When I visited Hong Kong and Beijing a few years back I put my earphones in and listened to this on repeat. Also went back and saw Guilin last year and listened to the forest themes. So great to live a breathe Shenmue in real life and see just how authentic Yu's creation is.
So sad that we don't live in the 80s which were for sure fantastic. Also used to own an very expensive book from Hong Kong which lot of photos from that time, but many things changed since then
Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 are in my opinion the best creations ever made and to me they aren't just games,they are exploring and living the culture of Japan and China in an interactive amazing piece of art.Its interesting how I came upon these games when I was only 11 and I was visiting my dad for the summer and he had a dreamcast at his place and these random games a buddy of his burned for him and one of them was Shenmue 1.When I started playing it I couldn't stop and I fell in love with it instantly and when my dad went to work I played and played it everyday until he would come home.Then a few days later his friend burned Shenmue 2 and I got addicted to that one as well.I love the memories I have with these games and the gorgeous peaceful music in them makes them even more special to me.
I remember seeing the trailer (shenmue 1) on a demo disc and being blown away! then gettin shenmue 2 for xmas and it being subtitled. thank god for the xbox version of shenmue 2 being in english with Ryo's classic voice. "lucky hit"
I feel the same, I was about the same age and I always played it when i visited my dad in the weekends.. I couldn't read and understand english that well but somehow I still managed and understood the plot. I was absolutely mesmerized by this game and how you could interact with everything, and just looking at stuff and talking to people was interesting. It's a fucking masterpiece.

10 years ago, as a ten year old lil brat. I played this game everyday, always being clueless of what I had to do next. Due my lack of understanding english. But....I really cherish those days. Took me a year and a half of nonstop playing to beat the game. Lol.

How? It seems extremely difficult to run Shenmue 2 without errors (I seem to have an unfixable error that causes it to crash at random moments) Been trying to sort it for over a week with no luck. Thinking of just getting a Dreamcast off Amazon or something

Shenmue 2 was a huge game, especially considering it's from the early 2000's.
It still is. Because of the details and immersive experience you can have while playing, which none of the games have after it
