  • A news update airing during coverage of the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, on CBS O&O KCBS-TV (channel 2) in Los Angeles, CA. This was the second-to-last time CBS aired the Olympics.
Bree Walker and Michael Tuck anchor the news. They briefly run down stories on Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan, plus a teaser on David Letterman's early days as an Indiana weatherman. Watch parties all over the country were cheering on the two skaters, who were under scrutiny for an attack Harding's ex carried out on Kerrigan.
I uploaded this separately since it was considered a newscast, if abridged. This was during the period where KCBS began toning down its news format, which at the time was going tabloid; they had just fired ND John Lippman in 1993 and replaced him with Bill Applegate. Ironically, Applegate's work at sister station WBBM in Chicago was all tabloid, but he promised to tone it down in Los Angeles.
Nick Michaels voices the update bump, while the sponsor plug is voiced by Lisa Malay. KCBS used a glitzier version of its 1990 theme music for the tabloid format; the original cuts from 1990 were also used by WTEN in my hometown of Albany, as well as KRQE when it got its new call letters.
