My driveway is 1/5 of a mile long and I always wanted to put a loop in my driveway, so I know when someone is out on my drive. Motion defectors pick up the cars but also all of the cats, dogs and deer. Don't forget to leave a note for the next guy that there is a loop card in the rack that has a bad channel.
Hello from south east Australia. Congratulations on a well deserved award. Your content is educational and entertaining, and it's fascinating finding out how traffic control works. Something I have noticed about the control boxes you work on, the distinct lack of graffiti. In most parts of Australia I have seen, the boxes are either tagged, or turned into murals by clubs or schools, or both.
Could you comment in videos about the new feature seen here in Maine... The flashing yellow (amber) 🟡 left turn arrow (LTA)for left turn lane versus waiting for the red LTA to turn green. This feature saves gas and frustration especially at night with low traffic. Thanks and🎉on 100k.
Is the FYA "new" in Maine? I could swear I first saw these in 2011. I knew they were being implemented under Interim Approval as early as 2007 (possibly earlier?). It was one of the big heavy-hitting updates in the 2009 MUTCD (which itself is now out of date as of last January 🙃).
I'm a new subscriber who literally fell onto your channel. Very interesting to watch. Why Green beacon lights on your Ute and not Amber? They do look good. In NZ green is to be used in an emergency on a Doctors car.
That seems like a really odd, even irresponsible place to put a traffic signal cabinet. If someone on Jim Ramsay Road doesn't stop or swerve, he'll smack right into it!
at a gated community i frequented as a delivery driver, there was a loop on the exit side so that vehicles could leave without needing to card again; it was sensitive enough / small enough i could trigger it with my tire iron.
Congrats on your silver play button, new sub here and enjoying learning how traffic lights work. I’m not going to become a tech but I love learning how things work.
Likely has been answered before but...do you cover a wide area and several cities or do these intersections just have a lot of issues? I rarely see our city working on signals in my town so the fact that you have so much content makes me think you're likely covering a large area. I'm not sure why this fascinates me so much but I'm hooked!
I hate the signal loops. That's how all in city of Phoenix does. Timed lights with loop detection (cut. Squares, not those weird round Cali loops.) so lights in Phoenix you see the walk signal go to hand flashing and count down the timer is hit and if there is no cross traffic, then it goes back to walk and waits for timer again. until a car does show up, then the countdown starts and then that traffic turns yellow/red and other direction green finally. I hate that!!! When your out at an odd hour and the times still same as rush hour, you are sitting on a side road with no traffic on the road and you have to wait what seems like an eternity at 3.am, lol. And if you say f-#: it and run the light, you know a cop is stirring on the corner that you can't see just watching and waiting for someone to run it! Lol City I'm living in now, Peoria, it's ones of the boarder cities of Phoenix, they use all radar, loops, and cameras. So if a dust storm comes in or flash flood (dust storms to where you can't see your hand in front of you, (scary stuff,!!!!!) and blinds the radar and camera, the. Loops still work until cleaned up or until the dust or rain has stopped. But they also change lights based on actual traffic use a dynamicly learn and change lights and protected arrows out of turn if no other traffic and no need to change anything else and give it a green arrow. I love it. Because if you get stuck at a red light, it's super quick!! Where Phoenix, everyone guns it a yellow light because they will be stopped for about 5 minutes minimum.

Consider this for next time. Pull the card and return it to the same slot. It may just need to reboot and establish connection with the controller. You may not need to swap it and think it’s an issue.
Probably it's easier to service if the box isn't blocking your view of the intersection. He's blocked the road shoulder with his truck and he's on the sidewalk
@@jovetj Signal box is directly in front of the power pole that feeds it. (edit: check out, I dunno, 3:53 and 0:14) ok but why would you put it right in front of the pole? Minimizes the length of 4ft trench you have to dig for the buried service lateral ok but why did they put the power pole right at the T of the intersection? They didn't, they put it on the southeast corner and balanced the two poles either side ok but why is the pole straight in front of the right-turn lane on Jim Ramsay Rd? The pole was there first, the turn lane was added later ok but why did someone design a turn lane aimed straight at a signals cabinet and power pole? meh, you're not going to divert into the marked right-turn lane then not turn right. Or if you do, the 1ft high concrete plinth around the signals cabinet will remind you
@@markauder I think you missed my point. For one thing, the signal cabinet is at the apex of the thru/LEFT turn lane. Someone slowing down and stopping to turn isn't the problem... someone inevitably NOT slowing down is the problem. A vehicle hitting that cabinet at 50 MPH is going to destroy it, plinth or not. Though I don't like where the pole is either, that's not what my comment was about. The signal cabinet is a lot more expensive to replace than that pole, though the pole is probably more dangerous should it be struck.
@@jovetj I understand your point now! I thought your question was, why did they put the signal box where they put it? Anyway... the center lanes of Jim Ramsay Rd align with the service road next to the pole/cabinet. So if I have your question right, the answer is they don't have the signal box right at the T of the intersection, and someone not stopping will not strike it. I've got some bittersweet news though... they're spending $200M to realign SR 57, widen to 4 lanes, put in a grade-separated 65mph interchange with Jim Ramsay Rd... and also keeping the old alignment so 4 years from now that signals cabinet will still be right where it is

I believe there are motion detectors that work for vehicles only.
I love that you put your play button behind the equipment in the cabinet. Great touch, and, GG.
Do you leave a note in the box that phase 3 does not work on that card? Just wondering if you all have some kind of work log...
I have no clue what I'm learning, but, that's technology, and I like watching people teach me about it. 🤣

That's not a loop problem. It's a programming issue.
Amen brother
You could have had a great video on that broken signal in Brookhaven!!
That is a simple looking traffic light control box
Is there a trend for intersections to use cameras instead of inductive loops to detect traffic?
Dunno, but I prefer loops. Simple and not affected by light issues, etc.
The EDI amps tend to do that frequently. we prefer the reno cards
Congratulations on 100,000 from North Carolina
Inductive loops are so much better than cameras
They don’t work for motorcycles or bicycles.

Loops for the win. 👍
Radar > Loops
Awesome 👍😎
What do the little pie charts on the cards mean? Can you explain a little about what it says on the small screen for the inductive loop card?
Congratulations 🎉🍾
Why do so many intersections not use inductive loops anymore? Seems way more reliable then the cameras.
Because the various types of bikers throw hissy fits when they are forced to wait for a car to trigger the light to turn green.
Picked me up me as a sub today! I was also born in Springfield at Cox medical center!
