big and too heavy for my hand... maybe an ultra mini?
I see you sporting the Nomad Sports Band. So far I have the black and ash green. I’m going to get one more, the Ultra Orange and that’s a wrap.
which titanium band is it?
Nomad makes a titanium band for the Ultra which doesn't scratch. I've been wearing the Ultra and Nomad band since launch and both still look brand new! The only downside is that the Nomad band costs $300. But I think it is worth it.
You forgot the price.
where can i get the titanium band?
I don't use it anyway but I love the tech Apple jammed into it
