    The amount of knowledge, skill, and experience displayed in so many of these videos impresses the hell out of me. I just got recommended one of your videos for some reason and I've completely fallen down the rabbit hole. I think I've watched 10 so far tonight.
    I worked in the software development side of industrial automation decades ago, so a lot of the terminology is familiar. It's really cool to see the practical application of some of the software I contributed to and how it has evolved from the old days.

    when I was a kid back in the 60's the Traffic control boxes used mechanical relays and timers. and I remember going into town for eve walks with my parents. and while waiting for the crosswalk light to change, I would always put my ear to the control box and hear clink clink clunk clack clank noises from inside. always wanted see inside of one of those control boxes when I was a kid, but now I get to see inside of the modern electronically controlled ones, in your video Thanks!

    I wish I had access to these type of videos when I was a kid, back in the 90's. I was fascinated with how the signals worked, but could not find info on the systems in the early days of the internet. Learning about how the induction loops worked and the LED replacement issues (Green was not reliable when they started doing it, so they still used the yellow/blue trick) when they were the brand new thing on traffic signals is what got me into Electrical Engineering.
    Keep up the videos, don't get burned out!

    Hey man! Love your videos! So, the Polara buttons automatically adjust the volume with ambient noise from a built-in microphone. You can disable this via the app, but it is a pretty nice option if there is loud traffic or noise around. I've had a little fun yelling at the buttons and they start practically blaring out the commands lol. Just thought I would throw that out there!

    I wish you would come to Schyulkill County PA and do our traffic lights. We'd do better with a traffic cop and whistle than what we have now. We're given grant sfor millions of dollars to revamp intersections and they basically just re-pave the road and paint new traffic patterns. It's quite disconcerting.

    One thing I'd like to see and you may have covered this on a previous video but I am a fairly new subscriber to your channel, is how do they figure out the timing of satellites for example there's some intersections I go through where I live where they have a dedicated left turn lane and a traffic signal that indicates that but it's like way too short timing wise in terms of you can maybe get one or two cars through and then the light is already turning The left turn lane off, and also how does that work with the controller when you have like a dedicated turn lane but you also have opposing traffic

    • @Liam_Wa
      @Liam_Wa 3 місяці тому

      I’ve programmed a few intersections the all red time is usually 1-2 seconds. I’ve heard about some places with Red Light runners extending the time to 5-6 seconds. The timing is set in the controller under “Red Clearance”. What part of the states has this long of timing?

      @@superdad2150 Safety! If anything is near the road it’s designed to be ran into in the case of an accident. Road barriers break so that all the energy from the car is absorbed into a barrier or in this case the cabinet before a person in the car does. Adding a concrete barrier may protect the cabinet, but it comes at the cost of putting lives at risk.

We're dealing with alot of ADA compliancy right now and many times I'm making sure buttons are mounted on the same side of walkways. If a person was in a wheelchair, they would have had to go around the other side of the pole to hit the button and then come back around to enter the walkway....Anyway, great videos TLD! One thing that does interest me, is as a ISP/Network provider.
    We can do 90% of our jobs remotely.
    Now I know that is not a valid item for you.... but, shouldn't all those systems have a central control ability?
    I think you have reporting - but not management.
    Because the likes of changing the beeps to countdown, aligning the cameras .... like that could be done remotely
    Any ideas why not?

  • @NLind
    @NLind 3 місяці тому

    I didn’t realize those pedestrian buttons could do an audible voice countdown. The ones around me in Rochester Mn. either say “(street name). Walk Sign is on to cross (street name)” like 8:03 or create the “machine gun” sound effect.

  • @superdad2150

    As a career of electrician, I think it wasn't a good choice that you actually were physically touching all of the lugs in the meter pan even though you know the power is off if not most electricians always treat everything as if it is hot but a curious homeowner will not go in their own meter and go start touching stuff and end up getting killed because they saw you touching it on your video.....
